Welcome to Junior Greyhound Lacrosse!

Dan Anderson Trophy
Lax Dawgs Take the Title at Dan Anderson Lacrosse Classic in Birmingham, AL

Summer Camps- Many of you have asked our coaching staff about summer camp opportunities for 2009.  At the bottom of this page, we'll maintain a list of lacrosse camps in the area and add to it as information becomes available.  We do not endorse any of these programs over another.  Please ask your teammates (or parents of players on the gms and U15 teams) for a review of the camps they have attended.

Thanks to all Jr. Greyhound families who supported this year's AJO4LAX Festival on March 27th and 28th.  We hope you enjoyed the Harvard v. Presbyterian game on Friday and the high school games at Lassiter on Saturday.

JUNIOR GREYHOUND HIGHLIGHTS

GIRLS GMS - This weekend the GMS girls faced two tough teams.  In the first game against Roswell , Natalie Schuster scored 3 goals and had 2 assists showing great stick skills both behind and in front of the goal.  Megan Lilly had a great game in goal with 8 saves.  While the girls lost 10-7, they fought hard and never gave up.  The second game against Walton went into overtime with 3 goals each from Mary Deatrick and Mark Markwordt.  Megan Lilly again had a great game in goal with an outstanding 19 saves.  Although the girls lost in sudden death overtime, this was a great game between equally skilled teams.  We look forward to hosting Hooch and Northview on Saturday and facing Walton again in a couple of weeks.

BOYS GMS - On May 2nd, the Lax Dawgs traveled to Chattanooga, TN to participate in the annual McCallie Middle School Lacrosse Tournament.  The Charlotte Cyclones defeated the Dawgs in the first game of the day, but the team bounced back and won games against McCallie and Harrison to make their way into the playoff bracket.  Unfortunately, they were seeded against the undefeated Cyclones again, and lost the semi-final game 8-2.  Our 2-2 record at McCallie brings our overall record to 23-5 for the 2009 season.  Unfortunately, the Dawgs were unable to participate in the GMS playoffs, as they would have had to skip the McCallie Tournament to play the opening round game.  There's no doubt that this team was certainly in the top five of all Georgia middle school programs this spring and would have gone far in the GMS playoffs.  Our 6th and 7th grade teammates look forward to returning next year and continuing where they left off.  Our 8th grade players, Andrew Bassett, Michael Daniels, Jon DeFrank, Keagan Devereaux, Zander Georgacopoulos, Logan Gross, Nick Lilly, Zack Powers, Colby Riviere, RJ Sick, Marc Siegelman, and Brayton Wadella will certainly make an impact on their high school lacrosse team next year.  Special recognition is given to Marc Siegelman and Brayton Wadella, our team captains, who have lead the Dawgs with their dedication and work ethic.

BOYS U15 - The U15s managed a tough 9-6 loss as the long break caught up with them. In addition to being down 4 players, the U15s lost Henrick Stokke halfway through the 2nd quarter with a broken foot. After going ahead 1-0, the team quickly fell behind 5-1 and failed to recover in enough time. Congratulations to Brett Sutherland, Matthew Rose, and Justin Powell. Brett continues to shine in goal, Matthew's faceoffs are lights out, and Justin Powell's stick handling skills have come miles since he first picked up a stick in January (scoring his first goal this week).

GIRLS U13 - The U13 Jr. Greyhound team continues to improve as each week passes. On Saturday, April 18th the Hounds took on Roswell.  Zoe Szczotka had an impressive hat trick, and Sydney Haag contributed with a goal of her own. Goalies Sydney Haag and Jessi Janis minded the net, rejecting a number of Roswell shots. Special mention goes out to Lee Hartert who played skillfully in both the offensive and defensive zones. While the Grehounds fell 8-4, the girls played well in transition and took a number of lessons from that game.

On Sunday, the U13 girls faced the Jr Trojans B team at Lassister's home field. Notable Greyhounds included Zoe Szczotka and Leslie Cleveland, each of whom scored a goal. A trio of goalies, including Brenna Moore, Jessi Janis and Sydney Haag kept the Jr Trojans' offense honest throughout the game. The Jr Trojans prevailed 8-2 against the Greyhounds in a hard-fought contest.

BOYS U13 - U13 Hounds had an exciting three days of lacrosse. Our thanks to the Pope High School Team for allowing us to shine during their halftime against Lovett. We moved the ball well but ended the 10 minute scrimmage scoreless due to outstanding goalie play from Oswald and Rose.

On Saturday, April 18, Peachtree City came to Hightower with a big team ready to play. Tyler Borko won the opening face-off and set the tone for the game. We won almost every face and ground ball and easily took the game 11-3. The defense of Bean, Emigh, and Ammons held PTC to one goal on three shots in the first half.   Luke Russell led the scoreing with four goals thanks to accurate passing from his teammates.
On the 19th, the Jr. Trojans gave the U13 Hounds their toughest game of the season. The 5-2 victory can be attributed to another outstanding game by our defense and great play from the Hound's attack. All five goals were scored by the attack - Devereaux, Lavelle, and Russell.   Our middies worked very hard and overcame a lot of physical play from the Lassiter defense.

BOYS U11 - The U11 Jr. Hounds lost 5-3 to Jr. Walton on April 18th.  Walton scored five goals in the first half before the Jr Hounds defense came together.  Michael Heim had two of the Jr. Greyhound's three goals in the second half to help cut the deficit, but time ran out before they could complete their comeback.  The team looks forward to hosting Allatoona on Saturday the 25th.

BOYS U9 - The U9's continued to show character this weekend with a tie and a win. On Saturday, the U9's were short 3 players which left them with only 1 substitute. The team fell behind to Roswell 4-9 but fought it's way back scoring 5 consecutive goals to tie the game. Carter McCullough had the game-tying goal which was also his first lacrosse goal ever! The team was also led by Drew Miller and Kevin Daniels with 4 goals each.

On Sunday, the U9's traveled to Peachtree City to take on the Warriors. Playing probably our best game of the year we took control of the game from the opening faceoff and beat PTC 11-3. AJ Miller was strong in the goal in the 1st half and scored a goal in the 2nd half. Nick Zollinger had a great ground ball day and also had his 1st assist of the season with a pretty catch and pass. The scoring was led by Matt Oswald and Kevin Daniels with 4 goals each followed Drew Miller with 2 goals. The team has 3 wins, 0 losses and 3 ties on the season.
