INTRO to JACKSON SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT, INC.
Jackson Sports & Entertainment, Inc (JSE), is a Michigan non-profit corporation being formed by Robert E. Fillmore who has been involved with semi-professional sports in Jackson County since 1992.
With the goal of promoting low cost, family oriented sports & entertainment in Jackson County. Presently Jackson Sports & Entertainment is working to advance semi-pro sports in Jackson County with the Michigan Jayhawks semi-professional football organization, Jackson Tidal Wave semi-professional basketball organization, and Jackson Lightning semi-professional soccer franchise. There is also the possibility of bringing local concert/band festivals, such as the old country music jamborees, back to Jackson.
I was an athletic trainer, while I was in high school, with the original Jackson Bombers who were formed by Bob Kubiak. I remember us drawing 4,500 fans per game easily. There was very little marketing, the media got behind us, then it became all word of mouth water cooler talk type marketing. I want to bring back the fan support for semi-pro football and semi-pro sports in Jackson, says Robert Fillmore, President and Founder of Jackson Sports & Entertainment.
Fillmore adds, In Racine, Wisconsin, the Racine Raiders have been around 50 years. Fans and the community have come to depend on the franchise being around. They average 8,000 fans per game. They have a waiting list of businesses wanting to sponsor them. They even have a waiting list for some volunteer positions. I want to get to that point with Jackson Sports & Entertainment and our franchises.
Fillmore also adds, Our semi-pro franchises can be major assets to the community. An example was with the original Jackson Bombers, we were able to make financial donations to the Salvation Army, Jackson High School, and Interfaith Shelter. Even with the Jackson Jaguars and the new Jackson Bombers when we were not in a financial position to make major donations, we participated in the WalAmerica, the Michigan Center Carp Carnival Parade, the Relay-for-, visited nursing homes, visited patients at Foote Hospital, and collected eye glasses for the Lions Club. We also mean revenues for the schools where we play. We provide low cost, family oriented, entertainment for fans. We provide a low cost activity for teens, says Fillmore.
The goal of Jackson Sports & Entertainment, Inc., is not only to provide low cost sports & entertainment in Jackson County, but also to be good citizens.
Games for our teams are essentially fundraisers. We have the responsibility for us to be positive role models in the community, which means everybody. We can not have and will not tolerate our players, coaches, cheerleaders, or staff drinking while in a parade. We can not have and will not tolerate our players, coaches, cheerleaders, or staff causing problems at the bar or hotels after practices, games, or other activities. We can not have and will not tolerate our players, coaches, cheerleaders, and staff just not showing up to public appearances which they committed to be at.
