This is a reminder that by now you should have returned your child’s uniform to your coach. All coaches have to return everything to me this Saturday at Highland between 10am and 4pm.
Again – please keep the socks and the hats (compression shirts for those on the rep teams).
Coaches, here is your check list before coming to Highland this Saturday – Please make sure you have everything before you arrive:
-
All uniforms – including all jersey’s, pants and belts;
-
The bin the uniforms came in;
-
All baseball gear;
-
All left over baseballs;
-
Any remaining umpire fees;
-
Any leftover line cards and pitch count sheets;
-
Pitch counter;
-
KEYS – especially those who have light keys for Eisenhauer and Range – these are under deposit on my credit card with HRM;
-
Your green man-purse;
-
Coaches t-shirts and hats are yours to keep.
Parents – you have had almost an entire month to pick one evening and return uniforms to your coach's home. There is still one more week to please look after this task. Coaches have committed the entire summer to coaching your children and they should not have to make the trip to your home to pick it up and it most definitely should not fall to myself to do it yet it seems every year it seems that I do just that – spend an entire day running around chasing down uniforms because a coach tried for a whole month to get one uniform back. Please, lets all work together and get everything completed by this Saturday.
“Hey Holly, I can’t remember who my child’s coach was” – all coach's contact info is posted on the HP website under the individual divisions that are listed on the left hand side.
Since you are heading to the website – check out the three slideshows currently posted on the main page. The Peewee AAA, the Mosquito AA and the Mosquito Gators have captured some great shots of ball being played this summer – thumbs up to Diane Wilbur, Barb Brophy and Craig MacIntosh for making them.
I am still taking photos – feel free to drop by on Saturday if you have some burned to a disk. I also
will have the comic books and the year-end medals that I handed out at the skating if you want to come and grab those as well.
Holly
Wednesday, August 31
With the end of ball season comes the giant task of getting all the uniforms back from players.
T-Ball - your T-shirt and Ball hats are yours to keep!!
All house league teams are to return their jerseys and pants (and belts if HPBA issued) - hats are yours to keep.
All rep teams are to return vests, pants and belts (compression shirts, hats and socks are yours to keep).
It is the COACH'S responsibility to collect the uniforms back from all players - parents, please drop your uniforms off to your coach - if they are not home, leave it in a plastic grocery bag with your name on it and hang it on their door. When coaches have the complete set returned, they can deliver them to Holly either at her house or the shed at Highland.
PLEASE DO NOT RETURN A PARTIAL SET OF UNIFORMS EXPECTING HOLLY TO TRY AND TRACK DOWN THE REMAINING PIECES!! THEY WERE GIVEN TO COACHES AS A COMPLETE SET AND IT IS EXPECTED THAT THEY COME BACK INTO OUR HANDS AS A COMPLETE SET.
Thank you for your cooperation.
ps - if you come across an old uniform from previous years, we'll take that back too - just pass it along to your coach!!

Below is some information on a clinic that one of our dads, Michel Ladouceur, is putting on. Michel’s love and passion is for softball – but he and I both recognize that many of the skills can be carried over into both games Both of Michel’s daughters played with HP this year – Katheryne was on our Bantam AAA team and won a bronze medal as part of team Nova Scotia at the Bantam Girls Nationals. Isabelle was on the Mosquito House Gators. If you are able to take part I encourage all of you to do so – Michel is a great coach!
Please email Michel if you are interested – his contact information is below.

From time to time, it is necessary to cancel a game for one reason or another, most often due to not having enough players to field a team. The following is a list of WHAT TO DO when you have to cancel a game:
- First and foremost - contact the other coach and make sure you receive confirmation that they know the game is cancelled. Do not just call and leave them a message or send an email and assume he/she gets it on time - ask them to call or email you to let you know they received the message.
- Contact your Umpire Scheduling Coordinator to cancel the umpire. If you do not cancel the umpire and he/she shows up to the field, you will be responsible to pay them their umpire fees.
- Susan & Neil Gaskell for Sr. Rookie, Mosquito House and Mosquito Girls - drewg@eastlink.ca / 835-1156
- Graeme Benjamin for Mosquito Rep, PeeWee House, PeeWee Girls, PeeWee Rep, Bantam House, Bantam Girls and Midget A - graemebenjamin@gmail.com / 460-8827
-
Cancel your field booking with the Field Booking Coordinator giving as much notice as possible making the field available for others to use:
- Barb Brophy for all HPBA fields - barbbrophy@bellaliant.net
It is the responsibility of the cancelling team to contact the opposing coach to reschedule the game beginning with booking the field at a mutually agreed upon date and time, followed by scheduling umpire(s).

CBC News Nova Scotia in collaboration with Baseball Nova Scotia will be producing a Nova Scotia Athlete of the Day segment between 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
This segment featuring young athletes began last year with Soccer Nova Scotia and was called Soccer Stars. Many viewers asked, “Why not include other sports like baseball?” So we are happy to include young baseball players in our Young Athlete of the Day segment, along with the soccer players, this summer and into the fall on CBC News Nova Scotia at 5. From Monday to Friday, we will feature the Young Athlete of the Day (up to age 17) on the show. We’ll randomly select the athlete to appear on CBC News Nova Scotia at 5.
In order to participate here's the information we need about each player:
• Name
• Age
• Hometown
• Team
• Position
• A jpeg photo of the player in their team uniform
Please forward your player’s photo and information to greg.guy@cbc.ca
Above is an example of the player’s segment that CBC News Nova Scotia featured last summer with the Soccer Stars. The baseball player’s photo will be similar and will be called Athlete of the Day.
When applying for the program please include your email address so we can contact you in advance and let you know when your young athlete will be featured on the news show.
Let’s work together to shine a spotlight on the young Nova Scotians playing their sport of choice in our province. Don’t Forget to watch CBC News Nova Scotia at 5 on television or at www.cbc.ca/ns

With the arrival of baseball (and rainy) season, there is also the big question:
"What do I do in the event of rain??"
If you are scheduled to play a game or have a practice on a day it is raining (or has rained), it is your responsibility to call the HRM field line 490-7100 - we are in the Western Region - DIRT INFIELDS.
You can also check the HRM Field Conditions website - they usually update their site around 3pm on weekdays and 7am on weekends:
http://www.halifax.ca/rec/field_conditions.asp.
If the fields are closed, there is NO baseball - period.
Any use of HRM facilities when fields are closed will result in fines and possible loss of future scheduling privileges.
For those playing at The Les Mayo (Payzant's) or Windsor Junction (LWF-WJCC) fields, they are privately owned and operated. Call the Sackville Rain Line at 865-5586 after 4:00 PM to find out whether these fields are opened or closed. These fields may still be open even if HRM Fields are closed. You can also check the LWF website at www.leaguelineup.com/LWF - or the Sackville Minor Baseball website at www.eteamz.com/SMB - they both post whether their fields are open or closed.
Weir Field is operated by Springfield Lake Recreation. Check their website www.springfieldlakerec.com for conditions at Weir.
ATTENTION ALL COACHES
Prior to the start of the upcoming baseball season as well as throughout the season, please check to make sure the HPBA-issued baseball equipment in your gear bags is in good working order and that all of the pieces are accounted for (i.e. catcher's gear from Sr. Rookie level and up, bats, balls, etc.)
If you have any problems with your baseball equipment, please contact our Equipment Manager, Kevin Borgel at 835-9818 or 981-4944 or email him at kevinborgel@eastlink.ca as soon as you discover a problem.
2011 Field Booking Schedule now available!! Practice times are limited to 2-hour timeslots.
Please note that if you book a field time and aren't able to use it, contact Barb Brophy so she can free up that field for others to use that timeslot.

A few parking issues that have been brought to our attention by the RCMP:
Allen Heights Fire Station: Although it may appear to not be an active fire station, the RCMP have confirmed that it is – there is one truck in there that they do still use. Please do not block the doors. Also, whoever has to drive that truck out of the garage will need to manipulate it around the parking lot so please leave them some space - there is lots of room across the street to park.
Eisenhauer: A reminder to please park in the back parking lot - the fire department have been blocking off access to this parking lot and will ticket and/or tow your vehicle if you park next to the fire hall - parking is for fire hall functions only.
Uplands Park: The area next to the Needs Store is a no parking area and we have received complaints from the store that we are taking up customer parking spots. We recommend that you park in the church parking lot (when there are no church activities going on) or on the streets. Do not park in the small apartment building off Kenwood as this is a senior's complex and you will be ticketed and/or towed.
