Halton Hills Hawks Girls Fastpitch Association: Hawk's History

Our Story...

In 1997 five individuals got together to bring competitive girls fastball back to Georgetown. They formed what was originally known as the Georgetown Gems Fastball Association with very limited funding but lots and lots of hard work and dedication. That year the Georgetown Gems, as they were known fielded three teams, Mite, Novice and Bantam. While wins were hard to come by in the early years spirit and improvement was never questioned.

From the beginning the organization stressed the basics of the game and ideal of “fun through learning”. The Georgetown Gems joined the Peel Halton Girls Softball Association back in 1997 and played against other centers such as Oakville, Brampton, Chinguacousy, Mississauga North and Clarkson. In 1998 the Georgetown Gems Fastball Association added a Midget team and saw small measures of success with the Mite and Novice teams advancing to the Provincials.

1999 was a breakthrough year for the Association. Firstly, the Association changed its name to the Halton Hills Girls Fastpitch Association to truly represent the communities it served. The teams were now known as the HAWKS and played determined ball throughout the organization. The Squirt team obtained Silver at Tier 1 at the Provincials and 6th at Eastern Canadians while the Bantams took Silver at Provincials in a 9 inning championship game loss.

From 2000 to present the Halton Hills Hawks Fastpitch Association has maintained anywhere from 4 to 6 teams in both the Peel Halton and Ontario Premier Women’s association. There have been many medals won in tournaments over the years and many friends made but the objective of fun has never been lost. One unique aspect of the organization is the togetherness that teams, coaches, players and parents feel. Each year since 1998 the organization has ran one of the largest girls fastball tournaments in Ontario attracting upwards of 57 teams. All teams pull together to make this a great tournament and a continued success. As well, teams bond together to attend tournaments together when they can, while the older girls help out with the younger teams.

It’s a great place to play and it’s great to be a HAWK!
