Heavy Metal Softball -- A Diamond Warrior Tradition

Heavy Metal Softball's team members generally sponsor themselves, both in leagues and tournaments, thus providing an opportunity to give our selected league or tournament MVP any award that the team may achieve. Our team philosophy is that any player, if so selected by either ballot or offensive points, should garner the given team award (trophy and/or MVP plaque) because no one player sponsors the entire team. Thus, in sharing the cost of our team's activities, any player is eligible to acquire the spoils of our endeavors, so to speak. In tournaments, offensive points will determine a tournament MVP; in leagues, the selection will be determined by ballot, with a first, second, and third choice given by each team member. A player can only be deemed ineligible for MVP if one of three requirements is not met: (1) A player's ballot is not received by a date specified by the manager (league only); (2) A minimum of half the games was not played (league/tournament); and (3) The agreed-upon league/tournament participation fee was not paid. These simple, yet firm, rules promote participation in this process and a fairer, more accurate assessment of the eventual MVP.

For a more detailed explanation of how our MVP ballot system works, please go to the "News Archives" section of our website and click on to read the articles entitled "Heavy Metal Season MVP -- Points or Votes?" and "Breakdown of MVP Ballot Results for Visalia's Fall 2003 Division 'D' League" -- these explain where we began anew in instituting the MVP ballot process from many seasons ago. Or go to the "Documents" section and download the "Heavy Metal Softball's Roots, Rules, and Rituals" file. In doing one of these inquiries, you will get a feel for how the process works in action.
