Highlands Soccer Club: Divisions
Select Season:
Intramural (Pre-School)
Note: Highlands fields teams in the following age divisions. Other than the intramural program, age eligibility for each division is determined by the league. A player's age as of August 1st of a given year determines if she or he can play in a division for both the Fall and Spring seasons of that school year. For example, a child who turns 8 in September may play on an "Under-8" team for the Fall and Spring seasons.

Children may play on a second team in another division at no extra charge (other than parents' travel time), but may not play on multiple teams in the same age division.

Intramural Soccer for our youngest players. They have one basic skills practice per week with the MLS coach, aimed at introducing the game in a fun and noncompetitive way. These teams do not travel or play against other teams in the league, instead, they have weekly pick up games among themselves at Highlands, usually Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Enrollment is generally limited to pre-schoolers. Young Kindergarteners may participate but are encouraged to join an Under-6 team instead.
Team size: usually 4 on 4 intra-squad scrimmages.
Desired roster size: Everyone
Ball size: 3

Under 6 "White"
Under 6-year old players.
Players on the field: 5 (no goalie)
Desired roster size: 8 to 10
Ball size: 3
Generally Kindergarten players, with exceptional pre-schoolers or young 1st graders welcome. Teams are co-ed, with the M/F ratios as dictated by registrations. When more than one team is fielded, every effort is made to select rosters that are of the same skill levels, though at this age it may be difficult to choose and balance exactly.
Scores and League Standings are not officially kept, the object here is to maximize fun and have everyone get to kick the ball.

Under 8 - Girls
Players on the field: 9

Max Roster: 15 (at 16, we will split to two teams)

Under 8 "Purple"

Under 10 - Girls

Under 12 - Girls
Players on the field: 11
Desired roster size: about 15
Ball size: 5
Generally 5th and 6th grade girls playing together on one team, younger players looking for the experience are welcome, of course.    'Home' games at this age level are either played at JPK Fields or Grantswood School in Irondale.

Under 12 Boys Div II
Under 12 2nd division. Boys and/or co-ed teams.

Under 15 - Boys
Under 15 year old players, as of August 1st.
Players on the field: 11.

The age bracket is structured here (by the League) to mimic a Jr. High School team (grades 7 to 9) even though Highlands only goes through 8th grade.
