Hornets Hold Open Tryout
One of the top Gold teams in the Central Atlantic Region, the Severna Park Hornets - Miller Gold, will be conducting an open tryout. The team is coming off a successful summer season, having qualified and attended the ASA Gold Nationals in Oklahoma City and also participating in top quality showcase tournaments.
The team is looking for several players to complete its fall 2009 and summer 2010 roster. We are looking for serious players that want to play at the highest level and help us reach our goal of returning to the Gold nationals next year. The team will compete this fall in some of the top showcases around the country.
The open tryout will be held Sunday, August 30th at 1pm at the Prince George's Community College softball field. All interested athletes are asked to please contact Coach Melissa Miller, 410-365-1362 or Coach Jay Chance, 410-310-4529.
Hornets Qualify for ASA GOLD Nationals!!!
In a weekend filled with rain delays and rainouts, the Hornets were able to earn their birth to the 2009 ASA GOLD Nationals in Oklahoma City! The girls went 3-0 on the weekend; beating the Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold 4-2 in international tie breaker, Maryland Legends Gold 1-0, and the Virginia Legends Gold 3-2. Great job ladies!

The Hornets Win USSSA Maryland State 18U Championships
Coach Melissa Miller's Severna Park Hornets (24-3-1) won the USSSA 18U Championships last weekend, with a balanced team effort comprised of stellar pitching, strong defensive play, and effective hitting!
The Hornets were unbeaten in five games, beating the Damascus Hurricanes Gold 9-4, the Heartbreakers 6-4, the Maryland Chill 5-4, the Lady Orioles 3-1, and in the Championship game, the Churchville Lightning 9-1.
The Hornets have the distinction of being the 2008 USSSA 18U Champions and 2008 ASA 16U Champions, a feat unmatched by any other team in Maryland. (In 2007, the Hornets were USSSA 16U and ASA 14U Champions!)

The 2009 Severna Park Hornets-Miller is a 18U Gold team dedicated to playing the game of fastpitch softball at the highest level. Our roster represents some of the best fastpitch talent in Maryland. Our coaches prepare the team thoroughly and we play hard. We make no excuses.
