Holden Baseball extends our get well wishes to District 4 Administrator Doug Hannam.
Thursday, July 9
The Holden Little League District All-Star team defeated Jesse Burkett Little League 3-2 tonight behind 6 1/3 innings of stellar pitching from Wiley Knight followed by Ben Amaral and Eric Sachse who closed out the game. Knight allowed only 4 hits while on the mound for Holden.
Holden's next game will be today, July 9th against Rutland on the Rutland Little League field at 5:30 PM.
Holden opened their District 4 tournament run with a 4-2 victory over West Boylston on Saturday, June 27th on the Swenson Memorial A Field and subsequently fell to Schwartz LL in a heartbreaking 5-4, 10 inning loss. Wiley Knight and Ben Amaral combined for 10 innings of pitching in the game against Schwartz.
Holden then rebounded with a 22-2 victory over Harvard LL. In that game the combined pitching of Jared Locke, Michael Baker, Tim Post, Ryan Jones gave up only 1 hit and 3 walks while throwing 8 strikeouts. The offensive attack was led by Matt Cappucci who went 3-5 with two doubles, Wiley Knight going 2-5, Tim Post going 3-4, Dan Bates going 1-2, Tanyon Ventris going 2-2 with two walks and Ben Amaral who went 5-5 and hit for the cycle including a 3-run homerun.
Holden next beat Paxton 9-1 on Wednesday, July 1st behind the combined pitching of Derek Shamlian, Jared Locke and Eric Sachse. On offense, Matt Cappucci went 3-3, Wiley Knight went 1-3 and Derek Shamlian went 1-4 with a bases clearing triple in the 4th and the team combined 7 walks with smart, aggressive baserunning to put the game out of reach.
Most recently, Michael Baker pitched 4 innings of no-hit ball with 10 strikeouts to lead the Holden Little League All-Star team to an 11-0 victory over the Connie Mack All Star team from Worcester on Monday, July 6th.
This year's District All-Star Team is managed by Greg Post with assistance from Bob Sachse and Fred Cappucci, and includes the following players:

The Holden All-Star team competes in the Massachusetts District 4 tournament that runs through July 19th against teams throughout Central Massachusetts. Holden has represented the 22-team district extremely well of late, finishing 2nd and 5th in the last two tournaments. Holden was last crowned as District 4 champion in 1992.

Wednesday, July 8
Summer Sandlot games for 8 and 9 year old players will begin on Tuesday, July 14th, and will run for the next 6 weeks.
The Summer Sandlot Program provides players with an opportunity to continue to play baseball during the summer months in an informal, but supervised setting. All games will be played on the Swenson Memorial A and B fields. Players are not required to sign up to participate. Teams are selected each week based on the players that show up that week to play. For 8 and 9 year old players, games are played following Little League AAA rules with an emphasis placed on instruction and fun.
These games will begin at 6 PM and run until roughly 8 PM. Players wishing to participate each week should arrive by 5:45PM so teams can be established and the games can get started right at 6 PM.
Holden Baseball Approved Coaches wishing to assist with Sandlot Baseball are asked to bring their equipment bags to the games.
Friday, June 26
Matt Gull, Head Baseball Coach for Wachusett Regional High School and Director of the Gull Baseball Academy has announced plans for three Summer Baseball Camps.
The Wachusett Baseball Camp will be held July 20th-23rd at the Wachusett Regional High School, while the Gull Baseball Academy will host camps at Holden's CRA facilities August 10th-13th and Rutland's Marsh Field August 17th-20th.
The fee for each camp is $145 and the camps are available to players of all skill levels between the ages of 6 and 13.

For the first time ever, Holden has entered a team to compete in the District 4 10-11 All-Star Tournament that will take place between July 14th and July 19th.
This year's 10-11 District All-Star Team will be managed by Tim Gallagher with assistance from Sean Leary and Chris Slavin, and includes the following players:

Once again, local Chevrolet dealers are sponsoring youth baseball through the Chevrolet Youth Baseball Program. As part of the program, Chevrolet is running the Chevy Youth Baseball and Softball Program Photo Contest. All leagues within the Chevrolet Youth Baseball Program, including Holden Baseball, have an opportunity to upload their best photos to showcase Chevrolet Youth Baseball equipment in action.
There will be three (3) categories of pictures and Chevrolet will select a winner from each category, including
- Best Defensive Play
- Best Drive (Batting)
- Best Team Spirit
Each category winner will then be eligible to win the grand prize which is a new Chevy Branded Scoreboard!
