2005 Night of Champions
ISA's awesome Night of Champions for 2005 saw some of the best competition ever, from teams in our area.
Just as exciting for ISA board members, was the coming together of Bismarck and Mandan's own "Soccer Legends" from our community. Several of the dignitaries named on our championship trophies, attended the evening's activities and personally presented trophies to the winning teams.
Relaxing at tournament control: Back row: ISA President Paul Stubbs, Dave Ripley (seated), Dan Taylor, Dale Heinert and Doc Balogh. Seated in front, Carl Eckelberry and grand-daughter Natasha.

 | | | 2005 High School Boys champions The Pink Thongs |
The High School season culminated in a night of thrills and action like nothing we had seen before! On the boys side, The Pink Thongs rumbled through their opposition all year long and finished their season with an impressive 8-3 victory over a very talented Leaping Leprechaun team.
The girls final was a classic confrontation of youth against experience, as the mighty Gladiators confidently strode into the final against an exuberant Storm team that always looked like they could explode against any opposition! And indeed they did! Claiming the right to place their names on the magnificent Eckelbery Trophy, as 2005 Girls High School Champions!

2004 Girls K-4th group photos
Coaches Melissa, Tina, Ben, Tyler, Mez, Dave and Crystal proudly stand with our fantastic 2004 K-4th grade girls at the Saturday morning session.
The coaches tell me that these girls have more energy than a bus full of bees!! So the poor coaches are pooped at the end of the day .. but they love it.
The official photo day will be December 4th at the end of each session. All the ISA coaches will be there, so we will have a lot of fun taking those pictures.
Board member Lana is planning another event for the last Saturday session on December 18th. I'm not sure what all the details are but you can bet it involves fun and festivities!
ISA board members will also be handing out parent surveys in the next few weeks. Please take the time to give us your input on our programs. We learn a lot from these surveys every season and hope you appreciate the changes we make, based on suggestions from parents, fans and even players. A prime example this year was the introduction of stacking chairs for our spectators. They have been a great hit and are quickly snapped up by our fantastic Saturday supporters! But please let us know if there are things you think we can improve on. You can always drop me a line on the official ISA e-mail address too.
See you on Saturday

Patriot Day Parade
Brent Geiss polished up his pickup for a very special day on September 11th. It was ISA's center-piece for the fantastic parade that wound its way through Bismarck on a drizzly Saturday morning. Several of ISA's board members and volunteers were in attendance, together with players from our leagues and developmental programs. They gave away candy on route and entertained the spectators along the way with fabulous ball dribbling skills and other fun give-aways.
Despite the somewhat gloomy weather conditions, everybody had a great time and even "Futsal Freddie" swinging in the back of Brent's truck, seemed to have a smile on his face!
Check out more parade pictures on our "Albums" page.

Night of Champions results
 | | | | Doc Balogh (in red) meets the U9-U10 boys |
First year for U9-U10 competition.
With about one week left before the official deadline for registrations, Dave Schettler approached me with an idea .....
That idea was the formation of an under 10 year old competitive league! So how did it go? League coordinator, Mike Wolfer, certainly had his hands full with 6 seperate leagues to sort out but after a couple of days it was evident that things were going to work out fine. We decided to have the kids play under US Futsal Federation rules and regulations, with certified Futsal officials but without an official score sheet.
Several of our ISA developmental coaches stepped up to act as coaches and we were off and running.
8 weeks later, we are watching these enthusiastic players enjoying the cheers and support from their families as they play in the Night of Champions exhibition games.
Seen in this picture, is Bismarck soccer legend Bella "Doc" Balogh, helping Dan Taylor, Haddis Hailu and Mike Wolfer present participation trophies to all the U9-U10 boys.
U9-U10 Girls and Boys
Here are the boys again, clutching their well-deserved trophies.
And here are the girls relaxing after an exciting night of competition and fun.
U11-U12 Girls and Boys
 | | | | Amanda Geiss and her Earthquakes |
|
There was fantastic action in two closely contested finals for the U11-U12 titles
In the Girl's championship, The Earthquakes were paired up against the Fireballs. Dan Sweep's Fireballs had recently played for the championship title in the Futsal Classic, coming up 1 goal short, so this was going to be quite a tussle. Amanda Geiss had her Earthquake team firing on all cylinders so the NOC championship game was going to be a sizzler!
Final result ... Earthquakes 2 Fireballs 1
In the Boys championship it was the Orange Crush battling the Snipers.
Final result ... Orange Crush 3 Snipers 4 (in overtime!)
U13-U14 Girls and Boys
 | | | | Blue Chill ladies with The Doc Balogh Cup |
It really wasn't that cold .. but we had two Chills in the Girls U13-U14 championship game! The Blue Chill came up against their namesakes; The White Chill.
Final result ... Blue Chill 2 White Chill 1
In the boys U13-U14 championship we had what appeared to be a lop-sided contest with the Red Devils forced to play a man down throughout the game against Al Weisbek's Fusion. But Devil's coach Joel Jahnke wasn't about to have his plucky team roll over just yet! In a real nail-biting affair, the two teams played in front of a packed house of supporters; producing one of the most closely contested games in the entire evening.
Everyone knew what was going to happen ... yup! Overtime .. but even that couldn't break the deadlock and special guest trophy presenter, Dave Ripley, was beginning to wonder if he was witnessing the longest Futsal match ever played!
With both goalies giving it everthing they had, the two teams went to the penalty kick shoot-out, to find out who was going to be holding the "Dave Ripley Cup" at evening's end.
Eventually the Fusion prevailed ... 4-4 in regulation, 5-4 after PK's

Super sponsors!
ISA is truly grateful for the fantastic support that we have received from local businesses.
The Heart and Lung Clinic Foundation has once again provided significant funding for the player shirts that our Saturday morning participants so proudly wear.
This year we also received support from Terry Richter of State Farm Insurance. His generous donation enabled us to provide even more T shirts for this year's programs and next.
Safety is always a major concern for organizations working with children. We have been very lucky to find a sponsor who has made our indoor playing fields much safer. Miller Insulation came up with an ingenious way to cover our divider net posts, to make them soft and spongy and yet still hold up our huge 50' nets! This year they recovered them for us and even improved the design to make them last longer! These guys are really creative! Thank you.

Futsal Classic Tournament

This year's tournament was another huge success!
High School Girls and Boys
They had been dominant all season, and things weren't about to change in the semi-finals and finals! When the Chaos walked onto the court Tuesday evening against Man Utd in the first semi-final, they hadn't tasted defeat the entire season. Indeed they had only been scored on 10 times in the regular season .. what could they possibly fear? Oh yeah ... There is this other team .. The Gladiators. They were undefeated too and their record reflected only 7 goals conceded! I wonder who is going to meet in the final?
Dave Glatt's Storm was overwhelmed by the Gladiators 5-0 in the first semi and Man Utd also buckled under the pressure of the Chaos lineup, falling 5-0 in a wave of offence, in the second semi.
So what happens when these two juggernauts meet in the final? All tied up at haf-time of course, 1-1. But then the strength and experience of the Gladiators began to show through ... several players from the State Championship Century team are on this team; Markee Gartner, Kellie Miller together with ex-Century stand-out and now U-Mary starter, Beth Gartner; So it was almost inevitable:
Result 6-2 Gladiators.
In the Boys league, Perennial powerhouse Redrum had been rolling through the competition, on it's way to an undefeated season. Several other quality teams were lurking at the top of the division; Killer land Dolphins, Colfax White Gravy and The Rabbits but could any of them unseat the Rummies?
In the semi's Colfax took advantage of a disorganized Funk Soul team that only fielded 3 players at the start of competition! They were to prevail 14-1, clearly an embarassment to the Futsal Classic Champions. In the other semi, the Rabbits gave Redrum a run for their money but were eventually thumped 7-3.
In one of the last games of the evening, Redrum faced off against Colfax in a splendid championship game that lived up to its anticipated billing. The match flowed back and forth with many memorable moments of skill and athleticism. Scoring twice for Colfax was Chris Schmidt but with goals from Matthew Fitterer, Alex Halvorson and a game winner from Matt Brandner the Redrum team was soon hoisting the Kirk Eckelberry Trophy as worthy champions in 2004.

Line-X protecting our assets
Ever wondered why the tops of our Kwik-Goals are coated with a black finish?
That's Line-X, protectant finish and it has been applied to our goals by "Line-X of Bismarck Mandan."
The folks at Line-X donated their services to ISA and added the protectant finish to our goals so that they didn't wear out from the constant dragging across that abrasive, artificial turf surface. It has proved to be an excellent product and will preserve our expensive aluminium goals from premature damage.
So a huge "Thank You" to Jeremy Lee and his mom and dad, who own Line-X of Bismarck/Mandan .... their product can be applied to pickup beds, trailers and lots of other assorted items; So look them up at 3936 Memorial Highway, Mandan, ND 58554. or call 667-2199
