PoPa Goaltending
Drill of the Week, Goalie Coordinator Program. Since 1998, this goalie website has been providing goaltending and coaching supportfor goalies in a way that was never been possible before. Coach Popa's Game of the Week Analysis will give each goalie, head coach and goalie coach ongoing reinforcement throughout the entire season by watching, analyzing, and understanding what the goalies at the most competitive levels, including
college goalies and pro goalies, are doing on a regular basis.
Goaltending - Paddle Down vs Paddle Up
While an effective move most of the time, goalies may use this too often, and in the wrong circumstances. Paddle down is sometimes called smothering the shooter because the shooter must be tight to the goalie. There must be defensive pressure to prevent that shooter from moving across the net.
The problem most often is created by a left-hander, coming out of the goalie's left corner, or vice versa if the goalie is a ?lefty.? Without defensive pressure, as shown by the red targets in the animated picture, the shooter may move laterally, creating net to score on the far side.
