Volunteer Organization
The Hobart Little League is a volunteer organization.  This past year we have strived to run the league with more volunteer work and less paid help.  If every parent would just give a couple of hours a year it would save the HLL a lot of money.  The HLL is not owned or ran by the city.  We do not have paid workers who maintain the complex.  Hobart Little League is ran and maintained by volunteers.  So please give a couple of hours to help work on the fields or help in the concession stand.  With your help we can make HLL the best Little League in the state.

Keep the Kids Playing

70 percent of kids will quit youth sports by the time they turn 13.  When asked why they respond abusive coaches, they don’t get a chance to play, winning is over stressed and there is excessive repetition that leads to boredom.  Coaches and parents get so rapped up in winning that we are loosing track of what is really important.  As Coach Jerry Norton says,” To many coaches have the philosophy Play the best and bench the rest."  What really is important is not the win – loss column, but how many of your players come back and play next year.  Parents are putting so much pressure on kid that they are turning the game into a job.  1/3 of players surveyed by NAYS said that they have had trouble sleeping because they were nervous about making a mistake in a big game.  When asked why they sign up to play sports kids number one answer is to have fun.  The Citizenship Through Sports Alliance has found that there is an alarming rise in the pressure to win in youth sports.  In one survey over half the kids said they would prefer no score kept in their youth sports.  At the Hobart Little League we are striving to make it a fun and learning experience for all the kids.  Hobart Little League included all players in the batting line up long before Little League suggested it.  We have also included a rule that no player can sit the bench more than one inning at a time.  This ensures all players in a six-inning game will get a minimum of three innings of play. Also every coach and parent signs a code of conduct when signing up.  The League has paid for the coaches to attend the AL & AL coaching clinic and safety clinics put on by the district.  HLL is striving to make it a fun, safe time for all the kids.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL PLAYERS AND COACHES ARE ASKED TO PICK UP TRASH IN THE DUG OUT AND BLEACHER AREAS AFTER EACH GAME. PARENTS THIS IS A GREAT TEACHING OPORTUNITY FOR YOU. PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF AND LEAD BY EXAMPLE.
Also FYI every Saturday is field maintenance day. With the families of over 500 children there should be more than 10 people getting the fields ready to play. It doesn’t take a great commitment If everyone put in one hour we would have the prettiest complex in the country. Even if you can’t put in an hour something as simple as picking up empty water bottles and wrappers from the parking lot and practice fields then dropping them in the dumpster box as you go by would be a great help.
This is a volunteer organization and we all “do it for the kids”

I can't remember how many games we won, but I can remember the smiles on our boys' faces when grown men honored their efforts and made them feel special.
