Canes Win 2008 Grrrls Elite Tournament in Memphis
first place trophy
The 2008 edition of the Grrls Elite Tournament in Memphis once again crowned  HFC '93 Shubert champions this year while playing in the U15 division. The Canes went 4-0 and scored 23 goals and allowed only one. At the awards ceremony the girls caught coach Kerry Shubert in a surprise rendition of Happy Birthday. What a great birthday present of a tournament championship and a surprise song. All games were played at the beautiful Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Canes were fortunate that the hard rain held off for all of their games but we did get to drive home in it.

Eight Straight Oklahoma Premier League Championships
The Canes won their 8th straight Oklahoma Premier Championship over the second weekend in December, 2007. With the Championship the Canes have never lost this award since they were eligible to enter the OPL in the Spring session of 2004. During this time their record has been 71 wins, 4 losses, and 5 ties. In those 71 wins, 59 have been shutouts. Another impressive statistic is the Canes have scored 279 goals and have only allowed 18 over the eight seasons. The Canes are looking to play up a year in the 2008 OPL season. Great job ladies.

Canes Welcome Three New Additions
Its that time of year again now that tryouts are complete to squelch the rumors and face the facts. The Canes welcome three new additions to the 2007-2008 roster. We welcome back Kate G. who was with us for the 2005-2006 season and last year played with the HFC '92 Cussen. Also, Helen, who last was with HFC '93 Beattie and Kristen who comes to us from Michigan. Our roster is complete now with a total of eighteen signed.

When we gain some new players we also are unfortunate to lose some. This year Rylan has left us to join HFC '93 Beattie. We wish you well and enjoyed having you with us this past year. Good luck in the future.

With these new additions we hope to continue our winning ways in our quest for another OPL Championship and to add to our State Cup Championships which would make it five in a row. Along with that we look forward to once again competing in the Sub-Regional League with the strong competition coming from Texas and Oklahoma during this Fall.

Canes Win Grrrls Elite Tournament in Memphis

2007 Grrrls Elite U14 Gold Champions

While attending the Grrrls Elite Tournament at the beautiful Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tennessee we did not see Elvis but we did see some wonderful soccer played by our HFC '93 Shubert ladies. In game one of our pool play we faced Brentwood Premier from Tennessee and got off to a good start with a 1-0 shutout. Game two put us against the runner-up in the State Cup in Louisiana, Cajun Rage from Lafayette, and once again another shutout was recorded. This time the final score was 2-0.

On Sunday it was on to the semi-finals to play the Atlanta Fire Premier. One more shutout score was added in another 1-0 victory. In the finals the Canes played the Mississippi State Cup Champions, Hattiesburg Storm, and yet one more shutout was earned. The final score ended in a 3-0 win and another championship is added to a long list for the talented ladies of HFC.

The Grrrls Elite tournament is platinum rated and offered some tough competition in our bracket. This event was extremely well run and was played on some very nice pitches. All involved with our team enjoyed our entry in this event and also had a nice time in the Memphis area.

Another Plano Labor Day Championship
For the second year in a row HFC '93 Shubert came back to Oklahoma with another Plano Labor Day Championship. The Hurricane ladies won two games and tied one in their pool and advanced to the quarterfinals in second place in their pool due to goal differentiation. The quarterfinal game was a shocker when FC Dallas scored two goals in the sixth minute but the Canes were only getting ready to put on a show of strength and dominence for the balance of the game. The Canes answered with three goals of their own and won the game by a score of 3-2 and advanced to the semis. The semis pitted the Canes with the Texas Longhorns White and our ladies held them scoreless while scoring two goals to put the game out of reach. On to the finals with Albion Hurricanes from Houston. Our Hurricane took early control and never let go to win by another 2-0 score. In the six games played the Canes won five, tied one and had twelve goals for and only three against and another PLD Championship to bring home to Oklahoma.

Tryouts Complete and Canes Welcome Three New Players
New animated
The weather finally cooperated this morning as the rain stopped and tryouts were on in full swing. After all was said and done the Canes welcomed three new additions to the roster. Cecilee and Rylan come to us from Blitz United Navy and Miriam joins us from TSC. These three will add a new dimension to the Canes already strong lineup. Unfortunately, when you obtain some new players you must lose some existing ones too. We did lose two of our originals in Kaitlen, who is concentrating on volleyball and Becca who is going on to other endeavors. We also lost two first year players who are leaving for other teams. Abby is going to Blitz United Red and Morgan is going to Blitz United Navy. We would like to wish these young ladies the best of luck for the coming years. It has been our pleasure getting to know each of you over the years.

Canes Make Semi-Finals In HFC Cup
The Canes made it to the semi-finals while playing up a year in the U14 division of the HFC Invitational Cup Tournament. Going 1-1-1 in pool play the Canes made the semi-finals to play NOKC United '92, the same team who had won the earlier pool play game on Saturday. Losing by the same score as the previous contest, 3-1, the Canes were not too unhappy as they were able to get out of the wind and cold. They now look forward to next weekend when the Oklahoma Premier League opens play. By the early forecast it looks like we might be in for the same weather pattern for next weekend. As for now it just feels good to be inside and out of the cold wind.

Canes Go 1-1-1 In Beat The Heat Tourney
The Canes came out of this last weekend with a win, loss and a tie while playing up a year in the U14 Gold division of the Beat The Heat tournament. The girls won this tournament last year while playing in their own age division so it was decided to try playing up a year. The first game the Canes came up against a tough Dallas area team, D'Feeters '92, and fought to a 2-2 tie. The second game the girls faced an even tougher Dallas area team, DFW Tejanos '92, and were outmatched in a 4-1 loss. The third pool game the Canes earned their 2-0 win over Midwest City Fusion '92. That win was not enough to advance to the semi-finals. The good news was that our sister team, HFC Shubert '92 also playing in the same division, won the tournament. The girls will use this tournament as a learning experience in preparation for the upcoming Plano Labor Day tournament that will take place in Plano, Texas over the Labor Day weekend. As always, you can click on the above headline and view the pictures from this weekend.

Canes Welcome Two New Players After Tryouts
Clapping
The Canes were fortunate to add two new players to our roster after tryouts were held on Monday morning at BASC. Morgan Anderson and Abby Hahn were asked to join the squad when tryouts were completed. Morgan comes to us from Tulsa Soccer Club. Abby, the twin sister of our Emily, was the goalkeeper from HFC '93 Beattie. We are looking forward to the new season and making our newcomers feel at home with their new team.

We did lose Lindsey Bach, who was one of our original girls, as she decided to go to HFC '93 Beattie. We wish her well with her new team. It is not like we won't see her almost as much as we did when she was on our team since we practice with the Beattie team. That is a good thing since we would miss her even more if we didn't get to see her and her family on a regular basis.

Canes Close Out Season With A Win
first place trophy
Wednesday nights game with HFC '93 Beattie proved to be a tough contest as they came out and played a hard fought game. The Canes were able to control the majority of the game but the Beattie defense arose time after time to thwart our attacks. We were fortunate enough to net one goal and relied on our own great defensive effort to secure the slim 1-0 victory.

This game closed out our Spring Oklahoma Premier League season with 8 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie and earned the Canes another first place league championship. Congratulations ladies. You have certainly earned this title. Our overall totals now stand at 94 wins, 9 losses and 14 ties.

Now it is time to complete preparations for the upcoming State Cup Tournament. The Canes will try to repeat as Oklahoma State Champions.

Sorry, there are no pictures as this game was played under the lights.

Canes Clinch League First Place With Two Wins On Mothers Day
first place trophy
The Canes gave their Mothers a very special present on Sunday with two OPL wins that assured them of first place in the league. The early game was a mid-afternoon contest with NOKC United. NOKC had been giving us fits with a win and tie in two previous contests. Today the Canes played with a purpose and scored a goal in each half to notch the win. A stiff defense kept NOKC at bay and eliminated the few scoring opportunities that arose. This game ended with the score of 2-0.

The latter game was played in Yukon with some ugly looking skies to the south. These storms moved away and the Canes provided the storm in this matchup. It took awhile before the Canes got down to business but once the first goal was scored it seemed like the net opened up for four additional goals. Yukon kept fighting and was able to score one in the middle of the second half. The final score ended at 5-1.

With these two wins the Canes assured themselves of a first place finish in the spring season of the Oklahoma Premier League. The Canes will close league action this coming Wednesday evening with a makeup game with our sister team, HFC '93 Beattie.

As always you can click on the above headline for some pictures of both games played on Mothers Day 2005.

Dallas Friendlies
Clapping
Last weekend was another great weekend of Hurricane soccer as our girls made the trip to Dallas for a round of friendlies. Our opponents consisted of the three top teams in the Dallas area and they were, not in any particular order other than our schedule in Dallas, the D'Feeters, Sting Royal, and the Texans. Each game provided the tough competition we were expecting from teams of this calibur. Since these games do not count in any type of standings I will only say that we won some and we tied some. That way we don't have to get into who won and who lost and who tied. I will just leave it at that. We got the experience we were looking for and we hope we provided the same for the Texas teams who will be starting their State Cup action next weekend. We do wish all three teams the best in that tournament.

Our club would also like to thank the D'Feeter's parents and players for hosting another great picnic social for our two clubs. We always look forward to this and hope that we can keep this tradition alive for years to come. Our parents and players always speak highly of the D'Feeters '93. One of our Dads said that the majority of his daughter's instant message screen names are from the D'Feeters. You don't see this kind of relationship between two very competitive clubs from two different states very often and that is why this is a special one that needs to continue.

The Canes had it going from the git-go as they scored their first goal within the first minute of the opening whistle in the first game. A tough host team, Brentwood Adidas Elite, proved to be great opponents and did not let down and battled hard in a losing effort as the score ended in the Canes favor 4-2. The next game was no cake walk either as another formidable foe, Lakota SC Blackhawks out of the Cincinnati area, fought strongly only to end up on the short end of another 4-2 outcome. Two games down and the Canes had two 4-2 wins. In Sunday mornings action the Canes had their third pool game with yet another great team, Team Chicago HotShots. The Canes got out to a 2-0 halftime lead and then the tide turned as Team Chicago came back to knot the score at 2-2. The Canes seemed a little flat in the second half but turned up the heat late in the second period. This resulted in a penalty kick for the Canes that was calmly placed in the lower left hand corner for the go ahead goal and eventual win. Canes win their pool and move on to the semi-finals at 11 AM

The semis came mid-day Sunday and we were going to face our hardest game of the weekend. Carmel United from Indiana came to play and it was evident that there was not going to be much scoring in this game. It proved to be true as the game ended with the Canes pulling out a 1-0 victory. After a couple hours of rest and refueling the Canes came back for the scheduled 2:40 PM final game only to find out it was delayed for another hour. At least we got to watch our sister team, HFC Shubert 92, win their championship game as it was played on the same pitch we were going to play on. Gwinnett SA Phoenix Red from the Atlanta area, advanced to the finals by playing Team Chicago HotShots to a 1-1 tie at the end of two extra periods and then outscoring the HotShots 4-2 in the shootout. The final game showed a little sloppy play for both teams as the girls were getting hot and tired. The Canes gathered a little extra towards the end and started putting it all together again and emerged victorious by a score of 2-0.

The short trip over to the awards area to collect some hardware was a sweet walk. The tournament staff knowing that we had some parents and players trying to catch their flights and others ready to start their nine hour drive home were gratious in getting the awards ceremony started quickly. A beautiful glass bowl was presented the Coach Shubert. Afterwards he passed out the blue ribbon medals to the girls and it was off to get a team picture before we all dispursed for our trips home.

Our thanks go out to the staff of the AWI and our opponents who gave us the competition that was exerted from all in teams in this tournament. Coach Shubert said we would be back next year and all the parents and players were glad to hear that announcement.

Canes Blank Blitz
hurricane overhead
In a Tuesday evening make-up game the Hurricane lived up to its name as they blew into this game with gust force and did not let up for the full 60 minutes. The first goal was scored within 40 seconds of the opening whistle and the goals just kept coming. Eight in all over the course of the game. It looks like the shooting practice from the previous night paid off well.

As the offense was doing its thing, the defense recorded another shutout as it stopped all Blitz attacks before they could materialize. The Blitz keepers were kept very busy and made some tremendous saves or the game could have been even more lopsided. It seemed like all the just misses from the earlier games of the season were finding the net in this game.

This was a much needed result as the Canes will travel to Nashville, Tennessee this weekend for the Adidas Womens Invitational Cup and will face some strong competition that they have not faced before. This tourney has invited many state champions and teams with high rankings from Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri and other regional states to participate. The Canes were fortunate enough to be included with this great group of assembled teams.

Canes Tie NOKC
ballorangehurricane
On Sunday afternoon NOKC came into BASC and was prepared to play. After two hard fought halves of play the score was knotted at zero. The only close scoring chance came in the first half when a NOKC forward blasted a shot from the eighteen and struck the center of the crossbar. Otherwise, it seemed like the Canes played the majority of the last half right in front of the NOKC goal but not get a good foot, knee, head or any other part of their bodies on the ball with enough power and accuracy to reach the twine.

The Canes get back into action on Tuesday evening with a make up game with Blitz Navy, who tied ESC 0-0 on Sunday afternoon. This game will be played at the Union Soccer Club Complex. Game time is 5:30 so all players need to be there as close to 4:45 as possible.

Canes Lose To ESC
hurricane ball
As always when these two skilled teams meet you can be assured that it will be a tough contest and todays game was no different. The Canes had the wind in the first half but it actually made the Canes passing game difficult as many were just too strong when aided by the gusty winds and time and again those passes rolled past the end lines before we could get a touch on them. Halftime score ended knotted at zero.

The second half found the Canes pushed up a little too far on an early ESC strong wind aided punt that ended in a breakaway and an ESC goal. Once that happened the Canes found themselves playing catch up with plenty of time to achieve a tie. ESC's defense did not falter and kept the Canes at bay for the final 15 minutes. With ESC'S win both teams came to each others home pitches and made the return turnpike trip a happy one by securing road wins.

The Canes get back into action Sunday at BASC 4 at 4 PM when NOKC rolls into town for yet another important game in league action.

Canes Win Fourth In A Row
whirlingball
In a late Thursday evening make up game the Canes made it four in row by beating Hurricane '93 Beattie by a score of 3-0. The first part of the game was played tight by both teams as it was the first game for our girls in three weeks. There was some rust in the old machine but it did not take long for the Canes to warm up and take control of the game. The Canes scored two goals fairly close together and added another one in the second stanza.

The Canes get back into action on Saturday at 11 AM in a tough tilt with ESC Black on the home fields at BASC. Sunday afternoon the NOKC United team comes into BASC for a 4 PM scheduled contest. Then on Tuesday night the Canes travel to the Blitz fields for another one of our many make-up games.

Canes Add Another Shutout By Beating ESC
hurricaneimage
It was a windy day in Edmond this Sunday afternoon but the wind did not affect the Canes as they scored the only goal of the game going against the 15-20 MPH wind. The goal was definitely a result of teamwork as Brandi carried the ball down the right sideline and then was able to pass it to Kate who in turn sent it across the field to Lil Becca who was wide open on the left. Lil Beck then took on the ESC keeper who had come out to cut the angle and Lil Beck used one of her moves to get around the keeper and net the ball from about 12 yards out. That goal was once again all the Canes neeeded to notch their third consecutive shutout in OPL league play.

In the second half the ESC long ball was not as effective going against the wind and very little play was in the Canes defensive end. We had some more close shots that grazed the goalposts and a couple of others that went just by the far post but fortunately those goals were not needed to secure the win. This was a game that was hard fought by two good teams and when these teams meet the result is always a great game.

Canes Score Another Shutout On Blitz
hurricane overhead
The Canes tenacious goal mouth pressure resulted in the only goal in this hard fought game. The goal was scored in the first half and that was all the Canes needed to gain another shutout in Oklahoma Premier League play. The Canes did have another good chance in the first half once again with good pressure in front of the Blitz goal but the shot sailed over the crossbar to the moans of the Hurricane faithful.

Our keepers were only able to touch the ball a few times as the defense snuffed any Blitz attack almost as soon as it started.

The Canes travel to Edmond tomorrow for another OPL game scheduled at 1 PM. We will be wearing all black for this game. Remember though to bring all of your jerseys for the just in case moment we have so often experienced.

Canes Win OPL Opener
Hurricane season
It was the first regular OPL game of the Spring season and Canes were not up to their midseason form but still blanked the Yukon Pride by a score of 1-0. It was a game of near misses with shots hitting the near post, the far post and the cross bar until Cori was able to net one from near the eighteen (be sure to check out the pictures of this game as there is a great picture that was taken just a Cori was about to strike this goal). The first half ended with the score of 1-0.

The second half was still played in the Canes offensive end despite a fairly strong wind aiding the Pride. The Pride was able to put a few runs together utilizing the strong punts of their keeper. These runs were snuffed out before any scoring chances could be finalized. The flu bug is trying to get the best of some of our players and it did take Rocket out for this game.

Canes Take Runner Up Position While Playing Up In U13
Clapping
In our first weekend of the 2005 season the Canes came away with the runner up position while playing up in U13 division of the 2005 HFC Invitational Cup. The girls did this while not winning one game. Sounds unusual, doesn't it? While they did not win a single game they also did not lose one until the final game. That game, with HFC '92 Mouske, ended in a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation time and then was scheduled for two 10 minute periods with the golden goal option. In the first extra period Mouske's team scored off a corner kick in around the 5 minute mark to win the championship.

All in all the Canes played some great soccer and held their own with their older and larger opponents in all 4 games. The competition level was greater than we could ever experience in the U12 division of this tournament. Therefore, what we took from these 4 games and the runner-up medals made this a memorable weekend.

Another achievement was bestowed on our girls and coaching staff at the awards ceremony directly following the game. Each year HFC gives a special award, The Kevin Leggett Memorial Sportsmanship Award, to the team who displays the love of the game the way it is supposed to be played. This year our team was the recipient of this honored award. Coach Shubert stated that this is the best award he has ever received and congratulated our girls for their efforts.

Christmas Party
We all had a wonderful time and not to mention some wonderful food at our recent Christmas Party hosted by the Loughlins. The Loughlins deserve a big HFC '93 Shubert thank you for letting all of us invade their home for this gala event. I think everyone, young and old, enjoyed this festive gathering. The girls couldn't wait to open the presents that were given to them by the secret drawer of their name. The girls each drew another players name and then were given a favorites list authored by their chosen player which helped in selecting the secret gift. Once the paper started flying there was stuffed animals, candy, tigger slippers, movie tickets, purses, USA womens soccer calendar, and other items too numerous to mention being hugged and shown to their teammates.

This event ranks right up there with the other fine Hurricane memories that will remain with us for a long time. Thank you Loughlins, players, coaches and parents for your cooperation in seeing this party was one for the memory books.

It took almost six months for it to happen but happen it did at our Christmas party. Brandi promised to wear a mini skirt if we beat the Dallas Sting Royal this year. The much motivated girls accomplished that feat in the Plano Labor Day tournament and have been waiting for this ever since. Make sure you look at this now because you might not see this until this girl gets married. Her older sister is getting married next September and Brandi has already stated that she is not wearing a dress for that event. As you can see by the look on her face she is not overly excited about this picture. She was a good sport though and did let her teammates dress her up for the party as I know she does not have anything like this in her wardrobe.

Canes Win Fall OPL Season Championship
first place trophy
While patiently waiting for the outcome of the league's final games and especially the game between EFC and Blitz the Canes were hoping for a chance of winning the league championship. Considering we had an early disappointing loss in the first game of the season and another unexpected tie later in the season the league championship was going to hinge on the outcome of the ESC-Blitz game. That game took place on Sunday and Blitz defeated ESC 2-0. By doing that the Canes moved back into first place and are league champions once again. Hooray, Hooray! Our thanks go out to a very up and coming Blitz team in aiding our cause.

Canes Take Runner Up Position In TSC Challenge U13 Division
Clapping
If we thought Saturday's field conditions were bad you should have seen Sundays. After another night of rain we woke up ready for our 8:45 AM game only to find out that all of the games had been postponed until 10 AM. Shortly after 10 we were ready to go get dirty in our third and final pool game. After our regular warm up routine the refs appeared and informed us that this game and all of the rest of the pool games would go directly to the shoot out format. This did not play to our advantage as we would have been better off playing even a shortened regular game. Anyway, the shoot out took place and after 5 shooters from each team the score was tied. In a pool game this should have ended here since there was a tie after the five original shooters but instead the shoot out progressed until the ninth shooter when we were unable to find the back of the net and once again tie the score. Nothing ventured and nothing lost as we later found out we had enough points from the first two games to win our pool and advance to the semi-finals.

In the semis we were up against another much bigger squad from NOKC United '92. We had played them much earlier this year and they manhandled us from the start whistle. That game ended in a 3-1 win for NOKC. We were informed that this game would have shortened halves of 20 minutes each. The Canes played as hard as they had all weekend long and managed to score a goal in the first half to put the pressure on the older girls. The first half ended with the score of 1-0 with the Canes on top. In the second half the fields were getting worse by the minute with standing water on some areas of the field. Our girls kept putting on the pressure but were unable to score another goal and never let down defensively at any time which resulted in another victory for the Canes. We were on to the finals in a tough U13 division.

The finals placed us with some familiar foes, PS United '92, which just happened to be the team we had beat 2-1 in our first pool game. The field was a bog of mud and now the halves were shortened to 15 minutes each. It was another hard fought game with few scoring chances coming from either squad and after two scoreless halves this contest went directly to shoot out. By this time I think we had had our fill of cold, wet, muddy conditions and a ball that probably weighed as much as a medicine ball. We just did not have leg power that the older girls exhibited and fell short in the shoot out.

A brief on field trophy ceremony took place and then it was a mad scramble to get in our warm mud covered cars for the short trip home. All in all the Canes demonstrated that they were more than capable in hanging with teams that were a year older and in some cases about two feet taller. Congratulations ladies, you had a wonderful tournament experience.

There were no pictures taken on Sunday as the weather conditions just would not allow our photographer to get his hands out of his pockets.

Call Your Mudder The Canes Win Two
Clapping
It was a day that you were bound to get dirty whether you were playing the game or not as  there was mud everywhere you stepped. The washing machines will be busy tonight. The best news is that the Canes were able to play well in the mud and that they were able to come out with two wins under their muddy belts.

The first game pitted, and I used that word wisely, the Canes against a much larger team from the Kansas City area, PS United '92. The Canes looked liked mud bugs as they came out and scored two early goals and took control of the game. The score remained the same until late in the second half when United scored with about two minutes left in the contest. The Canes retained their gamemanship and once again took control until the final whistle resulting in a 2-1 victory.

In game two the Canes took a little time to get their scoring going again but once it started it did not stop until the fifth goal was scored and their opponents, the Kansas ODP '92 team, were ready for the game to be over as they were not able to put together much of an offensive threat. The final score ended with another Canes victory at 5-0.

Sunday's action will start again at 8:45 in the morning with not much hopes of any drying of the fields. Polaris '92 from the Dallas area will be our opponent in a game which will decide the winner of our pool and who will advance to the semi-finals later in the afternoon.

Canes Scare Up A Couple Of Wins
Tazsoccer
Halloween weekend did not prove to be too scary for the Canes as they took on two opponents and came out with two more victories. Saturdays contest put the Canes up against Blitz United Navy on a very soggy United pitch. Blitz played a tough game and scored on a direct kick after a foul just outside of the box but that one goal did not prove to be enough as the Canes scored three to notch another victory.

It was Halloween on Sunday when the Canes came up against the Norman Fury and the only thing that proved to be scary was the weather. The rain subsided shortly before the 4PM game time and stayed away for the entire game. Once again the Fury put up a tough first half and kept the score at a meager 1-0 in the Canes favor. It was not long into the second stanza when the Canes opened up the scoring bag and added four more tallies to make the final 5-0. The Canes will end their fall regular season on November 13th when they face NOKC United in Oklahoma City.

It is a rare weekend indeed when you face the same team in a home and away on two consecutive weekend days. Saturday found the Canes in Jenks facing our local rivals Tulsa Soccer Club. Once again it was a story of two halves. The first half ended with Canes only up by a score of 2-0. The second half led to three more scores for the Canes and another half of fine defensive work to add yet another shutout in the record column.

Sundays game was even closer in the first half as it ended with neither team scoring. Once the second half started the Canes added a goal within the first minute. Another goal was added midway through the period to make the final score 2-0. The defense remained steadfast and recorded yet another shutout. TSC played a good game and kept the it close all the way to the final whistle.

Canes Win Two Over Weekend
Clapping
In Saturdays game we traveled to Norman to play NYSA Fury, a team we had not played before, and after a slow start with a half time score of 1-0 the girls picked it up in the second half. The second half once again proved to be the difference as the Canes added 7 more goals to make the final score 8-0.

Sundays game was our chance to make up for the earlier loss to ESC Black on their home fields. This time ESC traveled to our home for the second of our two meetings and this time we were ready for them. The girls did not wait for the second half in this contest and played hard early while scoring two first half goals. In the second half they added one more for an unsurmountable lead of 3-0. Our defense virtually shut the door all through the game as ESC was unable to mount any decent scoring chances. ESC always plays us tough and they did in this game too but the Canes were ready to take care of business.

Canes Win One & Lose One In Opening Weekend

Saturdays OPL season opener was a eye opener when the Canes lost to ESC Black by a score of 1-0. The Canes came out flat and stayed that way for most of the game. The Canes had one open shot in the first half and one more in the second half but neither were on frame. The ESC goal came with about 5 minutes left in the second half when a miscommunication with our players and also the referee led to an easy goal which proved to be the game winner.

In Sundays game with NOKC the girls came out with a purpose and scored within the first two minutes of the game. They did not stop there as Bekah Stewart added two more first half goals to make the half time score 3-0. Bekah scored the hat trick by finishing nice crosses within the box. Emily added a second half goal to close out the scoring making the final score 4-0. The Canes will resume action next weekend with games with Blitz United Navy at home on Saturday and then traveling to OKC to face the NOKC United on Sunday.

The HFC '93 girls coached by Kerry Shubert finished their 2003-2004 inaugural soccer season with a State Championship title. This culminated at BASC with a 3-0 win over NOKC United in the finals. The packed sidelines went wild as the final whistle signified the Championship title. In a tournament recap you will find that the Canes won five games, all by shutouts. They scored 16 goals while allowing none. In a season recap the Canes stacked up 60 victories while suffering 6 losses and 2 ties. In the scoring category the girls scored 272 goals and allowed only 30. Out of the 68 games played 47 resulted in shutouts. The Canes had a great tournament season as well with championships in the HFC Soccerfest '03, Busch Challenge Cup '03, TSC Challenge Cup '03, The Thunder Friendship Cup '04 and The Oklahoma State Open '04. They were a finalist while playing up in the U12 division of the HFC Invitational Cup '04.    Canes Reach Semis In State Tourney

HFC '93 got off to a rather odd start in the first weekend of the State Tournament but rallied to end up first in their pool and will advance to the semi-finals next weekend. In a stunner the Tulsa Nationals fought the Canes to a 0-0 tie. This game created quite a stir over the BASC complex as our fans were asked over and over as to what happened. The Nationals came out to play that day and fought off numerous Hurricane scoring chances.

The scoring flood gates opened in the second game when our ladies took on the Tulsa Tornado. After a rather close first half the scoring started and finally ended at 9-0. It was a nice change from that first game when I swear there was a invisible barrier attached to the frame.

Our third game had ESC Black as our opponent. In our two season games they had given us tough times with both games being decided by a single goal. Today was our day with a final score of 3-0 and resulting in first place in pool play and a trip to the semis where we will face TSC next Saturday at BASC.

Canes Reach Semis In Dallas Spring Classic
Bike kick
The Canes met some great teams in the Dallas Spring Classic and made it to the semis. We met some teams we had played before such as FC Dallas Gold and Dallas Sting White. We were able to get by both of them in pool play. Also in pool play we came up against a tough team from South Texas, CC United Eagles, and fought hard for a 1-0 win. In the quarterfinals we met a California team, Rancho Santa Fe Attack, and were able to advance to the semis with a 3-1 victory. The semis brought on a much awaited contest between the Canes and yet another team we have never faced, the Dallas Sting Royale. In very cold and windy conditions the Sting prevailed utilizing their second half wind advantage and scoring two goals. The Canes could never come up with an attack against the wind and succombed by the score of 2-0.

Hurricane Wins TSC Challenge Cup
In a wild weather weekend with Saturdays temperature in the 70's and Sundays hovering around the freezing mark the Hurricane stormed through the competition resulting in another tournament championship. The Canes beat some quality competition like the Dallas Sting White, NOKC United, and SWU Comets from Kansas to win their pool. In the semis the Canes came up against the ESC Black and fought them to a score of 3-0. The finals pitted the Canes with Busch Soccer Club from Kansas City. It was another tough game with the Canes fighting both the Busch club and the weather. The final score ended with the Hurricane coming out on top by a score of 2-0. After a very brief awards ceremony everyone headed for the warmth of their cars with their trophies in hand and smiles on their cold faces.

Hurricane On Top Of The Arch
I was going through all the pictures I took this weekend and found this one that I had not seen before. I just had to put it on the site. I can't figure out which one of our girls was brave enough to try this stunt. Any ideas?

Hurricane Wins Busch Challenge
first place trophy
HFC '93 went to St. Louis with one thing on their minds and that was to bring home some hardware. After four games and an undefeated record that is just what they did. The first game pitted the Canes against Carmel United, a good team from the Indianapolis area. The Canes got out in front and never looked back even after the Carmel team snuck in a second half goal to make the final score 4-1. From that point there were no more scores from any of our opponents. Next up was the Woodchips from the St. Louis area. They put up a good fight for a while but ended up losing 4-0. One more win and we would move on to the finals. The host team, Busch Soccer Club-Mantia, proved to be an excellent opponent and put up a valiant effort only to lose on a great second half goal in the 50th minute. After the goal it was time to play defense to secure our place in the finals with a 1-0 victory.

Kansas City Soccer Club Alliance was our opponent in the finals that was played at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie but the second half led to two Hurricane goals within a five minute period of each other to seal the Championship. A short awards ceremony with an equally short picture session was held and then it was a six hour drive back to Tulsa. I am sure there were some droopy eyes in our school systems today but I know there were some smiling faces there too.

This weekends pictures have also been uploaded to the albums section. Check them out.

Hurricane Reaches Beat The Heat Semi-Finals
Three games on Saturday and three wins by Saturday evening. Our first game was at 10 AM against a fine FC Dallas team. We came out on top by a score of 4-0. At 2:30 PM we faced a very good D'Feeters team, also from Dallas. The girls were using their "A" game for this one and it resulted in a 3-0 win. Our last game of the day was at 8:30 PM under the lights when we were paired against the Highlanders from Tulsa. I am not totally sure of the score on this one but I think it ended up with us scoring in the double digits while recording our third straight shutout. With this win we won our pool and the right to go to the semi-final game at 11:30 AM Sunday.

The Dallas Texans Red were worthy opponents and we were not quite "A" game ready for this one. We came out on the short end in a 2-0 loss. We have to learn from our losses and our victories and put to use what we have learned the next time we take the pitch.

Congratulations ladies on another fine tournament.

Pictures from Saturdays action are now in the album section.

Hurricane Soccerfest Champions
Our first tournament and we earned our first Championship! In four games we outscored our opponents 35-3. Please see the standings section on the left of the screen for each game's score. Our offense was awesome and our defense was extremely stingy during the two day tourney.

On top of this we were able to learn more about our positions and Coach Shubert's strategy. With this education we will likely become stronger day by day. We have now set our sites on the Plano Labor Day tournament.

Congratulations Hurricane on your first Championship.

Pictures from both days have now been posted in the album section.
