8/4/2009 - Riverfield 11/12 Girls softball were narrowly defeated this morning 3-2 by Ohio. Riverfield found itself challenged throughout the game. Ohio jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, only to have Riverfield answer in the bottom of the first to tie. Ohio loaded bases in top of 3rd, only to have Jordan Dean make a diving catch behind 3rd to end the inning. Bottom of the 3rd Quincy Gary and Kendra Saunders had back to back doubles to take the lead 2-1. Ohio countered in the top of the 4th tie the game 2-2. Ohio scored one in the top of the 5th to take a 3-2 lead. Riverfield mounted one more effort in the bottom of the 6th. Kyleigh Garner lead off with a bunt single. Riverfield had base runners on 1st and 3rd with Jordan Dean (lead off hitter) batting. Jordan flew out, and Kyleigh Garner was unable to get back to third base to tag up. Lexi Talkington flew out behind third base for the third out of the game.
Advances to the Semi-Finals
8/3/2009 - Riverfield Little League from Anderson, Indiana is one day and two victories away from a birth in the Little League World Series. The young ladies went into tonight's game knowing they had advanced out of pool play. However, the goal was to secure the number two seed in the championship round, as Michigan had already won its pool with a 4-0 record and had only given up three runs compared to 5 for Indiana in the tournament, thereby securing the #1 seed.
Goal accomplished with a 8-0 shutout of Missouri. Jordan Dean, for the fourth consecutive game, was able to allow her team to get out in fount by pitching a scoreless first two innings and recording four strikeouts. She has only given up one run in eight innings during the tournament. Jordan also scored the first run of the game on a first inning base hit by Quincy Gary, who then scored on a base hit by Kelly Irwin. Kyliegh Garner took over the pitching duties in the third inning , pitching four strong innings. Kyliegh recorded 7 K's and did not allow a run, taking her scoreless streak to 12 innings pitched so far in the tournament. She helped herself with a couple of hits in the game and fellow teammates Kendra Saunders and Jordan Dean each had a double.
Riverfield will play on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. local time against the winner of the number 3 vs number 6 seed tomorrow. Teams are still to be determined. A win in that game will place them in the championship at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
8/2/2009 - Riverfield 11/12 Year Old Girls defeated Canyon Lakes South Dakota by a score of 10-0 today. Once again, solid pitching, great defense and timely hitting propelled the Eastsiders from Anderson to a pool record of 3-0 with the final game at 8:00 (9:00 Indiana time) tomorrow night. Jordan Dean with solid pitching for the third straight night stiking out 5 in the first two innings. Kendera Saunders came in and pitched three great innings adding six K's to complete a combined one hitter and 11K's in five innings. The Indiana State Champions are playing some extraordinary softball.
8/1/2009 - Riverfield 11/12 Year Old Girls defeated the talented Ohio team 11-2 tonight. The team had timely hitting with standout pitching from Jordan Dean and Kyleigh Garner to advance to 2-0 in pool play. This win came less than 24 hours after an opening round defeat over Minnesota 17-3. Riverfield will play pool play opponent North/South Dakota Sunday at 2-0. A win Sunday guranteds Riverfield will advance to eliminiation round beginning Tuesday with championship day Wednesday.
The ladies from Riverfield are taking their games one at a time. However, the fairy dust is beginning to look like it may be a reality.
