BLAST ADVANCE TO PREMIER DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2ND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
The BLAST defeated the Spirit United Gaels 3-2 on Saturday to advance to the Championship of the Premier Barca Division. This marks the first time in a decade that a Delaware girls' team has the opportunity to compete for back-to-back championships in the league's highest division. The BLAST found themselves down 2-0 at the half. Early in the first half, Regan just missed on a blast that hit the underside of the bar, bounced down hitting the keeper and out. The team also missed on a ball played through by Nat. H to Regan. The Gaels turned up the heat and took advantage of a few miscues proving that they were the quality team expected. The BLAST re-grouped at the half. Despite having a 6-2 corner kick advantage, the team hadn't yet found the net. That changed on corner kick #9 when Regan struck to make the game 2-1. The momentum started to shift and a Gael defender was forced to drag Colby down in the box by pulling her arm and pulling her down from behind. Despite not being awarded the penalty kick, the team was able to knot the game at 2-2 when Regan's shot rebounded and Colby finished. The game went to overtime where Sam found herself in great position in the box and ripped a shot that deflected by the goalkeeper. The team went up 3-2 and held on to advance to the championship. Haley W. had a clean sheet in the second half and OT and made a huge stop in the second half to keep the team in the match. Tuesday, November 10
BLAST COMPETE AT RALEIGH SHOOTOUT
The BLAST played well but dropped two games and tied one at the CASL Shootout in Raleigh, NC. Despite getting the better of the play and holding a 1-0 lead in the first half, the BLAST fell 2-1 to Tophat Gold of Atlanta, GA. Regan scored the lone goal as the team conceded a penalty kick and corner kick that scored in the loss. The second game of the day was against the North Carolina State Champion, CASL Elite Black. The game was tied at the half, but a late breakaway earned the victory for CASL. On Sunday, the team battled former Virigina State Champion, Northern Magestic Gold to a 0-0 tie. The tournament rules make it such that every game must produce a winner, so the teams went to penalty kicks where Gold won 3-2. Next Up: Saturday, PAGS SemiFinals

BLAST SPLIT WEEKEND GAMES BUT FINISH STRONG WITH 5-0 WIN OVER BALTIMORE BAYS
The BLAST struggled at home on Saturday vs. BSA Rage (#13 Region 1) losing by a 1-0 margin. The goal game on a corner kick in the first half. On Sunday, the BLAST came out strong with a 5-0 win over Baltimore Bays (#15 Region 1) to temporarily move into 2nd place in PAGS Barca Division. The team held a clear possession advantage and moved the ball around well creating numerous scoring opportunities. Colby was taken down from behind approximately 8 yards from goal and the team was awarded a penalty kick. Regan drove that home to put the team up 1-0. Colby scored the second goal of the game after finding the middle open up following good movement off of the ball by the BLAST. She penetrated inside and finished cleanly. Brianna's third effort on a great run into the box put the team up 3-0 as she blasted the ball into the net. The team wasn't done. Once again, the Bays were forced to take a player down in the box dumping Natalie H. on her back. She struck the penalty kick low and left for the team's fourth goal. The team's fifth goal came on a corner kick that was kept alive by Amira and played out to McKenzie who hammered home the ball from 30 yards out. Haley and Brooke combined for the team's third shutout victory in league play and 10th on the season. Monday, October 12
BLAST DEFEAT PENN FUSION, GO 1-1-1 AT WAGS TOURNAMENT
The BLAST earned their second league win of the season while cruising to a 3-0 victory over Penn Fusion (formerly West Chester). In a game that could have seen an even larger margin of victory, the team controlled from front to back. Regan scored 2 goals and Brianna 1 while Haley and Brooke combined for their second league shutout. The team then traveled to Virginia for the WAGS tournament. Rarely does a Delaware team earn top bracketing, but the BLAST represented Hockessin SC and Delaware in fine fashion. The team opened up with a 2-0 win over Pennsylvania State Finalist, Westmont United Blue Devils before dropping a close afternoon contest to JBSA Lightning, ranked top 10 in Region 1. The team then played to a scoreless draw against the Alabama State Champions. Next up: BSA Rage
BLAST SHOW WELL AT REGION ONE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The BLAST made their way to West Virginia on Thursday, July 2nd to compete in the Region One Championships. Facing a tough draw of Bethesda (MD), Nordic Premier (VT) and FC Bucks (EPA), the team enjoyed their first night by attending the opening ceremonies. After watching a hotly-contested mascot game, the team sat through another stirring opening celebration. The highlight, all kidding aside, seemed to be the Airborne parachuting to center field of the stadium at Marshall University. As a Furman alum and U of D supporter, I did have some issues with sitting in Marshall's stadium! The BLAST knew their opening match vs. Bethesda would set the tone for the entire weekend. Everyone knew the match would be competitive, and it lived up to the billing! Bethesda had an early chance that was stuffed by GK Haley W. The key to stopping Bethesda was controlling their talented right striker. Much of that task was left to Natalie R who performed heroically at times. The girls quickly sorted that out and focused on intelligent counter attacks. The team mostly kept Bethesda to the outside and away from the net while looking to serve balls from the wing and open up the middle. The game remained a scorless draw until Brianna headed in a perfectly struck corner by Sam P. From there, the team held on for the opening 1-0 victory and a hard-earned 3 points. In the second match vs. Nordic Premier on July 4th, it was all BLAST. Colby opened the scoring on a breakaway which she "tucked" under the GK to go up 1-0 early in the first half. Stephanie scored the team's second goal off of another gem by Sam P. which was headed in for Steph's first goal of the tourney. A little bit of excitement ensued before half time, but the girls remained focused and pushed the lead to 3-0 on a great run by Amy out of the center back position. Nordic came back to make the game 3-1 on a quick re-start, but the BLAST were not finished. Colby earned her second goal of the match to push the final score to 4-1. A rain out on Sunday meant that the BLAST would have to wait until Monday to attempt to punch their ticket to the semi finals. In the way would be Eastern Pennsylvania champion, FC Bucks. The game was hard fought and well played by both sides. Haley had to make one big stop, but the better of the scoring opportunities were by the BLAST on a near early miss by Brianna on a corner kick. Later in the game, the team barely failed to connect on an indirect free kick, a 2 vs. 1 inside of midfield that nearly broke in alone, and just missed another corner kick as time was winding down. Regan was given the task of marking the dynamic #44 from Bucks. Her defensive abilities made a huge difference in the flow of the match. Both teams were prepared to battle, but Bucks connected when it counted on a great second effort. FC Bucks defended well in their defending third and managed to preserve the 1-0 victory. In all, it was a great tournament for the BLAST and helped foster optimism for 2010!
BLAST WIN FC DELCO PLAYERS CUP PREMIER CHAMPIONSHIP
The BLAST took home the championship this past weekend at the FC Delco Players Cup. Despite having three players out with injuries and a somewhat juggled lineup, the team continued to show heart and determination seemingly getting stronger with each match. This was every bit as true in the Championship Final played on Monday at USTC in Downingtown. The game got started with good combination play between Colby and Tyus. They penetrated the back line and Tyus finished cleanly to the far post to put the team 1-0 just a few minutes into the match. It wasn't long after that Brianna pushed the ball up the right side of the field and hit a cross on the run finding Colby closing on the far post who one-timed a header down and into the net. The team led 2-0 at halftime. East Meadow came out strong in the second half, however the defense was not going to yield a goal on the day. East Meadow attacked early but were unable to get significant pressure on the net. The BLAST used quick counterattacks but then settled in and played the ball around quite well before Sam hit a 25-yard shot into the upper right corner to put the team up 3-0. Maddie R. rounded out the scoring at 4-0. Amy and Regan controlled the middle of the defense all day with great support at the outside from Amira, Morgan and Nat R. Haley posted the championship shutout in fine fashion to end a great weekend of soccer. The BLAST punched their ticket it to the finals of the FC Delco Players Cup Championship match with a 3-1 win over FC Delco 95's on Sunday in the semi finals of the Premier Division. The team advanced after winning their bracket earlier in the day. Colby scored the game winning goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in the final preliminary match vs. East Meadow, NY. to win 3-2. East Meadow erased a 2-0 second half deficit but the team wouldn't fold. It was a good thing, because the goal allowed the team to take the division and advance to face FC Delco. All weekend the team rallied back from adversity with a strong team effort. Their biggest offensive output occurred in a 4-1 in over Mt. Laurel, NJ. At some point during the weekend, every member of the team was required to step up and make a big play. A number of injuries often forced the lineup to be juggled, but the girls performed heroically. Bracket B proved to be the strongest as East Meadow claimed a wild card and earned a trip back to the finals vs. The BLAST with their own semi final victory. Good luck girls!
SCARLETT NAMED TO CONFERENCE ALL FRESHMAN TEAM
This year, we have four relatives of our Blast teammates that are either coaching or playing at the NCAA Division 1 level. Coaching is certainly the theme in the Ciarrocca family! Kim is the head coach of Women's Lacrosse at the University of Delaware, while Kirk is the co-offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach at Rutgers University. Stephanie Rinschler, sister of Natalie, was a freshman standout at University of Delaware in Women's Soccer while Scarlett Fakhar, step-daughter of Coach Ted, has signed a letter of intent to play for Elon University Women's Soccer in North Carolina. Keep an eye on this feature for games, stats and information. UPDATE: Scarlett was named to the Southern Conference All Freshman team. Elon led the way with 3 selections to the 11-member squad. Scarlett finished the year with 3 goals which placed her 3rd on the team in scoring, and 10th in the conference, while earning 10 starts in 18 matches. Elon finished tied for 4th in the conference with Davidson but failed to advance based on tie break criteria. Scarlett had to sit out the final match with an injury. Their overall record was 12-5-2 with a 7-3-1 conference record.

2ND ANNUAL BLAST GOLF TOURNAMENT A HUGE SUCCESS
The Hockessin Blast held their second annual golf tournament on Friday the 23rd at Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club. 117 golfers took to the course on Friday amid partly cloudy skies and a few wind gusts. Among them were "convicts" and "Jason Werth"! While no one was about to mistake the event for the PGA, there was some good golf mixed in with more than a few mulligans. Prizes were plentiful, the beer was flowing, and a good time was had by all. The BLAST would like to thank all of our golfers, sponsors and contributors. The community support has been overwhelming.
Please welcome our new, team sponsors!
The team is pleased to be affiliated with our sponsors: Davis Insurance Group and Bernard Management Corporation
