Welcome to River Rats Lacrosse!

This is the home of Ann Arbor Huron High School's fastest growing sport!  This site includes the whole boy's program, from Freshmen up to Varsity.  The 2008 Boy's team will mark Huron's 13th year with a program.  The Boy's Varsity finished off the 2007 season ranked 21th in the state in Division I. The 2008 Varsity Captains are: David Monroe, Scott Krystiniak, and Kristoff Wennersten.

Please visit the "Schedules" link or see the bottom of the this page for an abbreviated list of our upcoming games.

November Newsletter

November monthly update on Lacrosse happenings in our Lacrosse Program:
  • From what I understand, we had a JV and a Varsity team going to the US Lacrosse Annual 7 on 7 Tournament on November 11th. The teams are comprised of 15 players each. Several parents were involved in organizing this; thank you. They have done a great job. I'm sure the guys had fun.
  • I have the spring schedule for all three levels finished. I have been working diligently with the AD and our Girls head coach to eliminate any scheduling complications, and to maximize the amount of time in the stadium for everyone, including the JVB team. You’ll notice several changes to the schedule this year. Games will be mostly played on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This is part of an effort with the Athletic Department to reduce transportation costs on weekends. A bus trip on a weekend can cost more than $1000 depending on the distance. This is why only one away game is on a Saturday. You’ll also notice several new or more local teams on the schedule. This is part of an effort to work into what is expected to be a close representation of what our conference schedule will be next year. As you may or may not know, Huron has moved into the SEC this year in most sports, with lacrosse likely to follow next year. I apologize to a few of the players I told a few weeks ago that the schedule would be up soon; I ran into a couple of scheduling issues. In order to avoid any misunderstandings on the schedule this year, the http://www.highschoolsports.net website maintained by the Athletic Department will be the source for the schedule. I will post the schedule today on our site, but its crazy trying to maintain consistency, so any discrepancies will default to the AAH website. Also, go to the site, and sign up for email updates! This is the quickest way to get updates on changes or cancellations on the schedule!
  • Look for the titles of the levels of the program to change. The JVB (beginner) team will become the JV Green team, and the JVA (experienced) team will become the JV Gold team.
  • Practice starts March 10th. Like last year, the following is probably what will happen: Expect the kids to be mostly indoors in a gym the first week. Last year we practiced indoors 6-7:15pm. I won’t know the exact schedule until the season is almost upon us, but you’ll know as soon as I do. The first week is tryouts. We will be assessing the kids’ skills to match them up with like skill levels to form the teams. The plan has changed slightly this year: the goal is to have three evenly-numbered teams, based on skill level and physical development. I kept too few on the varsity team last year, and just a couple of injuries hurt us severely. Likewise, there were too many players on the JVA and JVB teams last year, and some players’ playing time suffered because of it.
  • We will be doing conditioning prior to the start of the season (January). We will set some conditioning goals for the guys to train toward. (ex: 2 miles in X minutes; X reps in 1 minute in agility drills). This will start to take place in mid-January and run until the first week of March for those not involved in Winter Sports. The varsity captains are also expecting to start running skills practices as well. See one of them (Scott Krystiniak, Kristoff Wennersten, Dave Monroe) for updates.
  • Expect to see more updates on our website (see address below in my signature). If anyone has digital photos to get put on the website, please send them! MORE CURRENT PHOTOS ARE GREAT!
  • Varsity Captains’ Parents have typically set up some indoor time in the winter at Wide World of Sports over by the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Look for updates from captains or parents on that.
  • I will be heading down to Columbus, OH for a coaches clinic on December 2nd. The speaker lineup is impressive, so I hope to learn a lot!

If anyone has questions about any of the above or other topics, please feel free to email me. Also, if you have the emails of new players or their parents coming in, please send them to me so I can keep them in the loop!
