Conference Rules

1. The Heartland Conference is made up of predominately homeschool teams; new teams must be accepted unanimously by all teams currently in the conference.

2. The conference includes Jr. High, JV, and Varsity teams. A small program may elect not to field a JV team

3. Each conference team must schedule two games with all other conference teams, home and away.

4. Age limits are 14 for Jr. High, 16 for JV, and 18 for Varsity. The age-determining date is September 1 before the start of the current season. This is consistent with ICBA guidelines. A violation equals a technical foul.    Rosters with jersey numbers, full names, and birth dates must be turned in for distribution to all conference teams before the first game of the conference season. Exemptions are considered by a unanimous conference vote.

5. No player may play more than 6 quarters per day. Exemptions are considered by a unanimous conference vote.

6. Per IHSAA guidelines, two technicals for a player or coach in a conference game results in suspension for the next conference game. In addition, any player or coach who receives three cumulative technicals in conference games (not counting delay of game or substitution technicals) is suspended for one conference game. Appeals to the entire conference are considered.

7. An All-Conference Varsity team will be selected at the end of the year. Each head coach will nominate five players from opposing teams after viewing the final conference stats. All-Conference players will receive awards.

8. Conference stats are kept for games played, points, field goal percentage (must average at least 3 attempts per game played), free throw percentage (must average at least 1.5 attempts per game played), three-point percentage (must average at least 2 attempts per game played), rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots. Each team turns in an updated Excel sheet of conference stat categories to Jeremy Bialek by email after each conference game. (Teams should specify at the beginning of the season exactly which stats they will not turn in, if any.) Jeremy will send out regular conference updates with overall standings and the top 10-15 players (with jersey numbers and full names) in each stat category. Lew Owens will post standings and stats on the web as he receives them from Jeremy.

9. Trophies last the life of the conference. These awards are for the varsity teams. They include the King of the Conference box and the Heartland Conference Season Champion cup. Both trophies are The King of the Conference box will be displayed at conference games. Each season champion receives a dated plate to insert in the season champion cup, which may be retained when the cup goes to another team at the end of the next season. Conference games are defined by the Heartland Conference Schedule.

10. The 2006-2007 annual conference fee will be determined per program. It will cover the cost of the All-Conference awards and the dated plate for the season champion cup.
