Over the last hurdle in the 110's
Saturday, May 26
MASTER"S MEET CHAMPION X 2
Jeff continued his roll to the California State Meet by posting personal bests in both hurdle races Friday night at Cerritos College.
The North high school senior ran a great 110m high hurdle race battling Ventura's Chris Foster in the middle of the track and out sprinting him to the wire for a 13.92 win. The race was run with a just over allowable aiding wind of 2.1 mps.
Later in the evening Mr. Garrison was delayed in running his specialty 300m Intermediate hurdles while the emergency medical crew carted one of the female athletes off the track from the previous race. This delay did not prevent Jeff from setting another personal best clocking a 36.36 in winning easily.

State Meet Disappointment!
Although Jeff ran faster than he ever had before in BOTH hurdle races he was not happy with the results. So unhappy with the highs that he coasted in after he saw he was not going to beat the defending state champ Taft's Chris Morgan. Morgan too set a personal record clocking a 13.59 with a slight aiding wind. While Jeff slowed to a finish San Diego rival Jeff Hunter nipped him at the tape to take second leaving Mr. Garrison third.
Set for the 300m hurdles Jeff got out well but stuttered many hurdles and was even with Hunter off the turn, staying close all the way to the line but again stuttering over the last few hurdles would keep Riverside's Garrison from fulfilling his 2001 goal. Coming in 2nd in 36.30 Garrison would run his last 300m Intermediate Hurdle race.
Scheduled to compete in the Golden West Invitation where the top 9 athletes in each event are asked to attend, Jeff would have to pull-out because of senior final exams Thursday & Friday.
Jeff will run next week in Raleigh, North Carolina in the Adidas Scholastic Championships where he'll run the 400m IH and 110m HH's.

Down The Stretch And To The Lead
36.37 at Arcadia Invitational!!!
Jeffrey went to Arcadia determined to run under 37 Saturday, thinking 36.9, 36.8 maybe.
Things didn't start out well. Jeff was late getting onto the track having only enough time to set his blocks. No practice start and didn't take any practice hurdles. At the gun he got a horrible start getting beat to the first hurdle by Jeff Hunter of Granite Hills (Jeff NEVER gets beat to the first hurdle) then jumping awkwardly over the second hurdle. Now in about 5 place Jeff puts it all together and reels everyone in and passed Hunter on the straight-away zooming to a new meet record eclipsing all-time record holder George Porters 36.40 and moving into 4th place all-time for California.
The 110's, run earlier in the day saw Jeff hit the first hurdle and battle back to about 2nd or 3rd and eventually end up 5th with a so-so 14.39.
Although entered in the invitational race our 4x4 team did not run.

300mIH Time Ranks Jeff 3rd in the Nation!
The 300 Hurdles are Jeffs favorite race and he promises to lower his PR each time he runs on rubber. At the Pasadena Games he did not disappoint running a 37.13 putting him 3rd in the national high school rankings just behind Bennie Brazell (36.55) and Brian Hickman (37.04) both of Texas. Too bad the 300's aren't run at the Texas Relays next week but Jeff will probably meet these guys in the 110's.

PASADENA GAMES
When you hit three hurdles and knee yourself in the chin you can't expect to win against the best in the state. All things considered though, Jeff did great coming in second in the 110mHH's to Chris Morgan's PR 13.90. Jeff got out of the blocks and took the lead immediately but banging a hurdle early and Morgans 100m speed saw him take over and win it, this time. Other State Meet 110 finalists Scott Jarvis and Jon Williams were also in this race.

Jeff won both of his specialty events to capture Division 1 CIF titles Saturday at Cerritos College. His 4x1 and 4x4 teams didn't fare as well but overall much better than expected this year.
Running a "careful" 300 hurdle race, Jeff stuttered nearly every hurdle and still won handily.
NEXT MEET
Friday 5/25 at 6:00PM Cerritos College.
