Newkirk Native Asks for Help Sending his Team to Nationals
Coach James Grotenhuis, son of Rosa and Lloyd - raised of Newkirk, and Floyd
Valley and Northwestern Graduate, has been coaching ever since he graduated
from high school in 1987.
While studying to be a teacher, 1988-1990, he volunteered time to coach an
area tournament basketball team from Hospers, IA. In 1990 and 1991, he
assisted his former high school baseball coach, Mike Aalbers, Alton, IA,
with The Maurice Orange City Floyd Valley Dutchmen Junior High Football
Team.
Shortly after receiving his B.A. in Elementary Education from Northwestern,
he was hired at Grantham Middle School and Coached Football and Basketball
three years for the Panthers (1992-1995). Jim was promoted by Bob Alpert to
Coach High School Football and Baseball in 1995. He continued coaching
football for the next 5 years, as well as girl's soccer for three years.
In the year 2000, Coach Grotenhuis resigned all his coaching duties for
family reasons. He got involved in coaching his daughters' softball teams.
From 2002 - present, he has spent much of his time coaching in organizations
such as: 2001 NW45 Girls Softball, 2002-present the Humble Girls Softball
League, 2004-2005 the 8u Texas Stars, 2004-2005 Texas Showdown, 2006-present
Deer Park TPS, and 2006-present Humble Cobras. He was hired to coach
softball at MacArthur High School in the year 2004 and continues to juggle
tournament ball and high school ball, developing the skills needed to be a
true softball winner.
Jim's proudest moments have been coaching his youngest daughter's softball
team, the Humble Cobras. The team has captured 17 championships this year.
The most prized to date, has been the USFA Texas State Championship, June
22, 2008. They desire to win the National contest next month in Panama
City, Florida.
Jim is currently in need of some assistance in sending his youngest
daughter, Lillie's team to nationals. Anything would help, it's very
expensive. They have been able to come up with most of what they need, but
we have some less fortunate players on our team that could really benefit
from any generousity. Its non-profit HGSL Humble Cobras 8u, tax id
26-0138170.
Anyone interested in helping this team with funding may contact Jim at
713-705-9810 or check out the website at
