"I adopt the role of a facilitator rather than being the font of all knowledge. I set practice up with learning outcomes in mind and let training sessions develop with little or if any interruptions. Only on occasion I stopped play to make a coaching point to my players and also if the tempo and work ethic is not up to learning standards. The game is the teacher, not me! This has always been my philosophy from day one and the reason for my success developing and coaching players for over 25 years."

John Rexroat is an ex-semi pro soccer player with over 20 years of coaching and developing players at the club, high school, college and professional levels.  He carries very strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, train and educate athletes and coaches at all levels.

Rexroat was born in Bolivia and started playing soccer at age seven.  He was a three year varsity goalkeeper for University High School in Los Angeles, California.  He was selected all district first team during his junior and senior years, leading the Warriors to two playoff appearances.

Rexroat was a goalkeeper and played seven years for Cruz Azul in the Tolteca Semi-Pro league under Mexican coach Hector Anaya, and also served as captain during his entire playing career. He helped lead Cruz Azul win five championship titles and was awarded the goalkeeper golden gloves three years in a row. Rexroat allowed only 9 goals and posted 8 shutouts in his semipro season debut with Cruz Azul. Both goalkeeping accomplishments currently stand today and have never been approached.

After a bad ACL injury and ended his playing career. Rexroat hung up his boots and decided to train kids in his neighborhood for recreational play. In January of 2001 he opened a youth soccer club in West Hills, California and named it Valley Boys Soccer Club. He served as the club's Director of Coaching and Director of U8-U10 Academy teams for ten years. The club was based primarily of inner city kids from the San Fernando Valley.

Valley Boys SC boys U10 Academy (Valley Boys first club team put together at U6) won the 2004 bronze division championship (D2) in Coast Soccer League and then moved up to Silver (Super 2) the following year.  This talented U10 team also accomplished making the top elite eight (Quarterfinals) at the 2005 Cal-South State Cup (CYSA) and knocked out four U10 gold (D1) teams in the process from a draw of 72 teams.  All club teams under coach Rexroat have always made the round of 32 or better at all CYSA State Cups.

Rexroat was the head varsity soccer coach and goalkeeper trainer at Daniel Murphy from 2004 to 2007. An all boys Catholic preparatory high school in Los Angeles California, and led the Nobles to three winning seasons during his stay. Some of his players have gone on to play for DI, DII, and DIII colleges.  He has also developed trained goalkeepers who have gone on to make ODP, USSF Developmental Academy, College and Professional teams.

In the Fall of 2012. Rexroat was hired as the first women's varsity soccer coach for John Paul II high school in New Braunfels, Texas. He led the Guardians to a winning and playoff season. The team finished their inaugural season with an overall record of 11-5-1 and 6-5-1 in District 3A TAPPS. Also five of Rexroat's varsity players were selected for All District and State Teams.

Rexroat is the Director of Coaching and founder for Samba Futbol Club ( in San Antonio Texas, and also the Director of Academy Development for U8, U9, and U10 players.  In the Fall of 2014. Rexroat opened Samba Soccer Academy. The Academy provides elite technical training for field players and goalkeepers for all ages. He is also the head coach for Samba USL Super-20.

Rexroat holds an USSF National D license from the United States Soccer Federation and has an NSCAA Level IV Advance Youth Diploma, NSCAA Level I State Goalkeeping Diploma, an NSCAA Level II Regional Goalkeeping Diploma and will obtain the NSCAA Level III National Goalkeeping Diploma in March 2013.  He also holds other coaching credentials from STYSA, CYSA and AYSO.

Rexroat is a graduate from The Los Angeles Broadcasting School in 1989 with a degree in Business Broadcasting, and holds a certificate in Child Development from Santa Monica College.  He is one of the co-founders of "Gordinho's Soccer Buddies".  A non-profit organization collecting old soccer uniforms, equipment, shoes, and balls for inner city soccer clubs.

Coach Rexroat is currently the boys head varsity soccer coach at San Juan Diego Catholic High school in Austin, Texas. He resides in San Antonio with his wife Maggie and their two children, Tatiana and Jonathan. Tatiana is an avid volleyball and club soccer player. Jonathan is a professional footballer and plays in Mexico's Second Division.
