| A Message From the President |
December 10, 2009
Dear Hobb Engler LL Players, Parents, Managers and Coaches,
I look forward to serving as President of Hobb Engler Little League for the upcoming season. Based on ten years of experience as Manager, Coach, and Board Member, I have a lot of new ideas on how to get things organized in advance so that we can all focus on our key objectives once practices begin in the spring. Those key goals are helping our young players become the best ball players and best citizens that we hope they can all be. Since October, our newly-elected Board has met four times and we’ve reviewed many topics and organized committees from Registration to Fundraising to Player Development to Budgeting and more. We hope to have things well organized for the enjoyment of all involved before our upcoming season.
As President, I want to start by delivering three key messages for the upcoming season: 1.) To our managers and coaches: I will support our coaching staffs with everything possible to help them focus on teaching our kids the finer points of playing baseball; 2.) To our players: they need to take advantage of the opportunity to have a lot of fun playing baseball. Our players need to understand that the emphasis though is on “Baseball fun.” By attending practices, listening to and learning from their coaches, trying their best at practice and during games, and learning to be a good teammate, you will excel at the sport and enjoy it as a player and as a fan for years to come; 3.) To the parents: my eight years coaching my son and his friends went by very quickly. Those days are done and they’re never coming back. You don’t get a “do-over”. Don’t wait. You’ll always work, you’ll always have jobs to do around the house, and you’ll always have a “million other things to do”. But, don’t let these days pass you by without getting involved for the sake of the kids, even if it’s only a few hours a week. From prepping fields, to helping at the snack stand, to helping on a committee, the time you offer helps our coaches and staff members help us dedicate the time to helping all the kids play baseball. Managers and coaches will always appreciate a hand to get the little things done during the season.
Also, to all players and parents: please note our film clip on this web site. Learning to play baseball starts at home - not on the practice fields. Spend some quality time together. “Go outside and play catch!” That’s where it starts. Continue an American traition right in your own backyard.
We look forward to opening day on April 24, but there’s a lot of work to get done beforehand to make our league one of the best anywhere. When you come to Registrations scheduled in January, please look for volunteer lists to tell us how you can help out. These next few years are probably the closest you’ll ever spend with your children and their friends. Take my word for it; you wouldn’t want to miss out this experience for anything. Please do yourselves a favor and get involved to help make this a great experience for your baseball players and their friends!
