Infant Jesus Track Club

The Infant Jesus Track Club is intended for (but not limited to) elementary school children and serves as an introduction to the sport of Track & Field. It is a year round program, but registration can be by season. Participation in practices and meets is always voluntary and the emphasis is on instruction and fun. Generally speaking, practices are twice a week, and competitions are on the weekend. We participate in events sponsored by CYO, Long Island Track & Field, USA Track & Field, Colgate Games, PAL, K of C, Hershey, and others. You may compete at any level you choose - locally, regionally, or nationally.

The Fall season features Cross Country. Winter is indoor Track & Field. Spring is outdoor Track & Field and is the biggest season with the greatest variety of events. The Summer is just for fun and features Long Island Summer Series meets "under the lights."

We will be starting an Open team which would include High School, College, post college, and Masters athletes. Infant Jesus alumni, as well as anyone else interested should contact Coach for details.

Head Coach, John Martin, has been with the club since 1984, and the head coach since 1993. He has earned Level I and Level II certification from USA Track & Field, as well as New York State certification, and National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Education Program. He is also certified to teach Level I schools and has begun working on Level III (the highest level) in Jumps. In addition to Infant Jesus, he has coached in Three Village Schools, Southampton HS, Shoreham/Wading River HS, Center Moriches HS, anc St. Anthony's HS. He is the Youth Chair for Long Island Track & Field, and was named the USATF Youth Coaches Association 2001 and 2003 "Coach of the Year" for the Eastern Zone. Most recently he was awarded the Long Island Track & Field "Bruce MacDonald Lifetime Service Award" for 2005. He is ably assisted by his wife Diane who is also Level I certified, and Suffolk County High School and USATF Track Officials.  We want to welcome new assistant coach Kathy Guilfoyle who is one of our Alumnae.

The rest of the world calls Track & Field "Athletics" from which comes the term Athlete. Almost every sport involves running, jumping, or throwing, and the best players are called great "athletes". If you want to develop your athletic ability, IJTC is the place to be. You may even decide you like track more than those other sports.
