SMAC Champion 'Canes Come Back, beat Lackey 8-7
Junior Matt Beck's walk-off base hit drove in the winning run as Huntingtown rallied to beat Lackey 8-7.

Lackey had taken the lead 7-6 in the sixth. In the 'Canes half of the seventh, freshman Spencer Wolfe drew a walk and senior OF Jimmy Lubonski battled Lackey reliever Ryan Neely until a fat fastball showed up on the outer half of the plate which Lubonski smacked into right center, his second hit of the day, scoring the pinch runner for Wolfe and setting the stage for Matt Beck's timely walk-off, much to the frustration of the Lackey squad who had outplayed Huntingtown for most of the game [except, obviously, for the last part].

Dustin Herbert started for the 'Canes and went three innings before giving way to reliever Cory Page with the 'Canes trailing 5-2. While Page held off the Lackey bats, who would get eleven hits on the day, Huntingtown battled back to a 6-6 tie after five. During the two H'town rallies, seniors Johnny Mac and Casey Becraft had two RBI each while Kevin Kady had another. The two rallies set the stage for Wolfe, Lubonski and Beck to do their thing and gain the win for Page, number eighteen for Huntingtown.

The 'Canes finished the regular season as SMAC Champs with a record of 18-2. That's a great accomplishment and the first SMAC title for Huntingtown baseball. But now it's time to fry the big fish...playoff baseball begins Monday, May 14 at home at 4 PM [note the start time of any playoff games the week of May 14 will be 4 PM]. Huntingtown will play the winner of Duval vs. Great Mills which will be played Friday, May 11. Do we need to tell you to come out and be loud? Didn't think so....
