CHULA VISTA - The Diamond Runners 18 and under softball team went 4-1 to win the Triple Crown Sports Labor Day by the Bay tournament here Sunday.
The Runners beat the Top Prospects of Vista 4-0.
Megan Lerno got the win giving up two hits while striking out four.
Cheyenne Robinson went 1-for-1 with an RBI and Evalyn Cota had an RBI.
The Runners then lost to the O.C. Nighthawks of Yorba Linda, 5-4.
Bethany Lehman went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Kaelin Sprawls went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Cota went 1-for-2 with a double.
The Runners then beat the Magic of Mira Mesa, 9-0 to advance to the finals.
Megan Lerno picked up the win allowing one hit and striking out three while Maci Lerno closed the game striking out one.
For the Runners, Sprawls went 2-for-3 with a homerun, a double and two RBIs, Megan Lerno went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Alex Jones went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI, Cota went 2-for-2, and Taylor Wilcox and Jordan Girard went 1-for-2 with an RBI each.
In the finals the Runners beat the O.C. Nighthawks twice winning the first game 6-1.
Courtnie Ploesch picked up the win in relief.
For the Runners, Jones went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, Cota went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Megan Lerno went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Wilcox had a double and an RBI.
In the second and final game the Runners won 7-1 to win the championship.
Ploesch got the win giving up only two hits and striking out six.

PARK CITY, Utah — The Imperial Valley Diamond Runners 18-and-under softball club finished fifth in the gold division of the Triple Crown Sports World Series here this past week.
The team went 6-3 in the tournament and lost to the eventual champion to finish tied for fifth place.
“Considering the competition that was there, I think we did really well,” Diamond Runners manager Kevin Kerns said.
There were 42 teams in the Diamond Runners’ gold bracket of the tournament that started Tuesday and finalized Saturday.
The team went 3-1 in pool play, kicking off with a pair of wins the first day. The Runners beat the New York Comets, 10-2, then beat the T.C. Stars of Colorado, 2-0.
On Wednesday, the Runners lost to the Pegasus of Utah, 7-1, and beat the Aftershock of Northridge, 3-2.
On Thursday, the Runners moved into double-elimination bracket play, where they started with a loss to the Lady Sharks Gold from San Jose, 3-2.
In the game, Megan Lerno went 2-for-3 with a double. Joanna Larios went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Ciara Fraher, Courtnie Ploesch and Bethany Lehman had a hit each.
On Friday, the Runners beat the Impact from Riverton, Utah, 11-8. Larios went 1-for-4 with a grand slam for four RBIs. Fraher went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Lerno went 2-for-3 with a double. Jordan Girard was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Alex Jones went 2-for-2 and Lehman and Taylor Wilcox each added a hit apiece.
Lerno recorded the win in relief, allowing only one hit in four innings while striking out four.
The Runners then beat the Xtreme Gold from Salt Lake City, 8-7. Larios went 1-for-3 with a two-run, game-winning home run. Johnson went 2-for-4. Lerno went 2-for-4 and Fraher went 2-for-3. Fraher also had the win in relief, giving up six hits in five innings while striking out one.
In the third game, the Runners beat the Sting Gold from Bountiful, Utah, 3-1. Wilcox went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Lerno went 2-for-3 and Ploesch had a double. Ploesch also had the win by going the distance, allowing six hits and striking out three.
In the fourth and final game, the Runners lost to the Stampede Gold from Lakewood, Colo., 5-0. Fraher went 2-for-3 with a double and Larios had a double. Johnson and Ploesch had a hit each.
“I’m very satisfied. We lost our first game in bracket play and fought all the way,” Kerns said. “I was very pleased with how they played.”

Dana Point - The 18-and-under Diamond Runners fast pitch girls' softball team won the Triple Crown Red, White and Blue tournament here on Sunday.
In the bracket-style tournament the Diamond Runners beat Ozone Gold 8-0, and Diamond fast pitch 7-1 to advance to the championship.
In the finals, the Diamond Runners beat Madness Softball 10-0.
For the Diamond Runners, Ciara Fraher went 12-for-20 batting .600 with three home runs and three triples.
Demi Johnson and Courtnie Ploesch batted .437, Megan Lerno batted .500 and Bethany Lehman batted .470.
Once Again, Congratulations Ladies. You all played a great tournament and we are very proud of you.

The Diamond Runners 18-and-under softball team won the Triple Crown New Year’s Desert Challenge this past weekend in Cathedral City.
The team is made up of players from El Centro, Holtville, Imperial and Blythe.
The Diamond Runners kicked off the tournament by losing to the Arizona Roadrunners of Tucson, 9-3, in pool play.
The Runners then beat Black Gold of Signal Hill, 11-0, and Kapu of Indio, 9-1.
On Sunday, the Runners beat R.C. Silver of Rancho Cucamonga, 5-1, and then the SoCal Maniacs of Woodland Hills, 6-0, to advance to the championship.
The Runners then beat Kapu, 7-1, for the championship. Starters Ciara Fraher, Megan Lerno and Courtnie Ploesch combined for 23 strikeouts and five earned runs in the tournament.
Offensively for the Runners in the tournament, Ploesch went 7-for-16 with a triple and four walks.
Fraher went 4-for-13 with an RBI and five walks. Demi Johnson went 9-for-15 with five RBIs and a solo home run. Kaelin Sprawls went 5-for-12 with seven RBIs, a double and a triple. Lerno went 9-for-14 with five RBIs and a three-run home run. Bethany Lehman went 9-for-16 with 10 RBIs and two doubles.
Joanna Larios went 5-for-14 with an RBI. Lexi Angulo had two hits and an RBI. Talia Saikhon had three hits and three RBIs and Alex Tarin had a double in the first game before leaving due to injury.
By winning the tournament, the Runners qualify for the Triple Crown World Series set for July 26-31 in Park City, Utah.

THE DR 16U LADIES PLAYED IN THE TCS CHRISTMAS QUALIFIER THIS PAST WEEKEND AND PLACED 3RD OUT OF 24 TEAMS. MANY OF THESE TEAMS BEING TOP RANKED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. ALSO BECAUSE OF PRIOR COMMITTMENTS OR INJURIES WE PLAYED WITH JUST 10 PLAYERS ON SATURDAY AND ONLY 9 PLAYERS ON SUNDAY.
