Down the Home Stretch!

Great game last night 'Cats.  We put together a great game of defense when we needed to and I think we're ready to hit our end of the season stride.  I tell the kids that we're only guaranteed 2 more games, 1 regular season and 1 playoff game.  If we want to play more, it's up to them.  They came together nicely last night and made the big plays.  Alex Rosser had a great game in the outfield and Bryce Glenn also made some great stops.  Campbell Wildrick recorded our second out of the year at the catcher position and I think it was all because of his new glove he found in the garage!

Connor Watson had an inside-the-park homer and Tanner Frye belted some great deep balls.  Drew Patterson has found his swing and is stinging the ball up the middle and Walker Smith continues to swing a hot bat.  I also want to congratulate DeHaven for staying in the game and getting a big hit when we needed it.

We've got the Bulldogs Friday night and it should be a good one, see you at Hillbrook!

What a wacky game we play...

Never forget, baseball is just a wonderfully, odd game!

First and foremost, I think we need to tip our hats to our opponents. The Cardinal played an outstanding game. They hit the ball well and played stellar defense. They were a bit short handed, but they played great and gave us almost more than we could handle.

A theme that I keep reminding our kids of is "Don't ever quit on me or your teammates!" Our game last night was a prime example of how things can turnaround and happen in an instant in baseball.

Our never quit motto was put on display and our little group of kids made the most of their opportunities. Big hit after big hit was coupled with the big plays on defense. I have to quit singling out players for outstanding plays because they all make significant contributions to our wins. But I do have to mention a couple of kids from last night's game.

First of all, Charles Overcarsh. Defensively he made a great stop in the outfield and got the ball right back to the infield to halt the runners. But his biggest play came at the plate. Charles had a rough night at the plate, but found his stroke in his third at-bat to deliver a huge RBI hit.

Secondly, I have to give a big shout out to Alex Rosser. Alex has found his swing and put the ball in the outfield with significant hits. But his biggest contribution may have been lost to most spectators. When we came to the bottom of the 4th, we had to get three outs quick so we would not hit the time limit and could start another inning. We all know the catcher position can be tough at this age because it is very hard to play. But if it were not for Alex behind the plate catching and paying attention, we would have never gotten to that last inning. He was able to catch the missed pitches and get it back to the Cardinal coach quickly. We started the bottom of the inning with a little over 4 minutes on the time limit and we got three outs with a little over a minute left on the time limit. If Alex had bobbled even a few of those balls, we would've never gotten our last at bat. Way to go Alex!

We have 4 huge games left, so buckle up 'Cats, it's gonna be a wild ride!

Things are Starting to Click!

Our guys played another great game tonight and as you all can see, they are starting to come together and play as a team.  The bats were timely tonight and the defense was just outstanding.  We can see where we want to be from here, we've not made it yet, but we have seen what we can do.

Defensively the night belonged to those manning the outfield.  Coach Patterson and I have remarked several times the biggest play in this league can be an outfielder hustling a ball in from the outfield to stop a runner from getting extra bases.  We did that several times tonight.

From the offense, we had two huge hits tonight.  Walker Smith came through as the last batter of the inning when he cleared the loaded bases with a screaming double up the middle.  The second big hit also came at the end of an inning when Alex Rosser launched one into the deep outfield that scored two runners.

Great job 'Cats.  Like I said, we've seen what we can do, now let's build on it and see what kind of baseball we can really play.

Shorthanded but Excellent!

The Wildcats were missing three players from their ranks Friday night but still but forth a great effort in defeating the Bulldogs.  While the Bulldogs were missing a few players as well, we still played defense the best we have all year long.  Great plays in the infield by Connor Watson, Drew Patterson and Thompson Rudolph kept the 'Dawgs at bay and even though we only fielded 2 outfielders, our outfielders played at an oustanding level.  Campbell Wildrick and Charles Overcarsh led the charge, but Dehaven Dickerson, Bryce Glenn and Walker Smith also made great individual plays to help cut down on their scoring opportunities.

The bats were on tonight as every batter got on and scored.  There were numerous homeruns: a couple by Thomspon Ruldoph, one by Charles Overcarsh and one by Bryce Glenn as well.

Great job 'Cats, you didn't let a shortened roster get you down ad you made the most of the opportunity.  Now, as always - Let's keep building and getting better each week.  We're halfway through the season with 6 more games to go, time to catch fire!

True Grit!

An absolutely stellar performance last night from everyone.  The fact that we were able to force an extra inning showed the heart that abounds on this team.  We were down by 7 and had to score that in order to force the last inning and our kids did just that.  The Tide has a great record and it's not a fluke, they play great defense and hit the ball well.  I'm just proud of our guys for standing tall and delivering when they had to.  Alex Rosser had some great hits last night and really came up big.  Charles Overcrash is really starting to hit the ball well and he did his part last night.  Thompson Rudolph made more than a few excellent defensive plays and Connor Watson came through with a big double play for us.  Nolan Sykes remarked to me in the field that we needed a secret weapon and I told him that he was it!  He went to the plate the next inning and smacked a double that helped us along to our 7 runs.

See you guys Friday night for the 'Dawgs.  We're going to be very short-handed on players so we'll really have to play our best.

Keep Climbing the Ladder

Fantastic game last night. Again, It's really hard for me to go into great detail about the plays of note because there were so many plays made by so many people. With that being said though, DeHaven Dickerson gets a nod on the defensive end for the pop-up he caught in the top of the last inning and Charles Overcarsh as well for his put-out at third earlier in the game. There were so many good plays but those were made when we had to make the play.

On the offensive side, Everyone...EVERYONE down to the man, made a big hit in a big situation. I've got to mention Bryce Glenn for his game-winning hit. The guys before him had to get on base and they did and Bryce had the opportunity to do what every kid hopes to do one day. Win the game by coming through in the clutch.

We had great base-running to go along with our hitting. Our base-running skills have grown exponentially since game 1 and the players are starting to think for themselves (and listening a bit more).

That Vols team is a good team, they hit it well and hard, we hung tough though and that gave us a chance to win and we finally took the next step. Now comes the tough part, expanding on that success. Our team motto is to get better each week and so far we have. Now we have to get better again, polish up the mistakes we had and take it into the next game.

Great Job 'Cats!

Unbelievable Performance!

What an absolutely great game. We didn't come away with exactly what we were after but it was a great jumping off point for this rest of the season. There were so many terriffic plays I can't recount them all so the best I can say is great team effort. Going into the bottom of the 4th inning we were down 14-8. We held them scoreless and then were able to score 6 in the top of the 5th to even it up. We then held them scoreless again in the bottom of the 5th to preserve the tie. To come back from 6 down and hold them scoreless for two innings is a big feat and our kids never gave up. Every kid made contributions in the field and at the plate, everyone gave what they could to the team. The Tarheels are a good team and we didn't give up and stayed right with them. We have the Vols next so I'll see you at the field.

Wildcats Make Advances

What turned out to be a whacky evening at the ballfield, supplied the spectators with a great game. The Wildcats' defense is starting to come together as many great defensive plays were made. Tanner Frye had a great stab at first base of a scorching line drive, Drew Patterson by his showing his mad hops at shortstop and to Connor Watson by staying with a pop up at the catcher position. We also had great outfield play as usual by getting the ball in and limiting the runners to single bases.

The bats were in full pedal-to-the-metal mode as we scored 13 runs in the first two innings without an out being recorded. We had four homeruns on the night by Tanner Frye, Thompson Rudolph, Charles Overcarsh and Alex "X" Rosser. Each member of the Wildcats had a hit and there were great hits by DeHaven Dickerson, Campbell Wildrick, Connor Watson, Drew Patterson, Nolan Sykes and Bryce Glenn.

The only thing this team is lacking is one in the win column but we are making strides each game and that is sure to come. Go 'Cats!

Wildcats open the season!

The Wildcats hit the ball really well in their season opener but ran into a Tigers team that was ready for them.  The Tigers hit the ball really well and it seemed to go right where the Wildcats weren't.  It was a good game and our kids fought back well after being down and they stayed focused.  There were several big hits all the way down the lineup and everyone contributed to the team.  Nolan Sykes had a great blistering shot down the 3rd base line to lead off the second that got us started on a 7-run inning.  We'll see you all at Eastway on Thursday for our next game!
