Huntsville Spring Club Baseball League is a non-profit organization. It is an independent organization of baseball teams formed according to the boundaries of middle school districts in the city of Huntsville, Alabama. The organization may unofficially be referred to as "Middle School Baseball" because it is a baseball program for boys of eligible age in seventh and eight grades. Huntsville Spring Club Baseball is not a program of Huntsville City Schools, of any individual school, or of any other recreation or athletic organization. Our objective is to provide a competitive baseball program for eligible 7th and 8th grade students who attend Huntsville City Schools.

Member teams are Chapman, Challenger, Covenant Christian Academy,Decatur, Hampton Cove (7th and 8th grade teams), Holy Spirit, Huntsville, Mountain Gap,and Whitesburg (two teams).

Games are played at Brahan Springs, John Hunt, Mastin Lake, Decatur, and Sandhurst Parks on Saturdays and Sundays. Our season starts on the 23th of February and continues through the 13th of April. Saturday game start times are 9:00am,11:00am and 2:00pm. Sunday games start at 2:00pm. Some weekday games will be played.

2009 Master Game Schedule Posted

The 2009 Master Game Schedule has been posted to our site.  Team managers need to review their schedules to confirm that their are no errors from the hard copy of the schedule distributed earlier.  Please report any errors to KirbyG@aol.com so I can make the corrections to our site.  Each team has an Assistant Webmaster assigned who has the ability to make updates or changes to your team pages.  If you have trouble posting scores to the site an alternative method is to email KirbyG@aol.com with the results and I'll post them to the site to update standings.  Thanks, Kirby

2005 Season Rule Additions

1. Use of Extra-player (EP) was approved. The use of an EH is optional. An Extra Hitter (EH) will be allowed. This will give a team a 10-player line-up that must be declared before the start of the game and used the remainder of the game. The player in the EH position, while not actually playing a defensive position, will be treated as though they are for substitutions purposes. The re-entry rule applies for the EH.

(Baker is the EH and batting 2nd. Charles is the catcher and batting 3rd. Baker can become the catcher and Charles the EH. Both players would remain in their original batting order. All players can move freely in defensive positions - the EH is considered a defensive position.)

2. The NFSHSA rule also allow a DH. This rule reads;
Rule 3-1.4 A hitter may be (not mandatory) designated for any one starting player (not just a pitcher) and all subsequent substitutions for that player in the game. A starting defensive player cannot be listed a the DH in the starting line-up. A DH for said player shall be selected prior to the start of the game, and his name shall be included on the lineup cards presented to the umpire-in-chief and to the official scorer. Failure to declare a DH prior to the game precludes the use of a DH in that game.   If a pinch hitter or a pinch runner for the DH is used, that player becomes the new DH. The player who was the DH may reenter as the DH under the re-entry rule. A DH and the player for whom he is batting are locked into the batting order. No multiple substitutions may be made that will alter the batting rotation. The role of the DH is terminated for the remainder of the game when:

A. The defensive player, or any previous defensive player for whom the DH batted, subsequent bats, pinch hits or pinch-runs for the DH; or

B. The DH or any previous DH assumes a defensive position.

3. The bat rule was also approved; minus 9 is now acceptable.

Pitching Restrictions

Our Pitching Limitations are adapted from
Babe Ruth rules. The following pitching limitations apply:
a. A pitcher may pitch no more than seven (7)innings per calendar week.
    i. This applies to all games: regular, exhibition, and makeup.
ii. One pitch constitutes an inning.
b.The calendar week is Saturday through and including Friday.
c. A pitcher must have two (2) calendar days rest between assignments
if he pitches in more than three (3) innings.
d. Games in which an inelgible pitcher has been used, as specified
above, shall be declared a forfeit.

Please make sure that our game play adheres to these rules. Any
questions, please give me a call. Thanks, Kirby
