EVALUATIONS - **UPDATE**

Evaluations will be held on Sunday February 14, 2010 in the gymnasium at Ramtown Elementary School. All players ages 9 & 10, or 11 yr olds who played in the Minor Division last Spring should attend. For the 11 year olds, if you do not come to Evaluations you will not be able to be drafted up into the Majors. Please try to attend at the following times although you may come at any time if you can not make it with your assigned age group:
9 yr olds - 9 a.m.
10 yr olds – 10 a.m.
11-12 yr olds  - 11 a.m.
If you are going to be 12 yrs old by 4/30/10 and you played in the Minor Division last season you also must attend Evaluations. If you are 12 and played in the Majors last season, you do NOT need to attend.
 
Please understand, Evaluations are an important tool used by Little League to assist in placing children in the appropriate Divisions as well as helping our Managers to create fair and balanced teams.
**If your child is 13 or older as of 4/30/10 Evaluations are not necessary.

If you have not registered your child for the Spring season and would still like to do so,  please download a Registration form from the Forms and Handouts section on the left and complete the form and mail it to the address below. Please include 2 checks 1) for Registration for the correct amount (do not forget to add $75 for raffle tickets and $5 for KidSafe) and 2)$150 Volunteer Bond that is returned when you work one-shift in the snack stand (be sure to indicate when you would be available to work):

Opening Day is April 10th at Howell South Little League - let's keep our fingers crossed for good weather! We will be having special guests join us for the opening ceremony and the parade. Important: Managers and Coaches

If you plan on Managing or Coaching at Howell South Little League in 2010 it is important to make sure you are both KidSafe approved and NYSCA certified or you will not be permitted on the fields with the children of HSLL. In order to verify your KidSafe status, please check http://www.ksrc.us/ (Howell Township Recreation). Your status MUST be either A (Approved) P (Pending) or N (New). If not, you are not permitted to coach. To become KidSafe Approved you must be fingerprinted using the Sagem Morpho Fingerprint Procedures on the KidSafe homepage.

In order to become NYSCA certified, you must go to http://nays.org  and go through the proces for Initial Membership (if you have never been NYSCA certified) or Continuing Membership if you need to renew.

Howell South Little League will NOT be responsible for reminding you to have your KidSafe and NYSCA certifications up to date. Failure to be properly certified prior to Opening Day will nullify your Coaching privileges. Any questions regarding your status should be directed to hsll07731@yahoo.com.

Thank you for another great Fall season!

The Fall season wrapped up this past weekend (11/8) and it was a beautiful day for baseball. Unfortunately there weren't enough of those beautiful days but hopefully eveyone enjoyed their season. We are already planning and preparing for the Spring 2010 season so we hope everyone registers to play and has another great season at Howell South Little League.

Due to the heavy rain all games at Howell South Little are cancelled for today, November 1st. 

 

 Fall Ball 2009

Volunteer Requirement

HSLL does not collect a Volunteer Bond from parents for the Fall season however parents are still required to work at least two (2) hours in the snack stand during the Fall Season. Below is how we will handle the volunteer schedule this season:

During fall ball in the past we ask that each manager arrange a schedule to have a parent volunteer in the snack stand each week. For just the first week we will keep it the same as last year, so we need each coach to have one (1) parent volunteer for this week during their games. However the 11am game and 3:15pm, in the Minor League, we ask that the managers get two (2) parents from each team to help out -- for this week only. Managers we ask that prior to the game that your coverage in the snack stand is set up. We will have parents sign in, so we can track each teams support.

Here is where we will change things around after the first week with your help:

As we move forward I would like to have the parents sign up for their times that work for them rather have the coaches worry all the time.  We will have a sign up sheet in the snack stand that each parent can sign up to volunteer the two hours that is required. We would appreciate it if all managers could notify the parents to stop by the snack stand to coordinate a time that fits into their schedule this weekend.

End of Season Message 

Here we are, at the end of another great year at Howell South Little League. At the Picnic on August 2nd we will be electing new Board Members so we would like to take a minute to thank the Board Members who worked so hard over the past year to make Howell South Little League such a great place for all of our children. Just a quick mention of some of the great accomplishments over the past year:

  • Enhanced snack stand to include menu items such as french fries, mozzarella sticks, cheese steaks, fresh breakfast sandwiches and many other items
  • Replaced old Soda Machines in snack stand with brand new machines
  • Added a new Slushy Machine
  • Purchased and installed a new batting cage
  • Purchased and installed wind screens on 4 fields
  • Painted the bathrooms and snackstand
  • Reconditioned, seeded and fertilized all 5 fields
  • Added new weighted tarps for the pitchers mound and home plate on 4 fields
  • Hosted the 13 year old All Star tournament
  • Hosted 12 All Star games at HSLL

This list does not take into account the incredible amount of work done every day to cut the grass, empty the garbage pails (a job that seems impossible to stay on top of!!), run the snackstand, prepare the fields and many, many other unseen but necessary jobs. So again, THANK YOU to those who have given their time to serve our League!

2009 Picnic

Howell South Little League's annual picnic will be held on Sunday, August 2nd from 4-7pm. There will be lots of music, food and games for everyone. All families of HSLL are invited to join us!! Trophies for all players ages 5-12 will be given out and Fall Ball Registration will be held all day. Additionally, we will be holding elections for the 2009-2010 Board of Directors. We hope you can come and enjoy the day with us!  

 

There are 18 people on the Ballot for election to the HSLL Board of Directors and only 8 spots available. We will post the members of the new Board on Monday, August 3rd. Please come to the Picnic and vote!! 

 

2009 Comments and Upcoming Events

The Spring 2009 season is quickly coming to an end so we would like to thank all of the players, parents and coaches who worked so hard to make this a truely memorable season!  We are making final decisions on this years picnic and hope to have an announcement soon. At the picnic we will present trophies to all kids from Tee Ball through the Major Division, we will kick off registration for Fall Ball and we will be holding elections for the new Board of Directors. If anyone is interested in running for election to the Board please send an email with your intentions to hsll07731@yahoo.com. All emails must be received no later than Wednesday, July 15th. Keep in mind the Board of Directors works 12 months a year to plan, prepare and run both the Spring and Fall seasons as well as host District and Sectional All Star games. We encourage anyone interested in helping to improve our League and make Little League an even better experience for the children of Howell to run for election!  

  

 

HSLL Snack Stand Improvements Continue!

HSLL is proud to announce we have upgraded the options available at our snack stand and hope everyone supports this vital piece of our League. This past Saturday (4/18) marked the first time we have provided expanded menu options that included:

  • Cheese Steaks
  • Sausage and Peppers
  • Grilled Cheese
  • Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese

And this is just the start. We will have new and different specials every Saturday - all made FRESH!! We hope you consider trying the new menu selections and give us some suggestions if you would like to see something we haven't offered. Thanks and we'll see you at the fields!!

 

Opening Day 2009

Opening Day was a great day at Howell South Little League! The weather was a little chilly but thankfully the rain stopped long enough for us to get the parade, opening ceremony and a full schedule of games played. We would like to thank all those parents who worked tirelessly to get the fields ready for our kids to play!

      We would also like to thank 1st Lt. Brian Brennan for joining us at the fields and throwing out the first pitch. It was an emotional day for everyone watching and we appreciate his service and sacrifice to our country.

   

 **2009 Little League Rule Changes**

Little League International has modified the rule concerning bats that are permitted to be used at all levels of Little League. Below is a quick recap of the changes but you should feel free to review these changes and any other changes at their website www.littleleague.org :

Junior Division - Rule 1.10 now states the maximum diameter bat permitted will be 2 5/8 inches (previously 2 3/4 inches).

Major Division and below - bat shall be no longer than 33 inches long and no more than 2 1/4 inches in diameter. All non-Wood bats must be printed with a BPF (Bat Performance Factor) of 1.15 or less. If the BPF is not printed on the bat, the bat will not be permitted to be used.

These changes are not HSLL changes, they come directly from Little League International and are required at all Little Leagues around the world. Please be aware of the guidelines and email any questions you have to hsll07731@yahoo.com.

 

Important - Managers and Coaches!

Anyone interested in Managing or Coaching during 2009 at HSLL needs to be sure they have been Approved by KidSafe (fingerprinting and background check) as well as NYSCA. Please check your KidSafe status at www.ksrc.us and be sure you have a valid NYSCA card that can be produced when requested. If you need to be fingerprinted please follow the directions for Sagem Morpho Fingerprint Procedure on the KidSafe website. If you need to simply renew your NYSCA certification please do so at http://www.nays.org/. If you would like to be certified for the first time, please schedule an appointment with Randy Stratton by emailing rstratt@optimum.net . Please be aware that anyone who has not been Approved by KidSafe or does not have a valid NYSCA card prior to Opening Day will NOT be allowed on the fields until they obtain the proper approval. NO EXCEPTIONS. Thanks.

Congratulations to all three teams and to all the children of Howell South Little League. We are proud of all the players in our League and we look forward to seeing you for Fall Ball! 

 

All Star selections will be going on soon (June 15th or later for sanctioned tournaments). Each team will only have 13 players (the maximum allowed) so there will be many qualified, talented players not on one of the teams. If that happens, we ask everyone to remember the difficult tasks managers have in narrowing down the players to just 13 and we hope you will still support the team selected. Good luck to everyone involved!

KidSafe 

KidsSafe procedures can be found at http://www.ksrc.us/. Please be familiar with the steps required to get fingerprinted and be sure to check the Honor Roll to verify you are A (Approved) or P (Pending) or your coaching privileges will be suspended by Howell Township. Keep in mind, KidSafe was hired BY THE TOWNSHIP to assist in running background checks - this is not a Howell South Little League requirement or process. We simply enforce with our coaches what is provided by KidSafe and the Township. Any discrepancies need to be resolved between you and KidSafe directly.

The Snack stand schedule is posted in the Snack Stand. If you are unsure when you are scheduled to work please check the schedule. Failure to work your scheduled shift will result in your Volunteer Check being cashed. Thank you for your understanding and support.

 

 

 

Howell South Little League will be selling new, Airflow McGregor helmets in the snackstand for $20. They will come in 3 colors and are really nice, safe helmets. Additionally, we will be selling Tee Shirts and Sweat Shirts at the snack stand. Please stop by to see what's available beginning Opening Day.

 

 

Our Board of Directors has some new faces on it. Some of our members have decided to step down after years of dedicated service to our league. We'd like to thank Joe Anicic and Antoinette Nappi for doing an outstanding job during their time with us. Howell South Baseball owes a lot to both of these individuals for making our league a success.

Little League International sets all rules local Little Leagues must abide by and enforce. These rules can be found in the 2008 Official Regulations and Playing Rules (the 'Green Book'). Additionally, HSLL has "House Rules" that have been instituted to fit the needs of our League. These House Rules as well as our League Constitution and By-Laws can also be found on the Forms & Handouts tab.

 

 

 

 

General Policies at HSLL 

  • Please refrain from parking on the grassy areas behind the Minor and Junior fields at our complex in Deerfield Park. It is a safety hazard to the children who play in the park and there is always the danger of a batted ball hitting a car. 
  • Howell South Little League field is a NO SMOKING complex.  We are trying to promote a healthy environment for our children therefore smoking will not be permitted beyond the snack stand. If you must smoke while at the fields, please do so on the parking lot side of the snack stand.
