ISA/USSF E-LICENSE COURSES
Iowa Soccer Association is offering five USSF E-License coaching courses in July and August 2011 in West Des Moines, Johnston, Ames, Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids. The E-License course is an 18-hour weekend course aimed at U9 through U14 coaches. The curriculum focuses on the development of the player and takes the player from being technically oriented to refining those techniques and applying them to game situations. Coaches coaching in the ISA U10 Academy program must have a USSF E-License qualification before they can coach in the program.

Coaches can register online or download an application form at the following site http://www.iowasoccer.org/Courses . If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Ian Bradley at 515-252-6363 ext 102 or by e-mail at ibradley@iowasoccer.org .

ALLIANCE FEE POLICY ON HIGH-SCHOOL AGE TEAMS:

The club has a three tiered fee structure which is based on the number of "contacts" (practices, league games, tournament games, other sessions etc.), that the club's professional coaching staff look to provide for individual players/teams during the soccer season (August 1 through July 31 of the following year). Simply, all U11 and older players (including high schoolers) are in the third tier ($720 for the 2010-11 season), because of the expectation that the number of contacts for these age groups will all be about the same for the 12 month period listed. However, in order for high school age players/teams to reach this number, there is an expectation that U15 and U16 age teams will practice THREE times per week during the Fall season AND will partcipate in a post high school "summer" club season (i.e. from late May/early June to late June/early July). Over the years, these "summer" seasons have tended to vary considerably depending on each team's levels of interest, desire and availability. It should be noted though, that the club will provide the necessary support and coaching to meet these requirements. In 2009 the high school Xplosion Girls team played in FOUR tournaments after the high school season over a five week period; practices and games combined made for well over 20 contacts; this past season the U15 Shockwave Boys attended THREE tournaments, the U16 Starz Girls ONE with a corresponding reduction in contact numbers during this period.

So the key is the provision of opportunities by the professional coaching staff throughout the year, which basically break down into FOUR time periods (Fall, Winter 1, Winter 2 and Summer - Spring/Summer for non-high schoolers) as we look to meet the contacts goal... and hopefully the following calendar (based on 2010-11 dates) will help:

Fall - w/b Aug. 23 to w/e Nov. 5 = 11 weeks: 30/33 practices; 3/4 tournaments; 8 league games
Winter 1: w/b Nov. 15 to w/e Dec. 17 = 5 weeks: 9/10 practices
Winter 2: w/b Jan. 10 to w/e Mar. 4 = 8 weeks: 15/16 practices
Summer: w/b Jun. 6/13 (depending on tryouts) to w/e Jul. 8: 8/12 practices; 2/3 tournaments

Iowa City Alliance Soccer Club player and families,

Welcome to what is sure to be another exciting year of soccer. I would like to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Paul Dayrell and I am the new Director of Coaching for the Alliance Soccer Club. I have been involved in youth soccer for many years, coaching at various levels and have come to Iowa City from the Muscatine Soccer Club, where I served as Director of Coaching for 3 years. I grew up playing the game in England and made the move to the U.S. in 2002 to pursue a coaching career.

I have received an incredibly warm welcome from those I have already met and I look forward to meeting all of our membership over the coming weeks and months. Parents, as always in a new situation/organization, I will strive hard to learn names as quickly as possible, but please don't be offended if I struggle to remember yours, as I will be concentrating on learning your childrens' names first!

I would like to give you all an understanding of my vision/thoughts on the development of youth soccer and how we can build upon the great success and tradition that the Alliance Soccer Club  has already established.

I am a huge believer in player development and the important role that we as coaches play in  young peoples lives, not only on the soccer field, but in teaching them important values and acting as appropriate role models. I view a successful club as an organization that has appropriate levels of training based on age/ability and whilst we are training individual players, for specific teams, we all play/coach/support the Iowa City Alliance Soccer Club. I truly believe that Club is above all else and club unity through players, coaches and parents is at the heart of a successful and healthy club.

As Director of Coaching, I feel an important need to work with all of our kids throughout the course of a year, spending time with different age groups and levels to ensure that sense of club unity and to assist in keeping consistency throughout our program. Where and when I spend my time with different groups will be somewhat determined by the different seasons and commitments I have to the club, however it is highly important that every kid knows who I am and has access to me.

There are lots of ways that Club unity can be enhanced and I will be working closely with Ian and the staff to introduce some of those ideas for the fall season.

Finally, I can not express enough gratitude for the help and support Andrew is giving me in this transitional period. He will clearly be a huge loss for the club, but I can assure you his love for the club, its members and youth soccer in general is driving his efforts in working with me until the end of July. This is a true luxury and tremendous advantage to the club that we are working together for the first couple of months, as it allows me to hit the ground running in the fall.

I wish Andrew all the best and know that his good work will continue to grow.

Thanks,

Paul Dayrell
