The Clinton Irish Blizzard continued their winning ways with another impressive win over the Seacoast Vipers on Saturday night. The Irish Blizzard mixed a relentless rushing attack with another terrific defensive effort in a 55-0 blanking of the Vipers. Scott Allard ran for 3 touchdowns and Dee Whitehead contributed 129 yards on the ground to lead the Blizzard offense. Cornerback Ronnie Guyton returned an interception for a touchdown and linebacker Alex Mitchell picked off another Viper pass as the defense recorded its 3rd straight shutout.
Chris Leblanc staked Clinton to an early lead as he fielded the opening kickoff and raced 80 yards to paydirt. Jamie Cairns added the point after kick giving the Irish Blizzard a 7-0 lead just twenty seconds into the game. After a three-and-out series for Seacoast, a poor snap on a punt attempt gave the Irish Blizzard a 1st and goal from the 4 yardline. Allard (4 carries / 58 yards, 3TDs) took a handoff from John Riccio and raced into the endzone extending Clinton’s lead to 14-0.
Following a Vipers punt, Allard and Whitehead (4 carries / 129 yards, 1 TD) went to work combining for 63 yards on the next series. Allard capped things off streaking 29 yards untouched into the endzone widening the Irish Blizzard lead to 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. After an Alex Mitchell interception, the Blizzard opened the second quarter right where they left off with Allard taking his last handoff of the night and blasting into the endzone from 4 yards out giving Clinton a 28-0 second quarter lead.
The Irish Blizzard added 2 more touchdowns before the half. Quarterback Matt Parker hooked up with tight end Ernie Adams on an 18 yard passing touchdown before Whitehead raced 70 yards for a touchdown, closing out a 42 point first half by Clinton.
With a big second half lead, the Irish Blizzard were content to grind out yards on the ground while continuing their stellar defensive play. Running backs Ryan Aldrich and Sean Kerrigan earned most of the carries in the second half. Clinton got 4th quarter scores from Guyton who picked off an errant Viper pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown and Aldrich closed out the scoring with a 5 yard touchdown run midway through the 4th period.
The Clinton defense gave another terrific all-around effort. The defensive line was led by Dwayne Forbes, Brian Publicover, and Luis Rodriguez who combined for three sacks and three tackles for loss. Dave Flaherty and Mitchell paced the linebacking unit, combining for 8 tackles and an interception. Matt Guimond, Chris Leblanc, Derek Guimond and Guyton anchored the secondary. Guyton recorded an interception return for touchdown.
The Irish Blizzard offense relied on its rushing attack most of the night. T. R. Staake, Jamie Cairns, Jeff Learned, Matt Kronopolus, and Josue Diaz were dominant up front as Irish Blizzard running backs combined for 237 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Allard (4/58, 3 TDs), Whitehead (4/129, 1 TD), Aldrich (4/31, 1 TD), and Kerrigan (4/21) all contributed to the rushing attack. Parker and Adams hooked up for the lone passing touchdown
