JUNIOR LADY LYNX COMPETE AT WALLKILL COLLEGE SHOWCASE

The Toronto Lady Lynx U18 team had a terrific weekend at the prestigious Wallkill College Showcase in early November, just outside Newburgh, New York. Performing in front of dozens of US College and University coaches, the Lady Lynx drew a very tough opening match and came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 score. But they settled down and played strong soccer the rest of the weekend, drawing a lot of interest from the scouts on hand. Saturday afternoon they won4-1, and then Sunday they had a 0-0 ties and a 1-0 victory.

The Junior Lady Lynx Academy also entered a younger team in the Walkill Rising Stars Tournament played on the same weekend. With a number of new and relatively younger players in the lineup of our U16 team, they competed very well in the U17 Premier division. Over four games, they gave up only two goals, both of them on very questionable penalty calls, and they were undefeated. But three ties and a 4-0 win were not quite enough to win top spot in their grouping and a chance to play in the championship game.

On the whole, it was a tremendous weekend for both girls teams in their first appearance at this major showcase event for northeastern U.S. schools, and we’ll look forward to returning next November.
