HTRBA Little League: Safety

PLAY IT SAFE, HTRBA !!!!
Safety is critical to all of us at HTRBA Little League.  In fact, every year our Board of Directors approves and submits HTRBA's Safety Plan to Little League and District 12 Headquarters.  This plan is a key component in ensuring that HTRBA is a fun and SAFE place to play baseball and includes important information including training, upgrades, code of conduct, background checks for volunteers, Injury reporting and tracking, equipment inspections and the proper usage of our facilities.

If you like to get information regarding Little League's pacesetting effort surrounding the safety of our children, a good place to start is the Little League Website- http://www.littleleague.org/programs/asap/newsletters.asp. Here you will find information regarding Little League's development of ASAP ( A Safety Awareness Program). With the help of corporate sponsors Musco Lighting and AIG Insurance Companies, ASAP has created a network of more than 5600 safety officers working together for safety.

Please check back for important updates and in the meantime if you have any suggestions on how we can improve safety of our facilities, please call me at your earliest convenience!!!!!

Be Prepared! HTRBA's 5 Basic Safety Steps

1)       Have all parents/guardians as well as coaches complete a LITTLE LEAGUE MEDICAL RELEASE FORM (provided in your folder).  These forms provide you with key contact information in the event that an accident occurs. You are required to keep these forms in your possession during all practices and games.

2)

If a need arises to call 911 for any reason, our address is 10 Ferndale Avenue, Mercerville, NJ 08619.  The phones are located in the indoor facility, concession stand, meeting room and Field A press box.

3)

In the event that a player/coach is injured, please notify the Safety Officer (Tony Rossetti) as soon as possible ‘but not before’ you have ensured that the injured person receives the appropriate medical attention.  If Tony is not available, please leave me a message and contact Dave Edwards (President).

4)

In the event that any visitor to the HTRBA complex is injured, it is the responsibility of the Manager of the Field Duty team or Board Duty Officer to notify me with their name and phone number so I can contact them.

5)
Once all notification has been made regarding the events listed in #2 & #3, it is the responsibility of the Manager or Board Member to complete an INJURY/INCIDENT TRACKING REPORT and the I LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL ACCIDENT NOTIFICATION FORM (provided in your folder).  As a requirement of Little League, these reports must be submitted to me within 48 hours of the incident!  Please leave the completed reports in my mailbox in the practice facility.

If you need additional forms, contact Tony Rossetti  or access the following website
www.littleleague.org/programs/asap/index.asp(under the ASAP Forms and publications section of that page).

SAFETY TIPS FOR ALL OF US TO BE AWARE OF!!!!!!!!!!
We want to remind everyone to be diligent in preserving the safe environment that we all work very hard to provide. Here are some safety reminders that all Coaches, Parents and Players need to be aware of…
1) There is NO on-deck circle in Little League.. The only player allowed to take swings before their at bat, is the 1st batter of every inning. Further, this should be done in close proximity to the batter's box. Even with this, Coaches need to be cognizant of the surroundings
2) Players are not allowed to TOUCH their bats until they are going up to bat.... Coaches need to be diligent on this one!!!!
3) No Player is allowed outside of the dugout until they are going up to bat.... The bench Coach needs to ensure that they run an organized dugout
4) No Siblings are allowed in the dugout at ANY time...THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS
5) Players who are "on-deck or on-double deck" should all have their helmets on
6) If you do not have enough coaches, you can ask any of the parents to assist you for that one game. However, we recommend that a Manager or Coach maintain the bench Coaches' job.
7) A player should not be placed in a position where he/she cannot protect themselves.
As a reminder, All of these items are in our Manager's Handbook, Safety Plan and on our website...If we work together to protect our children, we all win!!

Play it Safe, HTRBA!
