Rob's Stopping Request
101 Shuffle - the instant hockey stop drill
7a) 1-foot slide (skates together and parallel, push 1 skate out to the side) R/L
b) 2-foot slide (skates together and parallel, push both skates apart, eliminate wiggling)
c) 1-foot step slide (lift inside skate, step apart (to the side)returning skate to ice at end of stroke with a short slide) R/L
d) Alternating Step Slide (again to the side with skates parallel and only 1 skate on the ice at a time)
Inside Skate Stops:
a) Standing on the Right Skate, Find the neutral part of your skate blade by spinning on the center flat of your blade. Do this until a) you do not travel and b) the skate makes no noise scraping on the ice. Repeat counter clockwise for the left skate.
b) Skate end to end stopping after each stop. Starting in the T-Push position with the Right Skate in front. The player will T-Push one time and Glide on the Right Skate while bringing the Left Skate (still in the air) back up to the heel of the Right Skate making contact with the heel of the skate, slowly place the left skate down onto the ice being sure to lean the Left skate over slightly onto the outside edge of the Left skate while rocking back onto the back half of the Right Skate, causing the front part or toe of the Right front blade to come off the ice 1" to 3" depending on size. Stopping should be in as long a slide as possible and not short and hard. Once balance is gained on the left or stoppping skate the Front or right skate can be completey lifted off the ice in a gradual manner. This can be done about 15 times in a row from end to end on the same skate side(stopping completely after each try) . Reverse
c) Skate end to end stopping after each stop. Starting in the T-Push position with the Right Skate in front. The player will T-Push one time and Glide on the Right Skate, once gliding the player will turn the Right Skate to the Right on the Neutral/Flat part of the blade from the previous set of drills. This can be done in a slow turn similar to the speed of the first set of drills. Caution: players will try to slam the skate into the 90* stop. This can be done about 15 times in a row from end to end on the same skate side . Reverse
Hockey 101 Training Arena Improvement Updates
While our new Arena is being used we are continuing to make the Arena more comfortable for Players and Parents. We have installed a 15,000 BTU Air Conditioner and added a 300/cfm blower/heater for the viewing area. This skating surface has inherent qualities making it superior to frozen skating surfaces for training and conditioning. We are happy to announce the addition of our Radar Tracking System for Slapshots and our suspended Checking Dummy
