Holy Cross H. S. Track & Field: Previous News

THANKS !
We would like to thank all the parents, team members, and coaches for the beautiful send-off at the Team Banquet on June 5. Your thoughts and words and gifts are very much appreciated. Over the years, the Holy Cross family has become very special to us, and we’re going to miss being part of that.

Seniors – What an energetic, talented bunch you all are! We enjoyed watching you grow and learn and find yourselves over the past 4 years. The team is truly going to miss your leadership and athletic abilities, but you showed by example what makes a championship team – and it is much more than good splits, jumps, or throws. Good luck in college and Life!

Underclassmen – Now it is your turn to step up and take a leadership role in the track & field program. You saw how far this year’s teams went, build on that and take it even further next year!

Coaches – What can we say, other than thank you for all you have done for the program and its successes? Our teams are more than a bunch of runners, jumpers and throwers - they really are a family. Each team member truly enjoys being part of the teams no matter what their role is. That those teams “just happen” to be championship teams, as they have been for many years, is a testament to your coaching and friendship.

Parents & Friends - Thank you for all of your support in the past, and we ask that you please continue to support the teams, coaches and parents club in the future, and help take the program to the next level!

TEAM BANQUET
carrabba logo 2
Our Team Banquet this year will be held on Monday June 5 starting at 6:30 pm in the Holy Cross Dining Hall (the start time was moved back to 6:30 pm from the original 6:00 pm to give the underclassman, who will be returning from their recently re-scheduled class trip, enough time to get back to school before the start of the Banquet). We are very pleased to announce that Carrabba's Italian Grill will be catering our Banquet this year. As Carrabba's is not only providing us with great food, but with great prices too, we're able to reduce prices this year to $5 per team member and $12 per family/friend. The meal will include Chicken Marsala, Pasta Pomodora, bread, salad, desert, and hot and cold beverages. All families should recieve a sign-up/response form by mail on or before May 17: responses are due back to Sharon Sheehan by Friday May 26. As we have to pay ahead of time for the food and drinks, we won't be able to accept payment at the door.

Come join us as we celebrate the season and thank our athletes and coaches. We look forward to having great food and great fun at the Banquet, and hope you'll join us in thanking and patronizing Carrabba's Italian Grill for catering our Banquet.

THE CLUB OFFICERS FOR NEXT YEAR ARE...
warning.gif
You and you and you... Underclass Parents - we have a small problem here. All of our club officers are parents of seniors, with no other children coming to Holy Cross, and so won't be around after June to help run the Track Club. So far, despite some gentle arm-twisting, no one has yet stepped forward and agreed to be an officer (and we need two or three) to help lead the club forward. It is not that hard, especially if the work can be spread out among several parents. The current officers can show you what has been done in the past, and then you can do as much or as little as you want – its our/your club. But if we don't soon get some volunteers, the club will basically fold up and go away. That will mean: 1) all the things that the club does to help the teams and coaches will stop (no team banquet, concession stand, awards, canopies/tents, website, clothing, pizza parties, photos, purchase of equipment, Mr Bob, etc.); and 2) the club budget, which is pretty healthy at this point, gets turned over to the school, and, take our word for it, will not be recoverable. The club was started in 1999, and has grown tremendously since then thanks to the time and efforts of many parents. But the club now needs a few parents willing to step up and help out. The hard part has been done - getting the club up and running, knowing what is needed and when, and having a budget that allows us to do what needs to be done. Now we just need to keep it going and growing. Has the club been successful/is it really needed? Look at the present program now and decide for yourself. We all know that we have good coaches and good kids to start with - that is a given and that is why we send our kids to Holy Cross. But if you look beyond that and look at: -student participation (we have LARGE teams, both boys and girls - the club tries to help make the sport fun for the kids) -parent participation (we have GREAT parent turnout at meets and club events - the club tries to communicate with the parents to let them know what is happening and when) -success of the teams (our teams are CHAMPS - both the boys and girls teams are repeat BCL Division Champs, the boys are the Burlington County Champs, both teams are the perennial defending South Jersey Parochial Champs, do very well at the State Championships, and send several athletes to the Meet Of Champions). Is all that related - you bet! Most of our success is, of course, due to having good kids and good coaching. But having a strong parents club to support/compliment the team and coaches sure doesn't hurt. And not having one in the future might... So if you are interested in helping the parents club continue to support our track and field program, one of the most successful athletic programs at Holy Cross, and willing to spend some time and effort (as little or as much as you want) - please talk to any of the officers at one of the remaining meets. You won't be sorry. Thanks for your continuing support.

TRACK CLOTHING - ***UPDATE***
The sweatshirts, T-shirts and embroidered warm-ups were finished today (Friday)and will be available tomorrow (Saturday) at the school at about 6:45 am before the bus leaves for the meet.  For those who have not paid, the T-shirts are $18 and the sweatshirts are $32 (make checks payable to Holy Cross HS).  .  Anything not paid for and left over will be placed in Cross' Corner in about a week.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A second batch of team sweatshirts and a second batch of girls t-shirts were ordered based on demand at the Parents Meeting on March 15.  They are scheduled to be finished about April 8th. We did order a few extra of each, which will go on sale in Cross' Corner when they are available.

The team warm-ups requested and paid at the Parents Meeting were also ordered and should be ready at the same time.

We still have some new boys singlets, and new girls singlets (both looser fit nylon and tighter fit lycra) for sale - but these are not Cross' Corner.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS - ***UPDATE***
Mr. Cusack from the boys team has offered to help, but at least two people are needed to set the tents up.  If anyone can help him, (and it is supposed to rain and be cold and windy tomorrow) please see him (early!) at the meet tomorrow morning.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The boys' and girls' teams are in need of parent volunteers to help with the team tents and canopy.  They are used to help keep our team (and parents) warm and dry during the early, cool part of the season, and then cool (out of the sun) and dry during late, warm part of the season.

The immediate need is for this weekend's Hall of Fame Meet.  The tents and canopy have been taken care of by senior parents, but since the seniors will be on the trip to Florida, other parents are needed for this weekend.

In addition, we need volunteers to help the boys' team during the next 3 to 4 weeks when the girls' and boys' team attend different meets.  On April 15 - the boys' team goes to Bridgeton  HS for the Bridgeton Relays, on April 21 - part of the boys' team goes to Willingboro HS for the Willingboro Relays, and on May 4 and May 6 the boys' team goes to the SJTCA Carninval at Buena HS.

If we don't get any parent volunteers, then our teams likely will not have the tents and canopy for these meets - and they really are needed - just ask anyone on the team who was at the Buena Relays last Saturday during one of the "scattered showers".

Thanks for your support of the teams!

CLEANUP DAY
Thanks to all those parents who braved the not so spring-like weather and helped make our Annual Field Cleanup Day a great success.  We had a great turn-out this year.  The Stadium grounds and Concession Stand were cleaned up, the hurdles fixed, the discus, shot and long jump areas worked on and cleaned up, and new markings painted on the track.  We're now ready for the season to begin!

2006 PARENTS MEETING
The Lancer Track Club will hold a pre-season Parents' Meeting for the 2006 Outdoor Track & Field girls and boys track teams in the Holy Cross cafeteria on Wednesday, March 15, 2006. There will be a clothing sale starting at 6:30 pm to purchase Track clothing (sweatshirts, T-Shirts, warm-up suits, singlets, etc).

The parent’s meeting will follow starting at 7:00 pm. At the meeting, parents will be able to meet the coaches, learn more about the parents’ booster club, sign up to help out with our annual Field Cleanup Day, get schedules and directions to the meets, sign up for team photos, get information about running shoes/spikes, and find out about Team Pizza Parties and the Team Banquet. As this will be the only Parents’ Meeting held during the season, at least one parent/guardian for each team member is requested to attend. Team members are invited to attend, but it's not necessary.
