High Point Lions football and cheerleader teams have began their 18th season. Pop Warner begins its 80th season as the only National Football Youth and Cheerleading Program in the United States. Many professional football players started out in Pop Warner. Worldwide more than 300,000 kids are part of the Pop Warner Little Scholars program, of which, 150 participated in the Lions. Participants range in age from five to fifteen, with the majority in the eight to thirteen age ranges.
Flag football, tackle football and cheerleading are divided into six divisions. Players for each division are determined by age and weight, with provisions older but lighter players. For football, no more than 35 players will be assigned to a division and a maximum of 20 cheerleaders per division.
Pop Warner is an organization which emphasizes academic excellence and athletics. Athletes must demonstrate satisfactory classroom progress each year in order to compete. Keeping the program safe and fun for all participants is among our highest priorities.
Pop Warner partners with the NFL, the NFL players, Walt Disney World and other major corporate sponsors. Practices and home games are held at High Point Central High School. PRACTICE BEGINS on August 1, 2009 , with the regular season ending in mid-October. Come join the Lions as we embark on another successful season of quality football, cheerleading and fun.
