The Dodgers came into the weekend looking to double its win total for the 2008 campaign. 18 innings later, the Dodgers came out with a 3-1 record and a smooch of their sis. The Blue Team won a hard fought game against the Hurricanes, but couldn't keep momentum as they fell to the Arrows in the night cap.
The first game was a match between two old rivals in the MABL. The game featured two of the best arms in the league and two of the best lineups in the league as well. Big Game John Hensley held the Dodgers at bay for most of the game, but a late rally lifted the Blue to a 7-5 victory after the lead changed hands several times. The Dodgers struck in the first inning with a run as Damon Grothe blasted a double to start things for the Dodgers. Kurt Brabender knocked him in with one of his three hits on the day. Brabender was not done however as he drove in two more runs, including a crucial game-tying RBI in the bottom of the 7th inning. For the go-ahead tally, the Dodgers used the team approach. Matt Bush led off the 8th inning with a double in the gap. Al Ready slapped a ground ball to the right side. And Drew Sylvester promptly knocked him in with a sacrifice fly. Other notables on the day include Dan Taylor, who was 3-4 with 2 steaks, Dustin Waalkens, with 3 solid innings pitched and a tape-measure bomb, and Mark Buis who dusted off his cup and played third base and had two hits on the day. The Tommy goes to Kurt Brabender however, because of his timely hitting and 3 crucial RBI's with two outs.
In the nightcap, the Dodgers were served a reality check. The Arrows came in put the clamps on a tired and undermanned team. However, being "manned" and fresh probably wouldnt have changed the outcome as the Dodgers fell 6-1. The Arrows got great pitching from two of their studs to hold the Blue to only 2 hits. Mark Buis continued his bid for hitting cleanup by smacking a double, and Matt Tibbs pitched well enough to win. However, the bats just weren't there for him.
The Dodgers will take Memorial weekend off and then take on the Rockies the first weekend of June.
