Special Catcher's Video "Blocking the ball"

Active.com Mike Matheny on Catcher Blocking Skills

First Rule of Defense   "GET THE BALL"

If you have a chance to get the ball, get it. Don't think it's for the other guy.

Always be ready to make the play.  Know the situation. How many outs, where are the runners. IF THE BALL COMES TO ME, WHAT WILL I DO. Don't wait till you get the ball to decide, "What should I do.

 Second Rule of Defence  "ANTICIPATE"

If the ball does not come to you, where should I go to help the play. ALWAYS DO SOMETHING.  Where should I go to back-up a play. BE THERE BEFORE THE BALL IS MISSED.

Third rule of Defense  "Communicate"

Talk "yell" to your teammates, about what is happening during the game.

"Runner Stealing", "Mine or I Got it", "Go Two - Three - Home or 4", "Cut", "Tag the runner", "Runner missed base", "I'm covering Two", "Bunt", or any other verbal 'helpful' words.  Always be positive when talking to your teammates.
