Haverstraw Little League Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are a major league (ages 9-12) softball team from Haverstraw, New York.


Monday, June 2
Blue Jays are 14 and 0

The Blue Jays beat the Orioles 19 to 0 to go to 14 and 0.  Jennifer Morris pitched a two hit shut out with 11 strike outs.  She also had a single, double, triple and three runs batted in. 

Casey Knipl was 4 for 5 with a triple and four RBI.  Erica Desch was 3 for 4 with a double and two singles.  Taylor Fasano and Dalissa Rojas were each 2 for 4.



Friday, May 30
Blue Jays 19 - Angels 2

Melina Anselmi and Alexandra Garrison each had a hit and an RBI leading the Blue Jays over the Angels 19-2.  Nicole Aylmer was 4 for 5 with a triple, double and four RBI.  Jennifer Morris and Dalissa Rojas each had three RBI.  Madison Knipl and Julianna Cabrera had two hits apiece, and Casey Knipl drove in two runs.

On a night when the Blue Jay offense was exploding Madison Knipl shut down the Angels.  She gave up three hits, one earned run, and struck out nine.



Wednesday, May 28
Blue Jays 9 - Angels 6
Taylor Fasano tossed a two hitter and struck out nine as the Blue Jays beat the Angels 9-6.  Jennifer Morris led the offense with a single, a double, and two runs batted in.  Erica Desch had two hits and two RBI.  Nicole Aylmer and Irene Gregg each had a hit and scored a run.

Wednesday, May 21
Blue Jays 11 - Red Sox 6

The Blue Jays gave up five runs in the top of the first inning, but scored six of their own in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead.   Jennifer Morris pitched four innings in relief.  She gave up one hit, and no earned runs to lead the Blue Jays to their eleventh straight win.  She was 2 for 2 at the plate with two RBI.  Nicole Aylmer had two hits and drove in a run.  Casey Knipl had the other Blue Jay hit.

Madison Knipl made a big catch at short to end the first inning.  Casey played great defense behind the plate.  She caught a pop up at the fence, and cut down the only runner who tried to advance with a great toss to Jenn covering the plate.



Wednesday, May 14
Blue Jays 5 - Angels 4

Taylor Fasano pitched a complete game one hitter as the Blue Jays won their second one run game in two days.  Taylor gave up one hit, two earned runs and had ten strikeouts over six innings.

Casey Knipl and Jenn Morris each had two hits.  Erica Desch, Madison Knipl, Dalissa Rojas, and Courtney Hegner had one hit apiece.  Irene Gregg, Jenn, Courtney and Madison each had an RBI, and Dalissa Rojas scored the winning run when she took home on passed ball.  

Erica Desch played a great defensive game at first base with five put outs, including a game saving catch in the bottom of the fifth inning.  The Blue Jays are now 10 and 0. 



Tuesday, May 13
Blue Jays 9 - Red Sox 8

Casey Kniple broke open a 4 to 4 tie with a two run triple in the top of the sixth. Melina Anselmi opened the inning with a walk and Nicole Aylmer followed with a base hit ahead of Casey’s triple. Jenn Morris followed the triple with a double and an RBI. Erica Desch singled, and Taylor Fasano drove in Jenn and Erica with a double.

Casey finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBI. Jenn Morris was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Nicole Aylmer was 2 for 4, Taylor Fasano was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI, and Erica Desch was 1 for 3. Madison Knipl and Julianna Cabrera each drove in a run.

Taylor Fasano, Nicole Aylmer, and Madison Knipl combined to throw a two hitter. Nicole picked up the win, and Madison the save as the Blue Jays held on to win 9-8.



Monday, May 5
Blue Jays are 8 and 0

Taylor Fasano pitched a complete game two hitter with thirteen strike outs, and was 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBI to lead the Blue Jays over the Orioles 27-4.  Casey Knipl was also 2 for 3 with a home run.  She drove in three runs.

Dalissa Rojas doubled and drove in four.  Madison Knipl had three hits, Jenn Morris had two and Julianna Cabrera and Courtney Hegner each had one..

 



Sunday, May 4
Blue Jays 15 - Angels 9

Erica Desch and Taylor Fasano each tripled in the Blue Jays 15-9 victory over the Angels.  Erica led the offense going 2 for 4 with a single, triple, and four RBI.  Julianna Cabrera was 3 for 4 with three RBI, and Jenn Morris was 2 for 4 with two RBI.  Madison Knipl and Dalissa Rojas each had a base hit.

Madison Knipl started the game and gave up three hits, eight runs, and struck out seven in four innings.  Nicole Aylmer and Taylor Fasano each pitched an inning of relief.



Thursday, May 1
Former Blue Jays at North Rockland High School

Three former Blue Jays are playing varsity softball at North Rockland High School this year.  Krystn Benson is one of two outstanding Red Raider pitchers.  She is currently third in all of Section One with and ERA of .737.   Amanda Babcock, who leads the team in hitting with a .467 batting average, anchors the infield defense at shortstop, while Megan Jacob anchors the outfield defense in center field.

Krystn (sophomore) and Amanda (junior) will be back with the Red Raiders next year.  Megan, who is a senior, will be moving on to the Culinary Institute of America.  She recently came in first place in a competition that included all Culinary Arts students in New York State. 

The varisty team also includes former Haverstraw Little Leaguers Samantha Marshall in right field, and left fielder Kerry Brechbiel.  Kerry played for the Angels and Sam was an Oriole.

Haverstraw Junior League All Stars are Eastern Regional Champions

The Haverstraw Little League Junior League Softball All Stars won the NYS District 18, NYS Section 2, New York State, and Eastern Regional Championships.  Winning the regionals meant that Haverstraw represented the Eastern United States in the Junior League Softball World Series. 

The Haverstraw Team was led by former Blue Jay Krystn Benson.  There are stories about the team on the Haverstraw Little League Softball All Star Website.
