l. Cadet softball fans should plan on a very exciting team in 2012. The Cadets are blessed with an abundance of talent and won some big games against tough opponents in 2011. Nine varsity starters return from the squad that finished in a tie for fourth in the Conference last year. The Cadets have speed, athleticism, and a strong desire to win. A team with experience and depth should make 2012 an exciting one.
Two seniors return. Paige Weidemann played varsity leftfield last year and was one of our leaders on the team. Burgundy Oelman played centerfield getting 20 hits and batting .270 for the year.
Seven juniors return. Brittney Hammond a first team all conference selection in right field for the 2nd year in a row. Brittney had 52 hits and a .491 average. Breanna Keane another first team all conference selection as catcher. Breanna had 28 hits and a .275 average. Jessi Timm a second team all conference selection at shortstop. Jessi had 26 hits and a .286 average. Lindsay Barnhart another second team all conference selection as pitcher. Lindsay had 27 hits and a .267 average. Lindsay also had a 16-13 record striking out 108. Other varsity starters include Delaney Vierkandt at second base. Delaney had 24 hits and a .238 average. Shelby Wilcox a pitcher with a 1-4 record struck out 14. M.J. Halder seen varsity action at first base before a torn ACL ended her season. M.J. had 5 hits and a .278 average.
Six sophomores return. Shanaya Schutt a second team all conference selection in left field. Shanaya had 35 hits and a .479 average. Taylor Ackerman played varsity third base and had a .238 average. Sophia Wibholm hit .231 on varsity as a D.H. and stole 11 bases. Emily Baker was the J.V. catcher and had a 308 average. Emalee Knipfel played J.V. second base. Maggie Ireland played J.V. rightfield and hit .375.
