Illinois Chill SS, Karlie Mellott, Sterling HS Class of 2014, verbally committed to play for Coach Dick Blood and Cornell University of the Ivy League today. Coach Blood commented that "Karlie's left-handed bat and her style of play fit in very well for us, we look for big things from her, continuing the Illinois Chill/Cornell University connection that our current MIF, Jennifer Edwards has filled so well."
"We could not be happier for Karlie and her family, " commented Illinois Chill coach, Pat Morris, "her dedication, commitment, perseverance and attitude will fit in well in the country's toughest academic conference. I have no doubt we will be hearing from Karlie for the next four years on the field and for a long time thereafter once she graduates!"

It's a game of inches. Or in this case, a game of 2 minutes 47 seconds, rain and travel schedules.
Chill in Winners' Bracket of PGF National Qualifier, up 4-2 against Rockers "Mo" after four lead changes in the Championship game of the Winners' Bracket, with 2 minutes 47 seconds left and two outs and Rockers batting when the rains came, suspending the tournament for the day.
Unfortunately, due to travel schedules, the Chill had to hit the road to Colorado, leaving satisfied (but not completely) in another great weekend's performance.
Congratulations Rockers "Mo" on your bid to the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship.

Illinois Chill (Morris) finishes 2d at PGF National Qualifier!
In an exciting tournament, the Chill obtained a berth to the PGF National Championship (Platinum) in Huntington Beach California. The Championship game culminated in a shoot-out with the Beverly Bandits Team Premier-18 U Gold that ended 13-11, and was marked by a sixth inning Chill-surge to take a 2-run lead, followed by a go-ahead response from the Bandits in the top of the 7th, who then fended off a bottom-of-the-7th charge from the never-say-die-Chill who scored and then put the tying run on 2nd and the winning run on 1st before the Bandits came up with excellent defensive plays to end the threat.
Congratulations on another excellent tournament, girls!
