Here is a quote from the head coach of LeHigh Basketball team.  He shared this simple, to the point, quote on his chalkboard for his team before they upset the "mighty" #2 Duke in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. This is a simple quote that established the tone for the entire game. You must:

Dave Salo

Olympic Coach Dr. Dave Salo Clinic another success!

I heard many swimmers and coaces on deck at our last clinic say that this was the best clinic so far. With several Olympians present and an Olympic Coach directing, it was hard not to be a great clinic. Thanks to Dr. Salo and his swimmers and all the volunteers who helped make this a success. Hopefully they will return next year for another round!

'Iolani Senior Group Ocean Swim

Thanks to all that helped make the Senior Group Fall Ocean Swim a success this weekend. The day started with some longer ocean swims and practice for open water spotting, drafting, and passing. We finished up with some open water sprints, practice on our beach starts, and finally a friendly game of flags on the beach.

Below is a picture of the senior group with our new mascot...future raider Brady B.

'Iolani Technique Clinic

A special thanks to all the ISC coaches and ISC senior swimmers that helped out with our first 'Iolani Team Clinic On October 14. We learned a lot about the four basic principles of swimming (B-A-E-P), had some fun relays together, and coach Brandy lead us in a great new team cheer!

Lot's of fun.

Thanks to everyone that was able to make it and we look forward to seeing you at the next clinic currently scheduled for Friday, November 18 from 3:20-4:20. We'll cover more drills, learn more about race preperation, and do more team building exercises.

Keep up the good work and use the skills you learned EVERYDAY in practice. It's not practice that makes perfect, it's PERFECT practice that makes perfect!!

Shanteau Clinic
Shanteau and the Iolani Swim Club

THANKS TO ERIC SHANTEAU

A big mahalo to Olympian Eric Shanteau for the clinic he hosted this past weekend. By all accounts this was the most informative and thorough clinic yet. Eric covered all four strokes and provided lots of insight on everything from dryland training, reaction drills, starts, turns, and so much more. And on top of that he shared his amazing and inspiring story of how he got to the Olympics despite so many setbacks and even overcoming cancer!

Very motivational and very information.

Thanks so much Eric.

And a huge Mahalo to the 'Iolani Swim Club parents for all of their help putting this together. We couldn't do it without you!

ISC NEWS: 7-Time Olympic Medalist Aaron Peirsol Visits with 'Iolani Swim Club
Peirsol visits ISC
7-Time Olympic Medalist Aaron Peirsol Instructs
Olympic Gold Medalist Aaron Peirsol conducted a Hawaii Tour of Champions Swim Clinic at the 'Iolani Swim Club recently. Aaron graciously took a break from a professional bodysurfing competition (his new hobby) to come visit with the team, talk with our swimmers, and even trained a bit with our senior and elite team.  At one point we even caught him shooting some hoops on Friday Funday with the Gold Group under the code name 'Roger.' Thanks Aaron for a great clinic and for visiting with our team in the week leading up to the clinic! 'Iolani Swim Club considers you Ohana and we wish you the best in all that you do!

'IOLANI'S TOM QUALIFIES FOR OLYMPIC TRIALS

Stanford, CA August 4, 2011- It's official. 'Iolani Swim Club will be well represented at the 2012 Olympic Trials, the highest level of national swimming in the United States. Our own Randall Tom qualified for the Olympic Trials this morning in the 100 meter Butterfly in a time of 54.34 (time standard was 55.29). The Olympic Trials will be held in July 2012 in Omaha, Nebraska. Only the top two individuals in each event will go on to compete for the USA in the Olympic Games in London. However, just qualifying for the Olympic Trials solidifies a swimmer as being in the top 1% of all swimmers in the United States!!

Coach Bobby Brewer said of the swim, "Well, I pretty much knew he'd qualify for trials seeing how Randall went a 55.3 in practice last week. The trial cut was a no brainer after that. To go 54.4 after only 3 months of training was impressive. Imagine what we can do after another year of training. The sky is the limit!!! Now it's time to relax a bit and then start formulating our plan for Omaha."

Congratulations from the 'Iolani family to Randall. Keep up the good work.
