EYH Squirt Selects Win The Jr. Americans Desert Classic
![]() |
Kennewick, WA – The EYH Squirt Selects brought heat to the desert over the weekend, making a statement that they are a force to be reckoned with. After most of the day traveling to Kennewick, WA the team found themselves looking at this tournament square in the eyes against the TCAHA Rep Team. Game 1 was a true test to the team to see if the team could travel and go the distance on the ice. The team was a little sluggish to start the tournament, but pulled together showing their strength with power forwards and a shutdown style defense posting a 7 - 4 win lead by #12 Braden O’Brien with (2g), followed by #7 Easton Thomas with (1g, 2a) and Garner Christensen stopping 10 of 14 shots on goal.
The next day of the tournament there was more of the same as the team picked up momentum shutting down the opponents, posting a 12-0 shutout lead by Easton Thomas (4g, 3a) and #4 Cameron Ford (3g, 3a). Later that afternoon the Selects would go take the ice posting yet another shut out in Game #3 with leading scorer Easton Thomas who would light the lamp with (5g, 2a) followed by #10 Liam Myers with (2g). This promised the Squirt Selects the #1 seed going in to the semi-finals.
Sunday morning was a must win to move on and the team did not disappoint as they shredded the ice posting a 10-2 win over their opponent and sending the team on the hunt for a banner. The Championship game was one the team did not take for granted as the Jr. Americans struck first to make it a 1-0 game putting pressure on the EYH Selects. Once again the team would pull together with #16 Caden Pattison finding the net to tie the game at the end of the first period. In the second period the Selects would get things rolling when #12 Braden O’Brien scored a shorthanded brake away goal to break the tie, changing the momentum as #7 Easton Thomas and #16 Caden Pattison who would tack on one goal each. This boosted the team to play their style of game as the team’s defense could not be penetrated. The selects would enter the 3rd period with a 4-1 lead and would net one more goal by #15 Conner Goodridge to seal the deal.
The defense consisted of #6 Mathew Klemm (4a), #9 Nikolia Gusinsky (3g, 4a) #3 Marco Valenti (1a) and #11 Teddy Havener (2g, 2a) through 5 games. Goal tender Garner Christensen would leave the tournament head held high stopping 36 out of 43 shots on goal and 2 shut outs. Coach Kyle Klemm after the game said that he was extremely proud of the team and what they have all accomplished since the team was put together mid season “ This team comes out to play hockey and that’s what these boys love to do ”.
Congratulations to coaches Kyle Klemm & Bill Zielisky. Special thanks to Gary Gusinsky and Team Manager Sean O’Brien.

Fun at the Everett Youth Hockey Cross-ice Jamboree
![]() |
The Portland Junior Hawks Mites and Mini Mites joined the Everett Youth Hockey Mites and Mighty Mites for our first cross-ice jamboree on the Everett Silvertips ice. Following the USA Hockey American Development Model, nearly 70 players spent 3 hours playing in a total of 24 cross-ice games. There was a lot of hockey to watch with two simultaneous games occuring and other players warming up throughout the event. The games were fast moving with quick, 2 minute shifts and a lot of enthusiastic play. And just as importantly, the players were having FUN (judging from the smiles all around).
The players, families, and friends returned to the Comcast Arena that evening to enjoy watching the Everett Silvertips beat the Seattle Thunderbirds on the same ice that they had just hours earlier played on. A special thanks to Gary Gusinsky, Jud Doran, and all the parent volunteers and coaches that made this day of hockey a resounding sucess! Photo courtesy Gary AllenFriday, December 31
Everett Jr Silvertips Bantam Tier 2 team Turns in Strong Performance in Burnaby, BC Tournament
|
Burnaby, BC – The Everett Jr Silvertips Bantam Tier 2 team participated in the Canuck’s Place Charity Tournament in Burnaby, BC that was held over the holiday break from December 27-30, 2010. Not knowing where they stood competitively in relationship to their Canadian counterparts, the Jr Silvertips entered the tournament in the Tier 3 division hoping to be competitive and competitive they were.
They started the weekend with a 2-1 win over the Burnaby A3 team which featured goals from the teams leading scorer, John Greer and D-Man Ryan Jaromin, a strong performance by goaltender Jason Hadaller, who had 33 saves in the game and an assist from FW Ernie Yake.
Game two saw the Bantam Jr Tips settle with a 3-3 draw against a very good Surrey A3 team that would eventually play for the tournament championship. Goals were scored by FW’s Ernie Yake, Wade Wylie and Mike (MJ) Myers, with assists being supplied by D- Men Ryan Jaromin and Thomas Freeman as well as FW’s Myers and Wes Hartze (2A).
The Tips went into game 3 of round robin play with a share of the lead in their pool, needing a win against Campbell River of the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) to have a shot at winning their pool. With another strong performance by goaltender Hadaller (29 saves) and points by Yake (1g, 1a), Greer (1g,2a), center Stuart Terrell (1g,1a) and Jaromin(1a), the Jr Tips captured a 3-1 victory to put their record at the end of round robin play at 2-0-1. This put them in a tie for the pool lead with the Surrey A3 team by record and the pool winner was determined by a tiebreaker of lowest goals allowed, giving the Jr Tips the pool win having only allowed 5ga to Surrey’s 7ga.
The final day of the tournament saw the Jr Tips enter the final four playoff rounds facing eventual tournament winner Sunshine Coast A1. The pitched battle went down to the final minute of play when Sunshine Coast won the draw to the point in the Everett zone and buried a one-timer in the back of the net off Hadaller’s(38saves) glove, giving the Sunshine coast team a 5-4 win and a berth in the Gold Medal game. The Jr Tips were outshot 43-18. John Greer logged a hat trick in the game and Wylie added a goal as well. Assists were provided by Yake, Jaromin and Terrell (2a).
|The Jr Tips found themselves in the Bronze medal game facing a very strong Whistler A1 opponent who had out scored there pool competition averaging over 8.5 goals/game and only allowing .5gaa in pool play but had lost in their final four placement game to the Surrey A3 team 5-1.
This was a game for the ages. After ending the first period tied up at 0-0, the Tips tallied two goals in the first 3 minutes of the second forcing a change of Whistler goaltenders. Whistler pulled within one by the end of the second to make the score 2-1. The third period saw Whistler battle back to take a 3-2 lead with 2:50 remaining in the contest when the Whistler forward was able to out maneuver Hadaller to find the back of the net on a break away. Everett’s fortunes changed quickly though when Ernie Yake was tripped from behind on his own breakaway and awarded a penalty shot. Ernie tied the game following a terrific deke move. Both teams fought feverishly in the final two minutes to secure the winning goal but time ran out sending the game to a 5 minute 3 on 3 overtime period. Everett played the overtime defensively strong only allowing 2 shots on net and created many scoring opportunities that the Whistler goaltender turned away.
After 5 minutes the score was still knotted at 3-3 sending the game into a shoot out. Stuart Terrell scored Everett’s only shoot out goal as Whistler went on to win the Bronze in the shootout. In the game, the Jr Tips were outshot 48-25. John Greer had Everett’s other two goals, assists were provided by Myers and Terrell (2a) and Hadaller had 45 saves in net.
In the end the Everett Jr Silvertips Bantam Tier 2 placed fourth in a tournament of 12 teams with a 2-1-1-1 record with our losses being to the team that eventually won the tournament, Sunshine Coast A1, and in the shootout to a team a majority thought would win the tournament, Whistler A1. Everett also out scored their opponents 15gf – 13ga. Their performance exceeded the team’s expectations entering the tournament. Assistant coach Joe Jaromin noted that he is “very proud of how the team played” and the Bronze medal game “was one of the best games he has ever seen or been a part of.”
Congratulations Jr Tips on a strong Holiday Tournament performance!

EYH Squirt Selects Make Championship Game
|
Burnaby BC - The EYH Squirt Selects, a tryout team composed from two EYH Squirt C teams, gave a strong performance at the Canuck’s Place Charity Tournament in Burnaby, BC that was held December 27-30, 2010. The Selects chose to play in the stronger Squirt A (Atom in Canada) division to see where they stand.
On the first day of the tournament EYH sent a message they were there to compete with a first game 5 to 2 win over the Ridge Meadows Atom A3. Easton Thomas led the way with a hat trick. Caden Pattison (2a) and Zach Zielinski (1g, 1a) on the leader board as well.
The next day EYH needed to win both games to make the Championship game. The morning game was against North Shore Winter Club A4, a famous hockey program throughout Canada. The Squirt Selects played tough defense and prevailed with a 2 to 0 win. Garner Christensen with a well-earned shutout to secure the win.
The afternoon game featured the tough Coquitlam A3 team. Coquitlam struck first with two first period goals to put the Selects on their heels but it soon became apparent what kind of competitors Everett Youth Hockey is producing. The team battled back and the scoring tandem of Easton Thomas (2g) and Cameron Ford (2a) connected for two goals and the tie. However, the team lost Cameron due to upper-body injury from a cheap shot in the middle of the third period for the remainder of the tournament.
The next day, EYH played the tournament favorite Sunshine Coast Atom A1. They struck fast and hard and EYH was down 4 to 0 after the first. They battled for the next two periods, winning the second period 1 to 0 w/a goal by Taylor McCall with the eventual score being 6 to 1.
EYH, with the tournament’s second best record made the Championship game and earned a rematch with Sunshine Coast. EYH had a better performance in this game eventually falling 4 to 1 w/Easton collecting the only goal.
Head coach Ron Ford was pleased with his team’s performance saying "this is the first year EYH has fielded a higher-level squirt team and it shows by our play that we got alot of talent coming out of Everett."

Everett Grizzlies Win SnoKing Squirt Tournament
|
Kirkland, WA - Everett Youth Hockey sent two teams to the SnoKing Squirt Rec C Thanksgiving Tournament with high aspirations and these two teams did not disappoint. The Everett Youth Hockey Squirt Grizzlies rolled through the tournament undefeated out scoring their opponents 30 to 7 to bring home the championship after a 5-0 victory versus the Coquitlam Thunderhawks before a very supportive and loud cheering section.
There was no sign of a turkey and mashed potato hangover as the mighty Grizzlies started off the tournament with an 11-2 victory against NPSHL rival SnoKing Jr. Thunderbirds Green in the morning game on Friday November 26. The late afternoon game was more of the same from the Grizz as they defeated the North Delta Warriors 5-0. The third and final seeding game was a late afternoon tilt that saw the EYH powerhouse take down the Vancouver Thunderbirds 4-1. This victory cemented the Grizzlies as the #1 seed for championship play beginning early Sunday morning.
The semi final game was the only one that was ever in doubt at anytime during the tournament for the Grizzly team, the Vancouver Coyotes played a great game and took an early 2 goal lead in the first period but the Grizzly offense kicked in and potted 5 goals which was enough for them to win the game by a 5-4 score but not without tremendous pressure and a hard last second shot by the Coyotes which was saved by the last line of defense, Jack Tombs. This victory advanced the team to the championship game against the #2 seeded Coquitlam Thunderhawks.
The team was lead by the top scoring duo of Easton Thomas and Cameron Ford, with solid defensive group consisting of Matthew Klemm, Teddy Havener, Caden Pattison, and Dawson Coe. A thank you to coaches Kyle Klemm and Ron Ford. And a special thank you to team manager Tim Thomas.

EYH History is Made With First Ever Tier 2 Team
|
Everett, WA – The Everett Jr Silvertips Bantam Tier 2 team represents the next step in growth for Everett Youth Hockey, as they are the first EYH team to make it into PNAHA Tier 2 league play in the history of the organization. The team entered these unchartered waters not knowing what to expect at the next level of play, but confident in their abilities to compete in the Tier 2 league. And compete they have.
The season began in Tricities with the first portion of PNAHA tiering against teams from Wenatchee and Tricities, both league teams, and Spokane, a non-league team. Everett went 1-2-0 in those games. The following weekend saw the Jr Silvertips Bantam T2 team complete the tiering event playing games against SJHA AA, SKAHA T2, Kent T2, all league teams, the KCHA Outlaws and the SJHA AAA 97 team that is competing as a non-league Tier 2 team in PNAHA. The Jr Tips went 3-2-0 in those games completing the Tiering process with a 4-4-0 record, securing their spot in the PNAHA Tier 2 league.
Now, with the season underway and having played 6 league games, the Jr Silvertips Bantam Tier 2 team sits tied for first with the Tricites Jr Americans at 6-0-0. To get to this point has taken a solid team effort, both offensively and defensively, by the Jr Tips and has featured some noteworthy performances.
The team’s league play scoring is led by John Greer (8g,4a) and Ernie Yake(5g,6a), both 97-born players on the team. John rejoins the team this season, bringing Ernie, his previous seasons’ teammate, with him. Defensively, in league play the team has been led by 96-born players Ryan Jaromin(2g,3a, +11) and Rylan Huot(1g,2a, +11), as well as 97-born D-man Thomas Freeman(0g,2a, +14). The team has also enjoyed the solid play of 96-born goaltender, Jason Hadaller, who currently sits atop the league with a 6-0-0 record, 1shutout, .940 save pct., and a league leading 1.33gaa.
The Jr Silvertips Bantam Tier 2 team expects to play in excess of 50 games this season, consisting of Tiering, league play, exhibition and tournaments. Come out and support the team as it records its place in Everett Youth Hockey history during their inaugural season playing PNAHA Tier 2 hockey.
