2010 MSSL Spring College Showcase Champions!!

Highland United finished 2-0-2 to capture 1st Place in the 2010 MSSL Spring College Showcase at Ft. Dix.  On Friday, the United started very early in the morning and struggled against a strong Berks Ajax FC team.  With a couple of people playing under the weather or injured, the United midfielders battled to keep the team in the game.  Offensively, the team was unable to consistently get the ball up to the forwards and had to settle for a 0-0 tie.  Less than an hour later, the United took on Cape Express.  Cape Express dominantly ball possession, but the United won the majority of the 50-50 balls.  Ryan R. set up Marshall who was streaking in from the left side and scored putting the team up 1-0.  Sliding Ritchie back to centermid, the United attempted to regain control of the game but was forced into defending breakaway after breakaway.  Late in the second half, Cape quick volleyed a ball off of our defender and chipped in a shot.  The United rallied but missed 2 close shots on goal and had to settle for a 1-1 tie.  On Saturday, the United exploded offensively.  Taking on the 1st place Victory Express, the United jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead.  Ritchie finished a cross from Dan.  Rob scored in traffic and Ryan R. headed in a hard cross from Ritchie.  Billy dominated everything in the air, outheading everyone on the field.  Victory snuck in a goal in the far upper 90 and the United quickly struck back with Ritchie dribbling through the entire Victory team to make it 4-1.  In the final game, the United clinched 1st place defeating Primo SC U19 3-0.  The United repeatedly crashed the goal and threatened left and right.  Ritchie picked up 2 quick goals for a 2-0 lead.  On a breakaway, Ryan R. was crushed by the keeper going for the ball.  Ritchie stepped in for the PK and made it 3-0.  In the second half, the United battled uphill and the wind with Tommy bulling his way through several players to get to goal.  The United finished strong with a 3-0 win and the Championship!

Highland United finished 2-0-2 to capture the 2009 MSSL Winter College Showcase Championship!  Playing 4 out of state teams, the United, behind Tim Brett in goal, finished with 4 shutouts.  Facing Wyoming Valley PAE in the early, cold morning, the United started off slow and were unable to pressure the goal.  Their defense came up big behind Kyle, Matt, Jimmy and Billy.  In the second half, Connor was able to fight through traffic and pick up the lone goal of the game.  In game 2, the United played a tough Port Washington NYE squad.  In a very physical game, the United stood up to a lot of abuse, both verbal and physical.  PW lost one goal on an offsides call, and the United held on for a 0-0 tie.  On Sunday, the weather was much better, but the United were missing 5 players, 4 of whom were very sick.  In game 3, the United were tied for first with the U19 Hunter Hawks PAE.  The United dominated play at times and had a couple of opportunities but missed wide of the goal.  In the second half, the game again became very physical but the United held on for a second 0-0 tie.  In game 4, the United took on Clarkstown Reserve NYE and immediately crashed the goal.  4 crosses in front of the Clarkstown goal came up empty, but the 5th one was the charm with Rob touching a seeing eye pass up to Connor who finished for a 1-0 lead.  Minutes later, Ritchie, who was putting on his own juggling/moves clinic, added a second goal.  In the second half, the United kept up the pressure.  A cross by Ritchie went into traffic and Marshall forced in the goal for a 3-0 lead.  The United dominated from beginning to end.  The 2-0-2 final results were good enough for first place!

New Jersey State Cup 2008 - Quarterfinals!

The U16 Mountain Dogs won their first New Jersey State Cup game, defeating Tom's River United 4-0.  For game two, the MDogs traveled to New Egypt to face GAK FC 1992.  Unfortunately, GAK failed to arrange for referees.  The game was made up at home for the MDogs on a Wednesday night.  The game was tied 0-0 at the half.  GAK picked up 2 goals early in the second half, but the MDogs kept the pressure up, scoring once and then tying the game with 4 minutes to go.  After playing two 15 minute overtime periods, the score remained tied.  On penalty kicks, GAK scored their first 3 and then missed 2 in a row.  The MDogs scored on their first 4 to advance to the Quarterfinals.  The Parsippany Thunder brought a physical game to town.  The MDogs pressured the ball repeatedly, but fell 2-0.  It was definitely a sign of good things to come.

Cape Express Beach Blast Double Champions!!

The Mountain Dogs formed two teams to enter the Cape Express Beach Blast. Both teams went undefeated and were crowned Beach Blast Champions!!

The Mountain Dogs - Black featured Ryan A., Jimmy, Ryan E., Brian, Patrick H., Dan H., Cesar, Mike W. and Chris VZ. In game 1, the MDogs tied the Dallastown Stingrays 1-1 with a goal from Chris. In game 2, the MDogs blew away the Black Diamond Thunder 2-1 with 2 rocket goals from Ryan E. (from the touch line) and Ryan A. (from the left side line). On Sunday, the MDogs stepped it up, defeating the Vineland Galaxy Red 2-1 behind goals by Chris and Pat H. In the finals, the MDogs played a very violent and aggressive Vineland Galaxy White team. Chris, Mike W. and Ryan A. combined to give the MDogs an early 3-0 lead, but the Galaxy refused to go away quietly. Following red and yellow cards, the Galaxy roared back to tie the game at 3 all. The MDogs stepped it up and took away every 50-50 ball and with less than a minute to play, Ryan A. buried the ball in the goal and the Galaxy in a black hole giving the MDogs the title!

The Mountain Dogs - Blue featured Dan B., Rob, Cameron, Tommy, Matt, Michael P., Marshall, Hamza and Josh. The MDogs picked up a 3-2 win over the Hulmeville Thunder in game 1 behind a goal by Cameron and 2 from Michael P. In game 2, the MDogs exploded on the Burlington Twp BT Boyz 4-0 with goals from Cameron, Josh and 2 from Marshall. In the semi finals, the MDogs took on the Gaetano Knights and picked up their most dominant victory 5-0 with goals from Dan B., Josh, Michael P. and 2 from Marshall. Going into the finals against the Garnet Valley Blast, the MDogs turned to some great goalkeeping from Tommy and some superb defensive saves by everyone on the team to stay in the game. Despite several opportunities, Dan B. picked up the only goal. After 2 overtime periods of golden goal play, the score remained tied. In the first round of PKs, the Blast scored first and then Tommy made 4 great stops. The MDogs came up short until the final PK that Cameron put away to move on to the second round. In the second round of PKs, Tommy made 3 great saves. Josh and Rob blasted balls off of the keeper, but it was Tommy with the final PK goal that sealed the victory. Awesome game guys!

Highland United Players of the Match List!

Sometimes players play great games and sometimes the game isn't great but the effort is spectacular. Sometimes players play injured or sick or sometimes they get banged around on the field but keep coming back. Sometimes players take charge on the field when the team needs someone to rally around. And sometimes you have a player who just seems to be in the right place at the right time, all of the time.

We will list here examples of the tough Players of the Match on the Highland United team. These are the leaders by example. This list can change week to week, so be sure to check back.

Team Captains

The U17 Highland United will be lead by team captains Cameron, Matt K. and Michael.

The U16 Mountain Dogs are once again led by team captains Cameron, Matt K. and Michael, as they did during our successful U15 year. Brian was welcomed as the newest captain on Oct. 21st.

The U14 Mountain Dogs were led by team captains Cameron, Matt K. and Patrick D., along with assistants Ryan E. and Robert.

The U13 Mountain Dogs were led by team captains Sean Cogan, Patrick Donahue, Michael Panasiuk and Cameron Freeto. The 4 captains led the team to an undefeated fall season and then through a strong spring season where the team moved up an unheard of 3 divisions. Their strong play and dedication held the team together and definitely made us stronger. Thanks for a great year guys!

The U12 Mountain Dogs were led all year by outstanding team captains Matt Klinke and Pat Donahue. As the starting outside midfielders, Matt and Patrick took a vocal interest in the success of the team. Leading both by example and by direction, they played a big part in getting the team focused and on the right path. We were very lucky to have them. Their one year tour of duty is over, but they will stay on as assistants and possibly return as captains. Great job guys!
