HUSA COMPLEX: Tree & Shrub Donations Needed Please...
HAZLET SOCCER’S FACELIFT YIELDS THE NEED FOR TREE & SHRUB DONATIONS Hazlet United Soccer Association, a non profit club established in 1971, has recently undergone a facelift at their soccer complex located on Green Acres Drive. In addition to changing its club colors to green and white to coincide with those of Raritan High School and the Township of Hazlet, the Association, in collaboration with the Mayor, Township Committee and the Dept. of Public Works, has redeveloped the entrance parking lot, the entire road within the complex and the back parking lot.  The township has been instrumental in delivering road millings to the complex, allowing the club to repave the sides of the roadway and the dirt parking lot in the back of the complex. Also, hours and hours of volunteer manpower, and the tireless efforts of the employees of Public Works, have cleared away mountains of brush, dead tree limbs, poison ivy, poison sumac, vines and vines and vines (did I mention vines). In connection with this endeavor, the roadway shoulder has been landscaped with mulch delivered by Public Works. The club was also fortunate to receive a substantial donation from Terminix, which proceeds were used to install a stockade fence approx. 500 feet long along the entire road. All of these changes have improved the overall appearance of the front parking lot, entrance road and the back parking lot, making it aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly, safer for the children chasing errant soccer balls. The club expects to receive more millings to complete the entire back parking lot. This will produce approximately 80 more badly needed parking spaces. As a result of these improvements, the club is now looking to plant approximately 8 new trees and 24 “deer-resistant” shrubs in the front of the complex and along the roadway. We are currently asking individuals and businesses to make a donation of $150 towards the cost of 1 new tree or 4 new shrubs. In appreciation of their donation, we will post a permanent sign with their name on the stockade fence in proximity to their tree/shrubs.  On behalf of our family, I would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to Mayor Jim DiNardo and the Township Committee members, as well as Public Works Director Dave Rook and his employees for all of their hard work and support. Please help us reach our GOAL (pardon the pun). To make a donation, please contact President Joe Pasqualetto at 732-739-8808.
