Racers reach Silver Sticks Final

The Indianapolis Racers Bantam Silver team recorded three straight victories to reach the final of the Silver Sticks Mid-America Regional at Fort Wayne on November 8-9.

The Racers opened play with an 8-2 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets B on Saturday morning.  That evening, Indy came back from an early 1-0 deficit to earn a hard-fought 3-1 triumph over the Rochester (Mich.) Racers.  On Sunday, the Racers secured their spot in the championship game with a 5-1 win over the Fort Wayne River Rats B.  In the final, Indy trailed 2-0 to the South Bend Irish Rovers in the first period before pulling to within 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Cory Sucese with 4:46 remaining.  But, the Rovers added an insurance goal to prevail, 3-1.

Racers win Brooklyn, Ohio Tournament!

The Indianapolis Racers Bantam Silver team went 4-0 to win the championship of the Brooklyn, Ohio, Columbus Day Tournament!

In the championship game, the Racers came back from an early 1-0 deficit to record an 8-1 victory.  Left wing Ben King tied the contest at the 9:30 mark of the first period with a goal on assists from center Kellen Miller and right wing Tyler Shady.  The Racers took the lead for good with 4:16 left in the first period on a power play goal by right wing Cory Sucese off an assist from center Addison Smart.

It remained 2-1 until 1:57 remaining in the second period when center Josh Goyke scored off assists from right wing Kyle Kremer and left wing Zac Edwards.  Just 1:24 later, Shady scored off assists from Miller and King to give the Racers a 4-1 lead after two periods.

Early in the final period, Sucese made it 5-1 off assists from defenseman Eric Gentry and Smart.  Goyke then added the final three goals, with defenseman Jacob McCrory and Kremer assisting on the second one and Edwards setting up the final one.

Jaylen Mitchell made five saves to get the win in goal.

Indy opened play on Sunday morning with an 11-1 win over the same Parma team.  Eight different Racers scored goals and 10 notched assists, with Nick Nelson making nine saves in goal.  

Seven different players scored against Brooklyn (12-2) on Saturday night, with 11 Racers recording at least one assist.  Right wing Cory Sucese had a hat trick and an assist for four points in the contest.  Left wing Ben King had two goals and two assist to match Sucese with four points.  Centers Addison Smart and Josh Goyke notched two goals and an assist.  Left wing Connor Helrigel and defenseman Derek McGrew had two assists, while defenseman Jacob McCrory and left wing Zac Edwards each had a goal and an assist.  Goalie Jaylen Mitchell recorded eight saves to get the win in goal.

In the 10-1 win over Mentor (OH) on Saturday afternoon, seven different players scored goals and seven had assists.  Left wing Zac Edwards recorded a hat trick and he added an assist for a team-high four points.  Center Kellen Miller had three assists, center Josh Goyke contributed two goals and an assist.  Right wing Tyler Shady and defenseman Jacob McCrory each had a goal and an assist.  Left wing Ben King, defenseman Eric Gentry, and right wing Cory Sucese added a goal apiece, while defensemen Robert Hicks and Derek McGrew each had an assist.  Goalie Nick Nelson stopped 13 of 14 shots to earn the win in goal.
