30 YEARS OF COMMITMENT TO YOUTH FOOTBALL
Here is the history of a great organization. Thank you to the many Jet alums, parents and coaches for the information they've provided.
When reviewing the archives, the writer was amazed at the amount of work and cooperation it has taken to maintain the Club over such a long duration. The accomplishment has first of all benefited thousands of youngsters while also allowing a committed group of men to honor the game they love. The love for the kids and the game has been validated by how many coaches have remained involved once their own sons have moved on to a higher level. In 2005 all of the Clubs Head Coaches and most assistants are Non-Parents.
The Riverside Merchants sponsored the earliest Jets squad in the early 1960's.The organization began with only a 5th and 6th grade team.
By 1972 the team had evolved into the "Antioch" Jets and was coached by Andy Patton. Around that time the Warger family became involved when Steve's brother Jeff played QB for the team. Other notable players included Thom McNenrny and Dennis Dizzelhoff whose son became a Jet. Dennis played at Missouri in the 70's and was also a Jets coach in the 90's.
In 1980, David Clevenger who is still involved in the league as a director, became the teams leader. During that period, current Jets Dad Clay Lenhart was the leagues top running back. Clay is now Track Coach at Park Hill South HS.
