How well do you know the rules?
So how did you guys do on the ruling??
Well let's run through them one by one.....
Scenario 1:
Question: In a fake fieldgoal/PAT must the holder's knee be off the ground before he catches the snap?
A: In NCAA ruling, as long as there is a player in a position to kick the ball, the holder's knee may be down, even on a fake kick pass! He can even throw with his knee down.
In High School, he would have to lift his knee before he threw the ball but again, he wouldn't be ruled down!
Scenario 2:
The defense have 12 players on the field, but one player is attempting to make it to the sidelines.
What is the penalty?
A: Illegal substitution - 5 yards. Not to be confused with Illegal participation - 15 yards. As long as the offending player is making an attempt to get off the pitch!
Scenario 3:
Who are the eligible receivers and what numbers may they wear?
A: Pass eligibilty rules apply to who is eligible to CATCH a legal forward pass. The receiver must be eligible by position AND by number. There are up to 6 eligible positions at the snap:
The 2 players legally on the end of their line
A player legally in his backfield--up to 4 including the QB
Also, these receivers must be wearing a number other than 50 thru 79 to catch the pass
Scenario 4:
Question: A run back of a punt for a touchdown was called back and the defense was penalized for ROUGHING THE CENTRE. It didn't appear there was any kicking or unnecessary force on the center's neck or head. At that time in the game it was a crucial call and NBC never explained the rule. Why?
A: NCAA: During a kicking play the defense cannot contact the snapper at all until 1 second has elapsed. Penalty: 15yds, automatic 1st down
well I hope thatbhas answered a few questions, keep checking back for more game scenarios!!
