What is hot dipped Galvanizing?

Hot dipped Galvanizing greatly extends the life of gates & railings. Once the product has been painted, it reduces maintenance to almost nothing for years and years. The steel items are dipped into a hot bath of Zinc, forming an all over coating which prevents rusting for up anything from 20 years and to 50 years and more. No more rubbing down and repainting, just great looking metal.

If you have any questions at the moment, e-mail us, or you can contact us on 01506 461925, or on our mobile 07979 863 811

What is Powder coating?

Fast outstripping solvent based paints, powder coating out performs many alternatives. Hardwearing but beautiful, this organic coating is being used on a huge range of substrates from cars to gates, from structural steel to street furniture. It is available with varying gloss levels, a staggering range of colours from the subtle pastels to vibrant statement making brights, and even with textures.

Adhesion of the coating is all important and is only achieved by appropriate pretreatment. Our 12 stage system ensures the coating life that you would expect. Pretreatment, in fact, is so important that without it adhesion failure would be rapid. A simple T-Wash might last several months, but our system will last for decades. The process involves a comprehensive chemical based treatment to ensure adhesion of the organic coating which is then applied as a powder and oven cured.

For exterior applications, galvanizing before coating will ensure that corrosion is not a problem in the service life of the item. This system of protection is referred to as 'Duplex' and greatly increases the life expectancy of the substrate.

So how much does it cost?

Not as much as you might think! In fact consider this, with the long life expectancy of powder coated articles, one coat will last for decades. A painted article however will need fresh coats every few years at added expense and this expense will keep accumulating (as the price of paint rises) throughout the entire life of the structure! So in the long run even though the initial cost outlay of powder coating might seem expensive in reality it is cheaper than paint.

These gates are specialist gates, and are available in several sizes, but due to the complicated fabrication and welding work required to make these gates, the cost is VERY expensive.

We fully weld our gates, and recommend galvanising before a final coat of paint is applied.  For more information on galvanising, please visit our FAQ page.
