Hampton-Varnville United: Directions to Fields

The directions on this page are the ones given out by the clubs but I have modified some of the ones that I have been too, I have not been to all them. While there is more than one way to get to most of the fields, only one is listed for most of them. If you are not sure about the directions or if you find that they are wrong, please contact me so that I can make the necessary corrections. Barry Whittington
Boyles Field
From Allendale & Barnwell follow Hwy 278 East to Hampton, as you enter Hampton turn right to enter soccer complex before getting to Bi-Lo shopping center.
From Beaufort follow Hwy 21 to Gardens Corner turn left onto Hwy 17 South then right onto Old Sheldon Road a few hundred yards later. Follow to stop sign and turn right, through Yemassee on Hwy 68 West to Hwy 278 in Varnville, follow through Hampton, turn left to soccer complex after passing Bi-Lo and Maxway.
From Walterboro follow Hwy 63 South to traffic light in Varnville and turn right onto Hwy 278 and follow until passing Bi-Lo and Maxway, then turn left into soccer complex.
Ackerman Park

Ansonborough Park
From US 17 South (Ashley River Bridge) get in the far right lane and veer to the right and continue to the right onto Lockwoood Dr., then get into the left lane and turn left at stoplight (Calhoun St.), stay on Calhoun St. all the way until it deadends into the SC Aquarium, turn right on Concord St., Ansonborough Park will be on the right 1/4 mile.
Basil Green
Take Hwy 21 to Beaufort. Just past the Beaufort National Cemetery on your left, take a left onto Rodgers Street. Basil Green is just past the cemetery on the left. (1500 Rodgers Street)
Beaufort Academy
Take 17 south following signs to Beaufort. Turn left onto Highway 21 in Gardens Corner. Stay on Highway 21 business, traveling past the K-Mart, Holiday Inn, National Cemetery, around a 90-degree turn and straight over the old downtown bridge connecting Beaufort with Ladies Island. Go through the first stop light on Ladies Island and take the next left just past Publix Grocery Store. Stay on that road about 2 miles and you will see BA on your right. There is a bathroom and bleachers available.
Cathedral Academy
Follow Hwy 17A until you get to Hwy 642 (Dorchester Road)which will vere off to the right. Follow Dorchester Rd. to Ashley Phosphate Rd. Turn left onto Ashley Phosphate, look for the Cathedral of Praise (Cathedral Academy)on your left and turn in there.
Corrine Jones
Take Hwy. 7 to I-26 East to the Rutledge Avenue exit (#219A). Continue straight on Rutledge for approximately 3/4 mile and turn right onto Maple Street. The field is at the end of Maple Street.
Danny Jones Rec Center

Take I-26 to the East Montague Avenue exit. Travel approximately 1 1/2 miles on East Montague towards Park Circle and take a left onto Mixon Avenue.
Dogwood Park, Goose Creek

Road and cross over I-26. Turn right into Crowfield Blvd and follow it all the way to its entrance on 176. Turn right. Turn left onto Thomason which turns into Liberty Hall Road as soon as it crosses 52. The field is about a mile down the road on the right hand side.

Hampton Park
Take Hwy. 7 to I-26 East to the Rutledge Avenue exit (#219A). Continue straight on Rutledge for approximately 1 1/2 miles. The park is on the right.

Ladies Island Elementary
Take US Hwy. 17 south towards Beaufort/Savannah. When you get to Gardens Corner, turn left on US Hwy. 21 toward Beaufort. If you miss this turn, you will know because US Hwy 17 turns into four lanes once past Gardens Comer. So, you're on US Hwy 21 going into Beaufort. Stay on US Hwy 21 through the business district of Beaufort all the way onto Ladies Island. DO NOT turn onto Remount Road. Apparently, US Hwy 21 has a non-business route through Beaufort. Remount Road is at the intersection where the big city/country administrative complex is. AGAIN, DO NOT turn onto Remount Rd. Even if it says "To Ladies Island", stay on US 21 through the historic downtown Beaufort. Okay, so you stayed on the right road. Once onto Ladies Island, you will go about 2 to 3 miles before coming to an intersection with a blinking light. At this intersection, you will see a sign to Ladies Island Elementary School. Turn right towards the school. We believe this road is called Distant Island Drive. You should find the school a short way down on the left after you've turned right off of Hwy. 21
Long Point, Mt. Pleasant
This is a single field off Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. Once in Charleston get on the Mark Clark (I-526) towards Mount Pleasant. Go over the Cooper and Wando and after the second high bridge, take the Long Point Road exit. Make a left at the stop sign and proceed under the Interstate. About 2 miles down this road (and ½ mile from the intersection with 17N) turn left into Palmetto County Park and follow the road to the clubhouse, pool, tennis courts and soccer field on the left-hand side. The field is visible from the road.

Socastee Recreational Park
Take the Hwy 17 PyPass north around Myrtle Beach, and exit onto Hwy 544 toward Conway. After about 1.5 miles, exit onto Hwy 707 (if you cross the Intercoastal Waterway, you've gone too far). After you go under 544 from the exit, take a right onto Enterprise Road. Socastee Recreational Park will be about two miles down on your left.

Trident Academy
UPDATED 9/17/2002 with 2 options
Take Hwy 17 North and go through Charleston to Mt. Pleasant. After crossing the Cooper River Bridge stay on Hwy 17 N. and go to the 7th traffic light (this includes the emergency lights) and take a left onto Bowman Road. There is a McDonald's, Arby's and a hospital at the intersection. After one-half mile, take a right at the traffic light onto Mathis Ferry Road. After about one mile, take a left onto Whipple Road at Wando High School. After about one-half mile, take a left onto Wakendaw Road at the tennis courts, there is a small green sign with Trident Academy on the right side of the road. Trident Academy is about one-half mile at the end of this road, the field is behind the school.
Take 526 East toward Mt. Pleasant. Exit at Long Point Road and turn left (North). Continue for approximately 1 mile and turn right onto Whipple Road. Go approximately 1/2 mile and turn right onto Wakendaw Road at the tennis courts. Trident Academy is approximately 1/2 mile on the left and the field is behind the school.
Walterboro Soccer Club
The Walterboro Soccer Club is located at the Colleton County Rec. Center, beyond the rec. center office building. Follow Hwy 63 to Walterboro to forth traffic light and turn right on to US 17A. Follow 17A, after passing the National Guard Armory you will come to a fork in the road (a gas station is in the fork), turn to the left. Travel approximately 1 mile and turn left at the sign for the rec. center, turn at the entrance on the left-marked with a sign and follow road to back of rec. center.
