LUNGE EXERCISE

This exercise will help to build balance and explosive speed through stretching and conditioning the hamstring muscles.

  • Split the team in half.
  • Have the first group line up along the goal line.
  • On the whistle, the players are allowed 3 to 5 strides (coaches discretion) then they must start a series of lunges unitl they get to the other end of the ice.
  • They would then return to the starting position and switch legs.

Note: A lunge would be with the lead foot until the players thigh is perpendicular to the ice surface with the other leg stretched out behind them.

This is a good variation instead of just doing straight lengths of the ice, but still incorporates some cardio exercise.
