NEBRASKA IMPACT VBC: History
IMPACT Volleyball Club started in the 2000/2001 Club Season. Mike Godek, the Club Director, has been involved in club volleyball for approximately 29 years. He started as a player, became a club coach for boys, then girls, and now Club Director. He was the Head Volleyball Coach for Omaha Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska from 2001-2004. His goal was to improve and provide off-season training for his high school players. He was the head volleyball coach at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha during the 2006 high school season and the head volleyball coach for Omaha Northwest High School in 2007. He was the JV coach in 2008 with the Bennington HS program and has been with the Christ the King Volleyball program since 2007. He is currently coaching with Mary Mozena at Weeping Water High School.
Mike obtained his Special Services Teaching Certificate issued by the State of Nebraska by completing the requirements set down by the Nebraska Schools Activities Association.
Mike is an energetic coach with a winning work ethic. IMPACT's teams have traveled to several qualifiers since it's beginning in 2001. Mike qualified his team for the Junior National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah in early July of 2001. In the 2002 season, most of the players on the 18's teams received college volleyball scholarships from their participation in club and their attendance at the national qualifiers.
In the 2007 season, Nebraska Impact 141 won the Northern Lights Qualifier in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the 14 Club Division to qualify for the 2007 USA Volleyball Junior National Tournament.
In the 2008 season, Nebraska Impact 151 won the American Bid at the Great Plains Bid Tournament to qualify for the 2008 USA Volleyball Junior National Tournament which was held in Dallas, Texas.
In the 2009 season, Nebraska Impact qualified three teams for the 2009 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships which was held in Miami, Florida. The 17 Select, 16 Select and 15 Select teams competed.
The Omaha Burke High School volleyball program made a significant improvement through its' players' club involvement and their summer programs. Their 2002 volleyball season was a great success with Burke being ranked in the top 10 in Class "A" Division team rankings.
The 2003 club season proved to be the most challenging year with over 100 girls playing for the club. With the exception of one team, all of Impact's teams (12) attended one or two national qualifiers in 2003. The 2004 and 2005 season consisted of over 130 players and coaches.
During the 2005 season, the 131 and 121 teams were ranked one and two respectively in the Great Plains Region. The 161 and 171 teams were ranked in the top 10.
The 2006 season grew to 150+ players and coaches. The 121 and 131 teams were ranked one and three respectively in the Great Plains Region and finished high at the Colorado Crossroads Qualifier in Denver. Most of Impact's 13 teams attended at least one out of town travel or qualifier tournament.
All of the club's teams will practice at The Courts Volleyball Training Facility, 137th & Giles Road, Omaha.
Teams practice on an average of two to three times a week (two hour sessions) before the season starts in January.
