League Wrap Up

image_name2
Folks:

The 12-Under group tried but couldn't play the final two games of the 12-Under playoffs because of rain on today on Sunday. As the fields all over the County are getting too wet to schedule, we have decided to wrap up the 2011 season.

The San Bruno Lightning is declared a 12-Under co-champion, while the Slammers are declared the National League champions. Both the Half Moon Bay Tides and the San Bruno Thunder are League runner-ups. I have team trophies for the 12-Under teams listed above.

We didn't do too badly this season. Only two 12-Under playoff games and six 14-Under games were not played due to scheduling problems. My personal compliments to one and all who persevered in getting rain out playoff games played during the week a couple of weeks ago to ensure we finished the season in three of the four leagues!

Problems were kept to a minimum between coaches this year. My thanks also to Stan Angel and the umpire association for their flexibility in staffing rain makeup games on short notice.

I am disappointed that there were several teams who did not pay the full fees this year even though they were promised to be paid. I am still expecting payment but as of this writing, I have not received them yet.

All coaches that have bills to go to the league, please send them to me by either e-mail or regular mail before December 1, 2011. Also, my cell phone is missing/stolen so (650) 520-9228 is no longer operable.

Again, thank you to 42 teams for a fine 2011. Expect to have the start-up meeting for the 2012 season again in the third week in July. Look for notice in this website in June. Any questions about aspect of the league or season, please feel free to write or telephone.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season, and look forward to next year!

JEFSL Announcements

18-Under

I regret to inform the 18-Under league that the San Bruno Warriors have dropped out of the league this year. Any teams that have games scheduled with the Warriors now will have a bye that week.

12-Under

There appears to be some confusion as to what rules are to be used in league play. All leagues in the JEFSL use the ASA Tournament rules -- except where coaches have voted for exceptions as they have in the 10-Under league. Therefore, in the 12-Under league like the 14-Unders and 18-Unders, nine players are used in the lineup. Continuous batting is not used. However, if a coach wishes to use unlimited batting, they can if the opposing coach allows the practice and agrees not to protest the result, regardless of the outcome. Most coaches will agree to this practice as the team with a lineup with more than nine players is at a disadvantage in that the top batters will not come to bat as often. If you use the unlimited lineup, there is unlimited switching of positions on the field, but there is no substitutions in the batting order. Therefore, you can't pitch hit or use a courtesy runner. If you go unlimited, please inform the umpire.

Sunday, June 12
JEFSL Organizational Meeting - July 20, 2011

To:         Jane Eymer Fast Pitch Softball League (JEFSL) Managers/Coaches

From:    Simi Lee, Comm.

Dear JEFSL Participant:

This letter will serve to inform you that the one and usually only organizational meeting of the Jane Eymer Fast Pitch Softball League will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 7-9 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Burlingame fire Department at 799 California Drive off of Palm. Take the Broadway exit off of Highway 101 and turn left or south. The station is on the right.

We will again attempt to organize 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under, 16-Under and 18-Under leagues. If we have four interested teams in an age division, we will go with that league.

It is extremely important that a representative from all NEW teams attend the meeting. We will be discussion days and time of day that your league will be playing, umpiring and field costs, rainy day procedures, and any new business brought up by teams/coaches. League refunds from the previous year will be distributed, if available. New teams not represented at the meeting will only be admitted if there is space available and in the order that their checks are received. If you are a returning team and cannot attend the meeting or send a representative and would still like to participate, please leave me a message. If you are a new team, you must send a representative.

We may have to limit the number of total teams in the league this year to 50. Last year, there were 44 teams. 1st priority will be given to any returning team in any age bracket with the fee paid by Wednesday, August 17, 2011. 2nd priority will be given to a new team with a representative at the meeting in order of fee checks paid. 3rd priority will be given to any new team with fee paid.

The 39th consecutive season of the Jane Eymer Fast Pitch Softball League will begin play on Friday, Sept. 9 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011. The basic fee this year will be $650 for 10-Under teams (one umpire league) and $1,000 for all other two-umpire leagues. Every team that does not have a free field available for use on at least two game days will need to include a $100.00/team surcharge on top of the basic league fee. At this writing, only Belmont, Burlingame and Half Moon Bay teams will not be assessed the surcharge. It is possible that teams using Sequoia and Woodside High and Palo Alto and Redwood City teams may also be exempted from the surcharge. League fees include umpires, balls, field costs, trophies, ASA league registration, and bank/administrative costs.

League fees do not include cost of individual playing equipment and insurance. Each player must show proof of ASA insurance (insurance card photocopies OK) for each individual player on the original roster and all additions. ASA insurance is available for all players at about $7.50/player.

The DEADLINE for fees, which must be accompanied by a roster is Wednesday, August 17th at midnight. Please remit fees in one lump sum. Written rosters will include names, addresses, birthdate, and phone numbers of players. Make checks out to San Mateo ASA and hand carry or mail to 210 South Idaho Street, San Mateo, CA 94401. Teams who have not submitted a roster will not receive a schedule.

People bringing in new teams: 1. Note that a player who played in at least one game for a team in the 2010 season cannot play on another team in the same age bracket (including a new team) in the 2011 season without that player first obtaining a written release from the original team. The release doesn't have to be fancy. Just state the player's name, and get the original coach to acknowledge that this player is released from the team. 2. If you cannot play at the days and time slots selected by the league at the league meeting, don't sign up. There are three weekend time slots selected by the coaches/managers for each league, and if you cannot play on any of those times, we cannot accommodate you.

If there are questions, give me a ring at 650-348-8146 or write me at: similee1@aol.com.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting.

Simi Lee
